Milton Babbitt의 "The Widow's Lament in Springtime" 분석연구

Abstract

Milton Babbitt(1916 ~ )은 Schoenberg의 12음 기법을 음악적 관련성에 대한 전체적 인식으로 확대 발전 시켰으며, 처음으로 12음 기법에 대한 표준적이고 체계적인 연구방법을 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, 나아가서 음악적 관심의 범위가 넓어지게 되는 계기를 마련하였다. Babbitt은 그의 여러 작품을 통해 12음 기법의 이론과 실제성의 긴밀함을 확인시켰는데, 본 논문에서는 가곡 "The Widow's Lament in Springtime" 의 분석을 통해 Babbitt에 의해 더욱 더 그 가능성이 넓어진 현대적인 12음 기법(Modern twelve technique)의 사용을 살펴보고자 한다. The Widow's Lament in Springtime"은 1950년에 씌여졌으며 W.C. Williams의 시에 의한 소프라노와 피아노를 위한 곡이다. 기본 음열과 여기서 파생된 4개의 음렬 조합을 중심으로 Prime과 Inversion이 짝을 지어 사용되며 곡 전체에 쓰인 Trichord적 요소와 음렬의 동시성과 연속성, 6음 조합에 의한 Aggrigate등이 매우 특징적인 작품으로 한 단계 발전된 12음 기법의 면모를 살펴볼 수 있다.;This thesis analyzes "The Widow's Lament in Springtime", which is a song for piano and soprano composed by Milton Babbitt in 1950. It is composed three part form with eight sections and used one basic prime set with four derived set of its own. This song indicates two distinctions. The one shows the development of new stage set composition from the existing set composition. And the other one shows that independent four parts of soprano composition alteration movement with an aspects of modern twelve-tone technique from the classical piano accompaniment composition.
