꽃 형상을 통한 자아발견의 자수표현

Abstract

존재하는 것들, 특히 자연은 그 대부분이 대칭을 이루기 위해 스스로 노력하고, 조직 체계를 이루려고 한다. 인간은 이러한 자연의 속성과 본질을 파악하기 위해 끊임없이 노력하고, 이와 같이 자연에 대한 인간의 관심은 예술의 아름다움을 낳게 하는 모태가 된다. 예술로 표현되는 무한한 자연의 소재 속에서 꽃은 상징적으로 수많은 의미를 갖게 된다. 이렇게 함축성을 내포하는 다양한 상징성을 지닌 꽃은 무궁한 자연의 소재 속에서도 특히 예술가들에 의해 끊임없는 연구대상이 되었다. 꽃을 통한 예술은 꽃의 모방 그 자체에 있는 것이 아니라, 예술가의 내적 심상을 통한 이미지의 창조 혹은 변형에 의해서 이루어진다. 그렇기 때문에 각자가 표현하고자하는 꽃의 의미와 형상이 다르고, 꽃에서 보는 특징적인 부분에도 내외적으로 차이가 있으므로 꽃을 통한 독창적인 작품이 끊임없이 연구, 창조되는 것이다. 식물학에서의 꽃은 다양성을 창조하고, 식물학의 풍부한 연구를 하게 만드는 가장 기본이며, 생물학적으로는 양성을 모두 포함하는 기관을 갖춘 식물이다. 이러한 과학적 사실은 그 동안 여성의 상징적 의미로 많이 다루어졌던 꽃에 대한 인식을 새롭게 하면서 본 연구자에게 예술적 소재로서의 가치를 알게 하였다. 본 연구자는 꽃이 보여주는 외적인 형태뿐 아니라, 위에서 언급한 식물학에서의 꽃의 속성과 의미에서도 예술적 가치를 발견하였다. 또한 혼돈과 변화를 겪는 시점에 있는 본인의 자아를 발견하고 이 두 상황의 결합을 통해 작품을 제작하였다. 하나의 형체를 이루기 위한 각 부분의 꽃의 속성들을 분석․탐구하여 각 조직의 역할과 서로간의 필연적 관계를 파악하고, 조형적 특징을 연구하였다. 그리고 심리적으로 복잡한 본인의 자아 정체성을 발견하는 과정에서, 이 혼돈 속의 자아와 꽃의 필연적인 조직적 속성이 유사성을 띄게 된다는 것을 지각했다. 그리하여 본인의 자아를 발견하는 과정을 꽃이라는 사물을 통해서 시지각적으로 형상화하여 조형작품으로 표현하였다. 꽃 형상을 통한 본인의 자아발견을 조형적 자수 표현으로 작품을 제작하고, 분석한 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 꽃의 식물학적 특성과 상징적 의미의 연구를 통해 보다 창조적인 예술적 가치를 발견할 수 있었다. 또한 꽃에 대한 이해를 통해 보다 시지각적으로 확대된 범위의 조형적 특징을 탐구하고 이를 본인의 관점에서 형상화시켜 조형작품으로 표현하는데 있어 효과적인 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 둘째, 꽃의 형상을 유기적으로 연결된 조직형태로 표현하기 위해 기하학적 형태로 조각을 나누는 모자이크 방식으로 그 각각의 조각을 표현하면서 혼돈된 자아 발견과의 유사성을 적극 표현하여 독창적인 꽃의 형상을 나타낼 수 있었다. 셋째, 각 작품의 조형적 차별성을 극대화하기 위하여 기존 작품의 프레임(Frame)의 틀을 탈피한 다양한 방법으로 설치하였다. 평범할 수 있는 꽃이라는 소재를 모자이크라는 통일된 표현 방식을 통해 표현한 작업을 이중 프레임을 통해 거는 설치방법, 여러 피스의 작품을 다양한 각도를 주어 겹쳐지게 하여 중첩적인 느낌이 나게 거는 설치방법, 여러 피스를 유기적으로 걸어주는 설치방법 등으로 나타내었다. 이와 같이 여러 표현방법에 따라 각기 다른 프레임방식을 통해 새로운 조형적 미를 창출하였다. 넷째, 다양한 이론적 배경을 연구하여 도출한 꽃의 형상을 통해서 자아의 정체성을 발견하고 내면의 혼돈을 파악하여 심리적으로 보다 성숙할 수 있게 되었다. 이를 통해 자기 발전의 기회를 삼을 수 있었고, 또한 새로운 작품으로 창조할 수 있는 재창조의 능력을 얻을 수 있었다. 본 연구는 혼돈 상태의 자아를 발견하여 이를 꽃의 형상을 통해 예술작품으로 승화시키는 과정이다. 그리하여 본 연구를 바탕으로 꽃을 작업하는 예술가의 한 사람으로서 큰 의미를 갖고 꽃의 새로운 조형적 연구를 할 수 있게 되었다.;Most of the beings, especially in nature, seek symmetry in itself and in the organization. Human beings have been trying to understand the essence of the nature harmonized in symmetry, and this interest in the nature gave birth to many esthetic beauties. Flower, among all the subjects found in the nature, has many symbolic meaning, and has been frequent object of research of all times especially by artist for this richness in symbolic meaning. Artworks using flowers are not based on the imitation of flowers in itself. Flower is a medium to create or transform images of the artist's inner world. That is why each artist creates different meanings and different forms out of flowers, finding different characteristics in forms and meanings. In the end, many works inspired by flowers are being made, but each of them is unique. In botanical point of view, flower finds its meaning in giving birth diversity; in biology, it is a plant that has organs including both sexes. These facts renewed my perception on traditional meaning of flower as symbol of femininity, making me realize its value as artistic object. That is how I discovered artistic value in flower not only in its forms, but also in role and meaning it detains in botanical point. I also found my identity going through a chaotic stage of changes projected on it, and these two states are combined in my work. I analyzed researched characteristics of each parts that makes up a form which is the flower, figured out their bonds, and studied their formative characteristics. At the same time, while discovering my identity in psychological complexity, I perceived the similarity between the organic and logical nature of flower and myself in chaos. Through my work on self identity which is represented in embroidery, I had such conclusions: First, I discovered more creative value through my study of botanical characteristic and symbolic meaning of flower. Study of flower also allowed me to expand my perception on characteristics of forms and to obtain effective result in giving them a shape in my own language. Second, in order to describe flower's form as organically linked systems, I showed each part as geometric pieces of mosaic, which allowed me to demonstrate its similarity with search for one's lost identity and to create unique form of flower. Third, I set up each work in various ways breaking traditional frames for its maximal differentiation in forms. A common object which is flower is consistently represented in mosaic, but displayed in various ways such as dual frames, overlap in different angles and hanging many pieces in orders. Likewise new esthetic forms are created through different ways of expression. Fourth, I could discover my identity, understand inner conflict, and finally approach inner maturity from the new form of flower that has been found from various theories. I had the opportunity to improve myself and to create it into something new. This study is the process of sublimating one's identity into a work of art using flower as the medium, and I could carry out new formative study as one of the artists working inspired by flower.
