정신지체인들의 하느님 개념 발달에 관한 연구

Abstract

종교교육의 문제점에 맞서서 일반아동과 청소년에 이르기까지 그들에게 바른 종교의식을 심어주기 위해서 일반적인 발달 및 종교적 발달단계와 현재의 종교적인 개념의 이해정도가 어느정도인가 하는 종교적 사고를 과학적으로 분석가능케 한 학자로 R. Goldman(1964)을 들 수 있다. 그는 발달심리 학자인 J. Piaget(1962)의 인지발달이론을 응용하여 교육의 새로운 방향을 제시하였다. 즉, Piaget(1962)의 감각운동기→전조작기→구체적 조작기→ 형식적 조작기의 인지발달단계에 따라서 Goldman(1964)은 종교적 사고기 또한 직관적 사고기→구체적 사고기→추상적 사고기의 단계를 거쳐 발달 해감을 입증하였다. 일반아동과 청소년들을 대상으로 연구되어진 하느님 개념 발달에 관하여 이것이 정신지체인들에게 어떻게 적용되어질 수 있으며 어떠한 영향을 미칠 수 있는지에 대해서 지금까지 전혀 연구된 바가 없음을 고려하여, 정신지체인들을 대상으로 하느님 개념 발달이 정신연령과 생활연령 및 성별에 따른 차이가 있는지, 하느님 개념에 대한 표현이 어떠한지를 살펴봄으로써 앞으로 정신지체인들의 종교교육의 내용과 방향설정에 도움이 되고자하였다. 본 연구에서는 연구대상으로 충청북도 음성꽃동네에서 거주하는 남,녀 정신지체인 82명을 선정하여 생활연령 4집단(10-20세, 21 -30세, 31-40세, 41-50세)과 정신연령 2집단 즉, 전조작기(6-6세12개월)와 구체적 조작기(7-8 세)로 나누었다. 각 대상자의 정신연령을 측정하기 위하여 한국판 P.T.I검사(Pictorial Test of Intellgence)를 실시하였으며 하느님 개념에 대한 표현방법을 분석하기 위해 11개의 문항을 선정하여 개인별 면접을 실시하였다. 11개의 문항을 Goldman(1964)의 하느님 개념 유형 범주에 근거하여 '하느님의 형체', '하느님의 편재성', '하느님의 공평성', '하느님과의 교제', '하느님의 활동'의 다섯 가지 범주로 구분하였다. 연구문제에 따라 유의미한 차이를 검증하기 위해 삼원분산분석하였으며 종교적 사고 발달에 따라 하느님 개념 표현에 차이가 있는지를 알아보기 위해서 11개 문항의 응답수 각각에 대하여 빈도수와 백분율을 산출했다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. '하느님' 개념은 정신연령에 대해서만 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 2. '하느님' 개념에 포함된 다섯가지 하위개념 중 '하느님의 편재성', '하느님과의 교제', '하느님의 활동' 개념은 정신연령에 따라 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. '하느님의 편재성' '하느님의 공평성' 개념은 생활연령에 따른 차이가 유의미하게 나타났다. 성별에 따라서는 모두 유의미한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 3. 하느님 개념에 대한 표현방법을 다섯가지 하위개념별로 보면, '하느님의 형체'에서 정신지체인들은 신인동형론적인 사고를 주로 갖고 있었으며, '하느님의 편재성'에서는 하늘이란 응답수가 가장 많았으며 '하느님의 공평성'에 대해서는 속성적 이유로 하느님은 화를 내시지 않는다는 응답수가 가장 많았다. '하느님과의 교제'에서는 신앙적 이유에 대한 표현들이 가장 많았고 '하느님의 활동'에 대해서는 속성적 이유에 대한 표현들을 함으로써 하느님의 활동에 대해서 바르게 이해를 하고 있었다. 이상의 결과들을 종합해보면 정신지체인들의 하느님 개념 발달은 각 하위개념에 따라 조금씩 다르지만 인지발달단계는 전조작기→구체적 조작기로 발전되며, Goldman(1964)의 이론과 비교하면 직관적 사고기(전조작기)→구체적 사고기(구체적 조작기)→추상적 사고기(구체적 조작기)의 단계를 거쳐 발달해감을 알 수 있었다. 이것으로 일반아동과 청소년을 대상으로 입증된 사고발달과 종교적 사고발달 사이에는 밀접한 관계가 정신지체인들에게도 적용될 수 있음을 본 연구의 대상자들을 통해서 제한적으로나마 시사할 수 있었다.;R. Goldman developed 3 developmental stage of intuitive religious thinking, concrete religious thinking and abstract religious thinking to explore the concept of religous development in normal child. His theoretical basis was from Piaget' 4 cognitive developmental theory with period of sensorymotor intelligence, period of preconception, period of concrete operation and period of formal operation. The purpose of the present study was to investigate in the mentally retarded persons, how they form a concept of God and how they develop it acording to mental age, chronical age and different sexes. The subjects of this study were 82 mentally retarded persons of both sexes in Eum sung Kott Dong Ne of Chungbuk, which divided 4 groups of 10-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50 year old chronical age, and 2 groups of 6;0-6.12, 7;0-8;0 year old mental age. The measurement tools were Korean P.T.I. test for mental age, and 11 questionaires made by the concept of God according to Goldman's theory were interviewed for the concept of God in mentally retarded persons. The questionairs include `form of God', `presence of God', `justice of God', `communication of God', and `activity of God'. Data collected were analysed, item by item, with percentage, three-way Anova, and the Duncan method of multiple comparison. The results are followings; 1. The concept of God was significant different in mental age. 2. Among the 5 low class concept of God, `presence of God', `communication of God', and `activity of God' were significantly diferent in mental age. Also, `presence of God' and `justice of God were significantly different in chronical age. There were no difference in both sexes. 3. In the expression of the concept of God, most of them expressed God is alike Man in `form of God', heaven in `presence of God', no anger in `justice of God', reasons of faith in `communication of God', and reasons of character of God in `activity of God'. The conclusion of above results were that the mentally retarded persons also developed the concept of God in the order of intuitive religious thinking, concrete religious thinking, and abstract religious thinking by Goldman. Therefore, Goldmans' developmental method for the concept of God is useful even in the mentally retarded persons that the concept of God gradually develope with the development of mental age.
