바느질을 통한 기억 속 인물표현

Abstract

사람은 살아가면서 무수한 만남들을 가진다. 그리고 만남을 통해 기억된 사람들은 그것을 기억한 사람과 공유하는 지점이 있다. 그들과 공유한 시간과 공간, 에너지가 만들어내는 이야기는 기억으로 남아서 나의 작품에 중요한 모티브가 된다. 나는 이 작업에서 기억을 통해 사람들의 이미지를 표현하였다. 이는 만남의 기억을 재현함으로서 다시 그 사람과 만나는 일이다. 나는 내가 만난 사람들의 기억을 바느질로 만들었다. 대상은 나와 인연이 있는 사람들 중에서 선택하였는데, 나의 성장기를 함께한 가족, 사진으로만 만난 여인, 여행 중 만난 외국인 등이 있다. 작업 방식은 먼저 그들을 관찰하고, 드로잉하고, 바느질로 천을 접고 꿰매어 형상을 이루어 나가는 방식을 택하였다. 이는 솜과 천의 부드러운 재료에 의해 바늘과 실로 형상을 만들어 가는 과정이다. 솜과 천은 안쪽에서 부드럽게 사람을 보호하는 재료이자, 부드럽고 폭신한 사람의 이미지나 피부를 표현하는데 효과적이었다. 또한 바느질 하는 동안 그 과정에서 주어진 시간과 재료를 통해 느껴지는 촉감 적 경험에 의해 사람의 형상 하나하나를 묘사해 가면서 이전에는 인식하지 못하였던 대상의 모습을 발견할 수 있었다. 인물의 주름, 눈빛, 표정, 습관 등을 내내 깊이 생각하게 되는데, 이는 그 사람과 다시 만나는 과정이 된다. 만들어진 형상은 각기 구체적인 인물에 대해 내가 가진 이미지를 형상화 한 것이다. 각 인물의 연령이나 가족 내의 지위, 사회적 직업, 성격을 통해 형성된 이미지를 관찰자인 나의 기억에 의해 벽 전체를 뒤 덮기도 하고, 바닥이 보이도록 얇은 천으로 깔기도 하며, 때로는 하나의 개체로 공간속에 존재하기도 하고, 틀에 설치하기도하며, 오브제와 함께 설치하기도 하였다. 사람의 얼굴에는 그들이 살아온 세월을 품고 있는데, 이것이 그 사람의 이미지가 되어 그들의 삶을 말해준다. 천과 솜 위에 바느질 하여 표현하는 것은 그들이 가진 많은 주름들을 효과적으로 표현하게 하고, 재료가 가진 물성에 의해 부드럽고 따뜻한 촉각적 이미지 표현에도 용이 하였다. 이것은 각 사람들의 이미지에 따라 다르게 표현된 설치로 각 인물의 심리적 이미지를 보여준다.;The person has so many meet while living. And the people who are remembered from the meet has a point held in common by there soul with the person who remember it. The story what made by the time, the space, and the energy which held in common with them is important motive of memory. I expressed the image of people from the memory by my works. It is also meeting with people by expression of the memory from the meet. I made people who I met. I choose the people for my work in my relationship who I spend my childhood with, a woman who I met by photo only, and foreigners who I met for trip etc. For the way of works, I observed them, drew and formed by needlework from folding and sawing cotton and cloth. This is process which I make formed by needles and thread with soft material of cotton and cloth. Cotton and cloth is care people's skin inside softly. So there are effective for expression of soft and fluffy image of people and there skin. I could find unknown feature of the person when I descript detail deeply by the time from the process and tactile experience from the materials. Because I could get the thinking of there winkles, eyes, expressions, and habits when I have doing needlework. So I met the people again. Etch works is expressed the image of etch people from my memory. I covered a whole wall by cotton cloth work, spread the floor by thin cloth to show through, made independent existence in the space, and installed on the frames or with objects for expression of etch people's age, position in there family, job in there society and characters. people's faces have there lifes. It is going to be there image then it is show there life. The expression by needlework on cotton and cloth is effective for expression of there many wrinkles, and It make the image softly from the material. So they are shown psychological image of etch people by different installation from image of etch person.
