바스켓기법(Basketry)을 응용한 복식디자인 연구

Abstract

현대의 복식디자이너들은 자유로운 표현 방식에 관심을 갖고 새로운 가능성을 끊임없이 시도하고 있다. 새로운 기술의 폭넓은 도입과 실험은 시각적인 체험을 더욱 확장시키고 있다. 바스켓 공예(basketry)는 인간 생존에 필요한 도구를 만드는 생산기술로 의·식·주 전반에 걸쳐 광범위하게 사용되어온 실용적이고 보편화된 기법이었다. 섬유예술이 전통적인 구조방법을 탈피하여 1960년대 이르러 일대 변환기를 맞이하게 되었을 때 섬유구조를 형성하는 요소에도 많은 변화를 표현하고자 하는 소재로서 가느다란 끈이나 의도적으로 좁은 폭으로 짜여진 직물을 선택하거나 제작하여 작품에 응용함으로써 독특한 분위기를 창출하였다. 예술가들은 이러한 소재를 돋보이게 해줄 많은 기법들을 개발하였다. 바스켓기법은 특별한 도구 없이 자유롭게 표현할 수 있고 3차원적 작업에 잘 적응할 수 있기 때문에 현대 바스켓 공예는 재료의 한계성에 도전하여 자연 식물의 넝쿨이나 나무껍질 및 줄기, 짐승의 가죽을 연결하여 사용한 초기의 원시적인 형태를 탈피하고, 플라스틱, 종이, 금속, p.p.u와 같은 비닐소개, 복합적인 형태의 새로운 소재의 수용으로 무한한 실험의 가능성을 보여준다. 이에 본 연구는 형태, 기법, 재료와 형식에 제약을 받지 않는 바스켓(basket)기법을 복식에 도입하여 예술성 표현에 중점을 둔 미술의상을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구는 바스켓기법의 무한한 개발가능성을 인식하고 인체의 자연스러운 곡선과 조화되는 다양한 형태를 구성하여 독특하고 새로운 현대복식의 예술적 표현성을 심화시키고, 나아가 현대복식의 디자인 창출의 한 방법으로서 확대시켜 나가는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 내용 및 이론적 배경은 선사시대부터 인간의 모든 생활영역을 차지했던 바스켓기법의 기원과 배경, 그 기법의 종류를 알아보고, 그 이래로 인간 생활 곳곳에 전반적인 바스켓기법을 자세히 살펴보았으며 미술 의상에 있어 수공예적 기법을 도입한 실례를 분석하였다. 이를 토대로 하여 본 연구는 바스켓기법을 응용, 변화시켜 인체의 특성에 조화시켜 표현하는데 중점을 두어 총 8점의 작품을 제작하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 바스켓기법을 실제 바디 위에 자유롭게 구사하여 인체선과 조화된 입체적인 새로운 형태의 의상을 구성할 수 있었다. 둘째, 바스켓기법은 하나의 구조물을 이루거나 각 개체로 독립시키는데 제한을 받지 않는 구성방식으로 인하여 평면, 부조, 입체 및 공간적인 표현이 가능하며 따라서 의상에 있어서 다양한 조형적인 미를 표출시킬 수 있는 기법임을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 수공예적인 기법과 다양한 재료를 의상디자인에 도입함으로써 독특한 재질적 특성을 표출시킬 수 있었다. 넷째, 바스켓기법을 발전시키고 또한 독특하고 유연한 표면 구조를 지닌 실용적 재료를 개발한다면 다양한 표면효과와 새로운 형태미를 지닌 현대 의상디자인 개발이 가능함을 확인할 수 있었다. ; Modern Designers are trying new possibilities constantly, with a social interest in the free express system. The broad adoption and experementing of new materials and techniques are expanding more and more the visual experience. Basketry is a productive technique that is making necessary tools for human survival and it is a practical and universal technique ranging from food to clothing, shelter. In 1960, textile art reached a turning point, escaping from traditional structure methods. Artists Developed many techniques that could enhance these materials. The basket technique could be expressed variously and freely without a special too, and could be adapted. Therefore, modern basketry shows limitless experimental possibility by acceptance of new materials of composite style, the vinyl materials such as plastic, paper, metal and p.p.u, the escaping from early primitive styles which used wood bine of natural plants, bark and stem of trees, or animal skins. Here upon, this research shows that the basket technique does not restict the from of type, technique, and materials. The purpose of this research is to find that limitless developing possibility through the making of various styles that the artistic expression of particular and new modern art clothing. In addition is the goal of expanding the ways to design modern clothing s creation. The content and theoretical background of this research examined the orgin and background techniques which have been used in all living areas of human beings from the prehistoric age. It also examined the general basket technique as it has appeared here and there in everyday life, and analyzed those examples which are adopted by hand working techniques in modern clothing. Based on this research I manufactured all 8pieces of work focusing on expressing the human body by the applying and changing of the basket technique. The result of this research are as follows. 1. By applying the basket technique to the actual body freely, it could formated to the clothes of three-dimentional new styles which match the body line. 2. Because of the composite system which does not restrict a structure or separate each indivisual, the basket technique can express the surface, relief, cubic, and spatial features. 3. By applying hand artificial, technique and various materials into clothing design, particular quality could be expressed. 4. It confirmed that in case of developing the basket technique, particular and the materials of flexible surface structure, it is possible to develop the practical and characteristic modern clothing design.
