윤동주 시의 기호론적 연구 : 이항대립에 있어서의 매개 기능을 중심으로

Abstract

尹東柱 詩에 대한 지금까지의 연구는 다음과 같은 세가지 방향으로 요약될 수 있다. 첫째, 그의 詩는 死後에 遺稿集으로 발행되어 각광을 받기 시작하였으므로 作品 外的인 傳記的 生涯가 作品 內的인 세계보다 더욱 강조되어 그의 詩는 抵抗詩로 평가되었다. 둘째, 일제 식민지 정책으로 인한 文學史에 암흑기에 한국어로 작품을 남긴 소수의 작품 중의 하나이므로 문학사적 위치에서 중요하게 평가되었다. 셋째, 그는 독실한 기독교 신자이며 그의 시는 시대적 어둠에 대응하는 기독교적 理念에 입각해 쓰여진 기독교 문학으로 파악되었다. 이렇듯 傳記的·文學史的·精神史的 연구에 편중되어 왔으나 본 연구에서는 지금까지 소홀히 다루었거나 方法論的 결함에 의해 문학 외적 요소로 다루어졌던 尹東柱 詩作品의 본질적 연구를 위해서 記號論的 讀解를 통해 새로운 시각에서 다루어 보았다. 또한 기독교적 素材나 理念이 尹東柱 詩에서 기독교적 原型(Archetype)상징 체계와 기독교적 記號 體系로서 어떻게 詩的 言述(Poetic Discourse)로 드러나고 있는가에 대해서 텍스트 분석을 통해 알아보았다. 문학 작품은 한 시인의 기호가 탄생되는 곳이며, 그 탄생된 기호가 어떻게 生成, 破懷, 變容되는 가를 보여주는 하나의 텍스트이다. 본 연구에서는 텍스트를 자체의 기호체계에 의해 이루어지는 에믹(Emic)次元의 구조로서 다루었다. 에틱(Etic)차원과는 달리 에믹(Emic)차원의 구조적 관계는 單元的 관계가 아니라, 二項 對立的 관계이거나 多元的 관계라는 입장에 근거를 두고 尹東柱 詩의 意味 構造를 고찰했다. 記號論的 方法論의 실제적용에 있어서, 尹東柱 詩에서 두드러지게 나타나는 二項 對立(binary opposition)과 그 이항 대립 속에서 작용하는 媒介項(mediantion)의 기능을 구체적으로 분석하였다. 특히 이항대립의 고정적인 兩項을 媒介해 주는 매개항의 기능에 집중적인 관심을 기울여 그 매개 기능의 성격 규명에 노력하였다. 이 때의 兩項의 意味는 사물적 의미로서가 아니라 抽象 體系로서의 의미이며, 매개항 또한 추상 체계의 中間項으로 보았다. 이러한 연구방법에 기초를 두고 Ⅱ章에서는 尹東柱의 대표적인 作品인〈序詩〉를 분석함으로써 그의 詩的 言述을 구성하고 있는 기호들의 체계와 그 기능을 매개항을 중심으로 살폈고, Ⅲ章에서는 Ⅱ章에서의 〈序詩〉분석을 통해 抽出된 時間的, 空間的, 感覺·感情·價値의 매개적 기호 체계를 그의 전체 시들로 확장시켜 作品 內에서 하나의 체계로서 확립되고 있는 매개항과 그 變異態의 기능을 기호론적으로 설명해 보고자 하였다. Ⅳ章에서는 Ⅲ章에서 抽出된 세가지 유형을 移行 ; 兩極의 轉換, 差異-隔合, 逆轉-記號의 解體로 나누어 매개항의 기능과 그 變換을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 尹東柱의 詩에서는 시적 언술이 否定(negative)-媒介(mediate)-肯定(positive)의 기호 체계로 이루어져 있으며, 强化, 媛化·顚倒 등의 매개 기능의 技法들이 곧 尹東柱의 詩法이고, 아울러 그의 詩學을 형성해 주는 중요한 요소라는 점을 알 수 있었다. ; Many studies up till now of Yoon Tong- Choo’s works can be summarized in three ways as follows: First, being postumously published to get a wide attention, his poems have been evaluated as of resistance poems, emphasized more on the author’s biographical and extratextual life than on the inner-textual world of his creative works. Second. Being one of the very few works in Korea produced in the literary dark age under the annihilating forces of Japanese colonial reign, his poems have been appreciated primarily in their literary historical aspects. Third, the poet being a pious Christian, his poems have been understood firstly as a form of Christian literature based on its ideology against the darkness of his day. Different from the biographically, literary historically and ideologically biased studies, this thesis tries to approach Yoon Tong-Choo’s poems which have been overlooked or dealt with the non-literary factors out of some methodological errors in a new perspective of the semiotic reading for the genuine understanding of their nature. For this, concrete textual analysis makes it possible to see the poetic discourse of how the Christian material or ideology in Yoon’s poems reveals itself as Christian archetypal symbolic and semiotic systems. That is, regarding a literary work as a place where a poet’s signs are born, and also as a text which shows how these signs are generated, destroyed , or transformed, this study deals with it as having an ‘emic’ level of structure which consists of its own sign systems. Thus, the semantic structure of his poems is examined from the standpoint that the structural relations of the ‘emic’ level are not singular, but binary oppositive or pluarlistic ones. A practical semiotic methodology is applied here for analyzing the conspicuous binary oppositions in his poems, and their functional operations of mediations. Special emphasis is put on the functions of mediators to explicate their characteristics. The meaning of opposite items in this case is not of things but of abstract systems, mediator considered also as an intermediary in the abstract system. Based on this research method, chapter Ⅱ analyzies his masterpiece ‘Prelude’（or ‘Prelusive poem’）to trace out the system and function of signs in his poetic discourse. It is followed by Chapter Ⅲ to give a semiotic explanation of mediation establishing itself as a system in a work and of functions of its variants, extending to all of his poems the temporal, spatial, and value-, sense-, and emotion-related mediate sign systems extracted above. And Chapter Ⅳ examines three types of mediatory function and their variations; transference-transformation, differentiation-fusion, and reversion-deconstruction. The poetic discourse in Yoon’s poems, therefore, consists of negative-mediate-positive sign systems, and the techniques of mediatory functions such as intensification, relaxation, inversion, and the like constitute his very prosody and his vital poetic elements as well.
