일상적 모티프(motif)를 통한 도자 표현 연구

Abstract

예술작품은 감각과 상상력을 통해 창조되어지는 작가의 자기표현이다. 그것이 표현하는 내용은 예술가가 느낀 것에 대한 관념이기 때문에 상상적이고 주관적인 내용이며 그가 속한 시간과 공간 속에서 형성되는 것이다. 예술가에게 있어 체험은 작업의 중요한 동기가 되며 일상생활에서 불명확하게 경험되어지는 자연의 미나 인체의 미, 아름다운 색의 형태 등에 대하여 강렬한 경험을 한 예술가는 미적 체험을 거쳐 그 이미지를 창작활동에 이용한다. 우리는 내면의 눈으로 일상의 시, 공간속의 사물을 바라볼 때 예기치 못한 경이로움을 마주하게 되며 그것을 통하여 꿈의 체험을 이끌어 낼 수 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 일상적 삶의 체험과 기억 그리고 상상으로부터 얻어지는 경험적 이미지를 초현실주의의 상상력을 통하여 도자로 조형화함으로써 새로운 느낌(feeling)과 정서(emotion)를 환기시키고자 하는데 있다. 연구의 이론적 배경에서는 존 듀이(John Dewey)의 경험론에 입각하여 예술로 표현되어지는 일상적 경험의 의미를 알아보고 개인적인 경험, 상상력, 무의식적 공상활동에 큰 가치를 둔 초현실주의 미술이론과 초현실주의 작가의 작품에서 나타난 상상적 표현을 살펴보았다. 아울러 일상성을 소재로 한 현대 도자 작품을 살펴봄으로써 작품제작에 참고로 하였다. 표현의 내용은 일상적 사물과 풍경에 대한 정감적 인식과 교감으로 이루어진 체험 속에서 느낄 수 있었던 휴식의 이미지와 휴식에 대한 그리움이다. 이를 표현하기 위하여 주관적인 표현의지에 따라 크기가 변형되는 심리적인 원근법을 사용하고, 사물을 자연적인 양상에서 벗어나게 하여 시적인 의미를 부여하기도 하였다. 소재로는 도시의 건물, 골목길, 실내공간에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 관상용 선인장과 화분, 의자, 컵 등을 소재로 이들에게 개인적인 시각을 부 여하여, 심상에 투영되어진 휴식 이미지로 표현하였다. 작품 제작시 태도로는 형태 변형과 건조, 소성시 균열이 적고 질감 표현이 용이한 석기질 점토와 유약의 발색 효과가 좋은 자기질 점토를 사용하였으며, 제작방법으로는 코일링(coiling), 모델링(modeling), 판성형 등 다양한 방법을 사용하였다. 표면 처리시 안료와 산화물을 섞어 그림을 그리고 기물에 따라 에어브러쉬와 세라믹펜슬을 사용하였다. 유약은 무광택유를 기본으로 하여 분무 시유하였다. 소성은 1.3m³가스가마에서 8시간동안 900℃를 마침 온도로 1차 소성 하였고 2차 소성은 1.3m³ 가 스가마에서 9시간동안 1,250℃를 마침 온도로 산화 소성하였다. 필요에 따라 테라 시즐러타(terra sigillata)를 사용하여 l.3m³ 가스가마에서 마침 온도 1,100℃로 7시간동안 3차 소성 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 일상에서 발견한 친근한 사물 모든 것은 영감과 상상력을 제공하여 작품표현의 훌륭한 소재가 될 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 내면의 눈을 통해 변모한 사물들은 예상치 못한 이미지를 이끌어 낼 수 있으며, 다양한 이미지의 표현 가능성을 재인식하게 하였다.;An art work is an artist's self-expression created by his/her senses and imaginations. These expressive contents are the concepts of the artist's feelings so that theses are imaginative, subjective and formed in the time and space which he belongs to. The experience of an artist is an important motif for working. The artist who has experienced about the natural beauty, beauty of human body, and beautiful form of colors can use those images in his creative work through his strong esthetic experiences. We might face an unexpected miracle (wonder) when watching the ordinary objects in our time and space with the inner eyes. We also drag out the experiences of dream through it. The purpose of this study is to experience an image of a rest which is made by the interaction with the ordinary objects that we can easily overlook in our everyday lives. In the theoretical background of this study, the meaning of ordinary experience is expressed based on John Dewey's Empiricism. In addition Surrealism and its artists' imaginary expressions focused on individual experiences, imagination and imaginary subconscious activities are examined. This study also refered to modern ceramic works performed with the ordinary materials to reflect it on art works. The contents of expression are the image of a rest and yearning toward the rest that made by the emotional recognition and interaction of ordinary objects and scenery. In order to express this, psychological perspective, which is changible according to the wills of the subjective expression, is used. Poetic meanings are also given to escape the objects from the natural aspect. In the process of expression, the materials such as cactus, flower-pot, chair, cup and etc. that often found in the urban buildings, streets and interior of a building are used. So those were useful to express the image of the rest reflected to inner image by providing them an individual vision. In the process of producing, stoneware clay which is hardly cracked or transformed in firing and easy to express the texture of product was used, and also refactory clay which is giving the effect of color forming of glaze was used. The work has done using the slab-building, coiling and modeling methods too. I've used the mixed glaze and oxydized material for surface treatment, and the airbrush and ceramic pencils for needs in painting. Matt one is basically used for glaze. The first firing was done in 1.3㎥ gas kiln at 800℃ for 8 hours and the second was done at 1250℃ for 9 hours. Terra sigillata was used when needed for the third firing. Through this study, I found that everything which is familiar to us in everyday lives can be a good object to express in art work. Also, objects transformed through our inner eyes could drag an unexpected image out, and they could be recognized the possibility of the expression of various images.
