Abstract

세자르 프랑크(César Auguste Jean Guillaume Hubert Franck, 1822-1890)는 후기 낭만시대에 순수 기악음악을 크게 발전시킨 대표적인 작곡가로 음악학 교수이자 뛰어난 오르가니스트이며 종교음악가였다. 그는 독일음악과 프랑스 음악을 융합시키고, 고전 음악 양식과 낭만 음악적 요소를 합한 음악을 보여주었다. 그의 작품들은 고전적인 양식을 바탕으로 변하기 쉬운 화성과 급작스런 전조를 사용하였고 반음계적 선율과 순환형식을 사용하여 자유로운 구성을 시도하였다. 이렇게 다양한 양식들을 사용함과 더불어 순환동기를 통해 작품 전체에 통일성을 부과함으로서 프랑크의 음악적 특징을 잘 나타낸다. 특히 이러한 프랑크만의 독특하고 다양한 작곡기법이 잘 나타나 있는 그의 바이올린 소나타 Violin Sonata in A Major 는 그의 후기 창작기의 대표적인 작품이자 유일한 바이올린 소나타이다. 이 곡은 4악장으로 구성되어 있으며, 각 악장의 주제로 3개의 순환동기를 반복, 결합, 그리고 변형을 가하면서 전체적인 통일성을 부여하였다. 그리고 조성에 있어서 단순한 5도구조가 아닌 3도 관계조를 사용하며 후기 낭만주의 작품답게 색채적인 화성과 과감한 전조를 사용하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 프랑크의 생애와 당시 시대적 배경, 그의 작품들의 전반적인 특징과 이론적 연구를 바탕으로 그의 대표작인 Violin Sonata in A Major를 분석하여 작품에 대한 이해와 연주하는데 도움을 주고자 한다.;César Auguste Jean Guillaume Hubert Franck(1822-1890) was a professor of musicology, organist, and religious musician who developed instrumental music in Romantic era. He synthesized German and French music, and combined Classical style and Romantic elements. His music shows unique characteristics such as contrapuntal melody within a classical frame, cyclical techniques using one or more themes in multiple movements, and free modulations with chromatic harmonies. Sonata in A Major, which composed in his late years, is the only sonata for violin that presents his unique characteristics and composing techniques. It consists of four movement. Each movement has three cyclical themes that are constantly repeated, combined and modified to give coherence to the whole piece. He uses colorful harmonies, bold modulations, and mediant relationships instead of closely related fifths. Violin sonata in A Major is one of the important Romantic repertoires that show Frank's unique musical language.
