We began looking for more meaning than just eating itself when we have foods since we are at a high level of culture and have a high standard of living thanks to affluent circumstances. Therefore, tableware started to be used not only for filling it with foods but also for meeting modern aesthetic desires. It is necessary to develop beautiful industrial tableware, which meets aesthetical desires going with Korean diet sentiments for fulfilling these two. The turn of the 21st Century has weakened the boundary between nations and it has brought about a diverse exchange of cultures. Such a change has been an important influence in altering our social fundaments. Our concepts on dress, food and habitation are changing rapidly. In particular, eating has taken on an important role in leading our contemporary lives. In this thesis, I modified traditional Korean tableware used widely in Korean families into one that is convenient and functional for use and fulfills the modern desires by applying natural forms of beautiful flowers. I reviewed the history, the pattern and the use of traditional Korean tableware by wide investigation of Korean tableware and tried to find a solution to the necessity for developing Korean industrial ceramic tableware which fulfills modern aesthetic desires combining utility and beauty, and matches function and aesthetic elements. I also investigated molding and utility though ceramics with forms of flowers and available Korean tableware photographs and applied them to the design of Korean tableware with forms of flowers. Designing Korean tableware, I tried to create a convenient and beautiful design considering foods put into it. Korean tableware giving atmosphere and visual pleasure to tables is designed having appropriate main tableware (e.g., a rice and a soup bowl), supplementary tableware (e.g., plates and chanki for side dishes, hap, jonji for spices and a drinking cup) and noodle tableware for bibipap or cold noodle for table setting and dishes. I used both a slip-casted and a press-molded methods which can produce an accurate shape in large quantities and used Silk White paper considering the characteristics of tableware. Partly, colors were mixed into clay slips and the first firing was done at 0.5㎥ gas kiln and the maximum heat, 850℃ for 7 hours. After the first firing, some of the tableware were decorated with designs using ceramic pencil and were glazed with transparent, black and copper glaze considering sanitation of the tableware. For others, I made changes by spray gazing copper glaze or mixing colors with transparent glaze after they were glazed with transparent glaze. The second firing was done in the same kiln at the maximum heat, 1250℃ for 9 hours. The third firing was electric kiln at the maximum heat, 760℃ for 5 hours depending on works. I could add aesthetic appreciation by taking into consideration unusual designs of handicrafts fulfilling modern aesthetic desires through studying Korean tableware designs. I have realized that it is urgent to standardize a pattern and size of Korean tableware. Also, I felted the infinite beauty and creation of nature by designing tableware with modified forms of flowers and could infer that there is infinite possibility of design development by modifying.-
