채집을 통한 시간의 깊이와 변화에 대한 표현연구

Abstract

시간은 인간에게 있어서 항상 커다란 수수께끼로 존재해 왔다. 서로 밀접한 관계에 있는 시간과 공간을 비교해 보더라도 공간은 우리를 완전히 둘러싸고 있는 반면, 시간은 차례로 조금씩 체험되고 있다. 따라서 사람들은 자신의 과거와 현재 그리고 미래를 동시에 바라볼 수 없다. 그러나 이 땅에 먼저 뿌리내린 자연은 조용하게 침묵하면서 변치 않으며 항상 그 자리에 있는 것처럼 보이지만 생명의 모든 변화를 포용하며 인간에게 자신이 누구이고 어디서 왔으며 어디로 가는지 방향을 말해준다. 본 연구는 시간이란 공통된 법칙 아래 자연과 인간이 서로 닮았다는 믿음을 바탕으로 하여 자연에서 발견할 수 있는 시간에 따른 증거물들을 채집하여 그것을 통해 시간의 깊이와 변화를 표현하는데 목적이 있 다. 그리고 그 변화를 통해 시간이 흐른다는 것과 인간 역시 그 안에서 함께 변해가는 자연의 일부라는 것을 깨닫는데 의의를 둔다. 본 연구에서 '시간의 깊이'란 시간이 더해지면서 이루어 나가는 모습을 뜻한다. 때로 시간은 누적되면서 하나의 기록처럼 그것이 어떤 힘에 의해, 어떤 방향으로, 어떻게 변화했는지 나타내기도 한다. 이것은 화석과도 같으며 논문에서는 자연물을 통해 그러한 느낌을 살려보고자 한 다. 반면 누적된 모습으로 흔적을 남기진 않지만 수 천년 전부터 계속 반복되어 오면서도 언제나 새로운 느낌을 갖게 하는 것 또한 시간의 모습이다. 이러한 익숙하면서도 새롭고, 풍성한 느낌을 '시간의 깊이'로 표현하고자 한다. 이론적 배경에선 지속적인 실재 시간과 시대를 초월하여 존재하는 여러 가지 시간 개념을 대지 위에 그림처럼 나타낸 작품들과, 자연 재료를 이용하여 탄생에서 소멸까지, 생명력을 포함한 작품들을 살펴보았다. 표현 내용으로 시간 깊이의 의미와 그것을 통해 깨닫고자 하는 내용을 다루었으며, 표현 내용에 따른 방법으로 시간을 느낄 수 있는 자연물- 돌, 나무, 나뭇잎, 꽃잎, 흙-을 각 시간대 별로 채집, 변화와 과정을 나타내었다. 특히 각 계절마다 대표하는 꽃과 나뭇잎의 색을 그대로 보존하여 관람자로 하여금 하나의 기록을 바라보는 관찰자적 시각을 갖게 하고, 관람자의 지속적인 시간을 통해 다양한 변화를 직접 체험함으로써 자연 속의 자신의 존재를 깨닫게 하고자 하였다. 자연물을 직접 제시함에 따라 제작상 형태의 변형은 불가피 했으나 재료의 성질엔 변화를 주지 않았고, 작품 제작 역시 짧게는 5개월 길게는 1년 이상의 시간이 소요되었다. 하지만 연구자는 시간의 깊이를 제시할 뿐 변화와 방향을 찾는 것은 관람자의 몫이며 그것은 이미 자신들이 알고 있는 것들이다. 따라서 그들에게 알고 있던 사실에 대한 신비감과 사색을 하게 함으로 사물에 대한 새로운 경험을 하게 한다. 작품 분석에서는 표현된 7점의 작품을 대상으로 이론적 배경과 표현 내용 및 방법 에 근거하여 분석 하였다. 본 연구는 미술이 시간과 분리된 영원하고 단일하며 명료한 모더니즘적 성격을 벗어나 과정이 작품의 일부가 되어 연구자와 함께 변화하는, 생명력을 가진 조각의 가능성을 암시하였다. 따라서 조각이 살아있는 자신을 나타내는 적합한 표현 수단임을 나타내었고 나아가 자신을 비롯하여 둘러싼 세계를 재확인시키는 계기를 마련한다.;Time has always been like big riddles to human beings. Comparing time and space closely related to each other, space completely surrounds us, but time is being expierienced step by step. Accordingly, the people cannot see the past, the present and the future at the same time. However, nature tells human beings who they are where they are from and headed comprehending all changes of life though it seems to stay in the same place without saying a word. This study has a purpose to express the depth and change of time by collecting evidence according to time found in nature based on the belief that human and nature are alike under the common rule of time. Also, this study has a meaning in realizing time flows through changes and human beings are part of nature changing together in it. `The depth of time' in this study means features made in the course of time. Accumulated, time appears like a record by certain power or toward certain direction, or changes. It is like a fossil, and this paper is intended to revive those feelings through natural objects. On the other hand, time always gives new feelings in spite of its repetition for thousands of years without traces. I tried to express this familiar, new and rich feeling into the `depth of time' As a atheoretical background, I examined works of art expressing the concept of time existing beyond times on the earth like a picture inculding birth, extinction and vitality using natural materials. For expression contents, I covered the meaning of the depth of time and the contents to be realized through it, and represented the change of natural materials such as stones, trees, leaves, petals and soil that wake feel time. Especially, I made viewers feel like watching a record by preserving the color or flowers and leaves of each season as they are, and made them realize their existence in nature by experiencing various changes through viewers' lastiong time. I had to transform the form to directly show natural objects, but I didn't change the characteristics of the materials. It took 5 months to 1 year for creating works. However, all I did was suggest the depth time, and it was viewers' work to find change and direction, and they are the things they already know. Accordingly, I made viewers experience new things about the objects by letting them thinking of the fact they used to know. For analysis on my work, I took theoretical backgrouand and expression contents & methods as the basis with 7 works created. This study suggests the possibility of sculpture with vitality, changing with a researcher escaping eternal, Simple and modern characteristics separated from time. Accordingly, I tried to express Sculpture as a proper means for expressing oneself, and make an opportunity to reconfirm the world surrounding us.
