사물에 도입된 인간존재의 허무주의적 표현

Abstract

현재를 살아가는 인간에게 ‘존재한다’는 것은 生을 의미한다. 인간의 생은 유한하며 삶의 여정의 끝은 죽음이라는 공통된 종착점을 갖게 된다. 인간에게 죽음이라는 명제는 무의식 속에 불안과 고독을 동반하며 자신의 생에 대한 애착과 허무의 이중적 구조를 갖게 한다. 인간존재의 유한함을 허무주의적 관점에서 접근해보고 生의 유한성에 근거하여 쑥뜸의 연소를 통해 허무함을 시각화 해 보고자 한다. 본 연구는 사물에 도입된 인간존재의 형상이 타들어가는 과정을 통해 허무감을 느낄 수 있도록 표현하는데 그 목적을 두고 있다. 본 연구의 내용은 실존적 허무주의를 통해 철학적 입장과 과정미술에 대하여 살펴보았다. 실존적 허무주의의 철학적 입장과 ‘과정’의 의미를 부각시켜 작업한 작가의 작업을 예로 들어 보았다. 표현 내용 및 방법은 본 연구자의 개인적인 동일시의 경험을 토대로 사물을 선택하게 된 배경과 실제 공간에서 쑥뜸을 연소시키는 과정에 대해 서술하였다. 쑥뜸(구관)을 가는철선에 끼우거나 뜸쑥을 형의 틀에 눌러 캐스팅하거나 접착하는 방식으로 인간형상을 표현하여 조각된 사물에 대입시켰다. 쑥뜸은 본래의 물질인 쑥이 타면서 연소되지만 냄새와 연기, 그리고 재로 존재의 흔적을 남기게 된다. 작품 분석에서는 이러한 내용을 바탕으로 표현한 작품 7점을 주관적인 경험과 선택 배경, 그리고 작업 과정을 토대로 한 표현 내용 및 방법에 근거하여 분석하였다. 본 연구는 사물에 유한적인 인간존재를 대입시켜 표현하는데 중점을 두고, 인간존재의 허무함을 쑥뜸의 연소로 나타낸다. 인간존재의 유한성을 가시적으로 보여주기 위해 직접 연소하는 과정을 보여주었다. 나무로 일상의 사물(집, 문, 의자, 액자, 화병, 모래시계, 향대)을 조각하고, 조각된 사물에 인간존재을 쑥뜸으로 형상화하여 도입시킨다. 그리고 쑥뜸을 실제공간에서 연소시킨다. 그 과정에서 연기와 냄새 그리고 재가 발생하며, 현재의 시간 속에 진행되는 과정과 흔적으로 그 존재를 느낄 수 있도록 하였다. 본 연구자는 쑥뜸을 이용하여 인간존재를 형상화하고 연소하는 과정을 통해 인간존재의 유한성과 허무함을 느끼게 되기를 기대한다.;To our mankind living at present, 'being' means life. Human life is limited, and the end of our life is equal to death or our common destination of life. To men, the theme 'death' is accompanied unconsciously by fear and loneliness, being dually structured of attachment to life and nihilism. The purpose of this study was to approach the finiteness of human existences from the perspective of nihilism and, based on the finite life, visualize the nihilism by burning the moxa. Specifically, this study was aimed at expressing the nihilism of human existences with their burning forms mirrored in the objects. To this end, the researcher reviewed philosophical aspects and process fine art in reference to the existential nihilism, and thereby, examined researcher's work as an example by highlighting its philosophical aspects and implications of its 'process'. In this context, based on researcher's personal experience of being identified, the researcher described the background for selection of the object as well as the process whereby moxa was burnt in the real space. To this end, moxa was inserted into thin iron wires or pressed into a frame to be cast or adhered to express human forms to be substituted into the object. Moxa is burnt when its material mugwort is burnt down, but it will leave its smell, smoke and ashes as its traces. Based on such conceptions, the researcher produced 7 works and thereby, analyzed them in terms of subjective experiences, background of selection and working processes, focusing on their expressions and their methods. This study focused on the expressions of finite human existences substituted into the object to feature vanity of human existences as nihilism mirrored in the burning moxa. In order to show the finite human existences visibly, the researcher showed the process of being burnt. Wood was sculptured into ordinary objects (house, door, chair, frame, vase, sand watch and incense stand) and then, the human existences were formed by means of moxa onto the sculptured objects. Then, moxa was burnt in the real space. In this process, smoke, smell and ashes were generated to urge us to feel its existence as a progressive process and trace. Lastly, it is hoped that this study has well signified infinite and ephemeral human existence by forming it with a moxa and burning the moxa.
