오디음악 동화중재가 인공와우 이식 유아의 핵심어휘 습득 및 동화 이해에 미치는 영향

Abstract

언어는 인간이 가진 고유한 능력이고, 자신을 표현하는 의사소통의 중요한 수단이다. 청각장애 유아들의 언어발달은 습득과정 상 비장애 유아들과 다르지 않지만, 청각적인 제한 때문에 어휘량이나 발달 속도 면에서 지체를 보이게 된다. 따라서 어휘력 향상과 원활한 의사소통을 위해 보장구의 착용을 통한 듣기 조건의 개선과 아울러 청각장애 유아들이 자발적으로 참여할만한 재미있고 효과적인 언어중재의 개발과 적용이 필요하다. 청각장애 유아들, 특히 물리적인 듣기 조건에 있어 비장애 유아들과 차이가 없는 인공와우 이식 유아들의 언어 발달을 촉진하기 위해 중재로서 많이 사용되는 것이 동화이며, 동화는 유아들에게 간접 경험을 제공하고 집중력 향상을 가져오며 맥락 안에서 어휘 습득을 할 수 있게 도와준다. 또한 음악과 언어는 구성 요소나 습득 과정 면에서 유사한 점이 많으므로 음악적 요소를 도입하여 유아들의 언어 발달을 촉진하는 것은 매우 효과적이다. 특히 교사의 육성 노래를 사용하고 놀이 속에서 유아들의 자발적인 참여를 강조하는 오디 음악활동의 노래들은 짧고 단순하면서도 유아들로 하여금 즐거움을 느끼게 하고 놀이 속에서 자연스럽게 언어를 배워 나갈 수 있게 하므로 지루하게 여겨질 수 있는 언어 중재를 즐거운 놀이로 바꾸어 줄 수 있다. 비장애 유아들을 대상으로 오디음악을 적용한 연구들이 여러 편 나와 있으나 유아들에게 친숙한 언어 자료인 동화와 오디음악을 접목한 경우는 드물며, 청각장애 특히 인공와우 이식 유아들을 대상으로 실시된 연구는 찾아보기 어렵다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 오디음악을 동화와 접목하여 만든 오디음악 동화중재를 실시하여 이 중재가 인공와우 이식 유아들의 핵심어휘 습득 및 동화 내용 이해에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구대상은 한쪽 귀 혹은 양쪽 귀에 인공와우 이식을 받았고, 특수학교 유치부에 다니고 있는 만4세 청각장애 유아들이며, 대상자간 중다간헐기초선 설계를 이용하여 오디음악 동화중재를 실시한 후 유아들의 핵심어휘 습득과 동화 내용 이해의 변화를 측정하였다. 중재를 실시할 때 대상 유아를 포함한 청각장애 유아 3명과 비장애 유아 1명으로 구성된 소그룹의 형태로 오디음악 동화를 들려주었으며, 중재는 5분의 사전 핵심어휘 검사, 30분의 오디음악 동화 듣기 및 후속놀이, 그리고 5분의 동화 이해 검사로 구성되었다. 중재가 종료된 지 3주 후에 각 대상 유아별로 3회기의 유지 검사가 실시되었다. 본 연구를 통해 얻어진 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 오디음악 동화중재는 인공와우 이식 유아들의 핵심어휘 습득에 긍정적인 영향을 주었으며 핵심어휘의 습득율을 증가시켰다. 둘째, 오디음악 동화중재는 인공와우 이식 유아들의 동화 내용 이해에 영향을 주어 동화 이해 정답율을 증가시켰다. 셋째, 오디음악 동화중재로 습득된 핵심어휘 습득율과 동화 이해 정답율은 중재가 끝난 후에도 기초선, 혹은 중재 시기보다 높은 상태로 유지되었다. 이러한 결과는 오디음악 동화중재가 인공와우 이식 유아들의 집중력을 향상시키고 반복학습이 이루어질 수 있게 하여 핵심어휘 습득을 촉진하며, 동화 듣기에 즐겁게 참여할 수 있도록 하여 동화의 내용을 잘 이해하고 공감할 수 있도록 도와준다는 사실을 입증하는 것이다. 본 연구는 3명이라는 적은 수의 인공와우 이식 유아들을 대상으로 실시되었다는 제한점이 있지만, 동화를 들려주는 것이 유아들의 어휘력 향상과 문맥적 내용 이해에 효과적이라는 사실과, 오디음악이 유아들의 자발적인 참여를 이끌어 내며 즐겁게 놀이 속에서 언어 발달을 해 나갈 수 있도록 도와준다는 선행 연구의 내용을 입증하였다. 또한 두 가지의 효과적인 중재를 잘 어울리게 조합하여 적용하였다는 점과, 듣기의 제한으로 인해 음악을 활용한 중재로부터 늘 열외의 대상이었던 청각장애 유아들에게 최초로 오디음악을 포함한 중재를 적용하였다는 점에서 선행연구를 확장하였다고 볼 수 있다.;In terms of linguistic acquisition, language development of hearing impaired children does not vary much from that of children with normal hearing ability, but a considerable delay in vocabularies and in overall developmental rate occurs due to their auditory limitations. Therefore, to facilitate better communication with expanded vocabulary, fun and effective language intervention should be developed and applied to hearing impaired children, together with the improvement of hearing conditions by wearing assisting devices. Short and simple songs from Audie program make children learn language naturally while playing, as these songs utilize teachers' pleasant voices and have focus on children's voluntary participation. Audie songs turn language intervention, which can be quite boring to children, into fun games. Therefore, this study undertook the experiment of Audie music-storybook intervention by creating and using original Audie songs based on the contents of storybooks. The purpose of the study is to see whether the intervention has a positive influence on children with cochlear implants in terms of acquiring key vocabularies and understanding the overall text. The subjects of the study are four-year-old hearing impaired children who had cochlear implants in one or both ears and currently attend special-education kindergartens. The Audie music-storybook intervention was conducted under the multiple probe design across subjects. The intervention consisted of pre-test of the key vocabularies (5 min.), listening to the story with Audie music and after-games (30 min.), and after-test on the understanding of the story (5 min.). Three times of maintenance tests were given to each child two weeks later the intervention. Here are the summary of the study results. Firstly, as seen in the increased percentage of key vocabulary acquisition, the Audie music - storybook intervention had a positive influence on children with cochlear implants in terms of learning key vocabularies. Secondly, the Audie music - storybook intervention showed an evident effect on the understanding level of children with cochlear implants; the percentage of correct answers on the understanding tests was improved. Thirdly, the percentages of key vocabulary acquisition and understanding level were maintained higher than the baseline or than the intervenient period after the intervention. Though this study is limited in its small number of subjects, the fact that telling stories is beneficial to children in acquiring vocabularies and understanding the content is also shown to be authentic in this study, and arguments from precentic Audie music studies, which say Audie music motivates children's voluntary participation and helps them develop language while having fun, are proved undoubtedly true once more here in this study. Furthermore, this study created a powerful language intervention method by integrating two very effective intervention tools of music and storybook, and for the first time, applied it to hearing impaired children who are mostly sidelined from music-related interventions because of their auditory limitations.
