현대 한국어의 음성상징어 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 현대 한국어에서 감각을 음성상징으로 표현하는 어휘군을 대상으로 그 형태와 의미의 체계를 분석, 정리하기 위한 것이다. 음성상징어의 필수적 혹은 수의적 조건은 다음과 같다. ① 음(혹은 음운) 자체가 의미를 지니는 어휘군이다. ② 감각을 표현하는 어휘군이다. ③ 음운교체의 구조를 가지는 어휘군이다. ④ 접사에 의해 문법적 기능이 변화되는 어휘군이다. ⑤ 형태의 첩용이 가능한 어휘군이다. 본 연구는 크게 네 부분으로 나뉜다. II장에서는, 사전에 등록된 음성상징어를 대상으로 음운과 형태를 체계적 분석한다. 이를 위하여 음성상징어(총 4622語)를 감각별로 나누어 음절수, 형태구조, 음운구조, 문법적 파생양상 등을 유형화한다. III장에서는, 사용빈도가 높은 음성상징어를 중심으로 음과 의미와의 관계 즉 음성상징 체계를 구축한다. 이를 위하여 교육용 교재, 문학 담화자료, 방송 담화자료 등 실제 언어사용 장면에서 나타나는 음성상징어를 수집하고, 그 사용빈도를 근거로 하여 기본 음성상징어의 목록을 만든다. 기본 음성상징어를, 소의 미군으로 다시 세분하여 음운내용을 분석한다. 여기서 음성상징어의 음성상징체계가 파악되고 음성상징어의 감각별 혹은 소의미군별 전형적인 의미·형태유형을 추출된다. IV장의 A와 B에서는, 음성상징어의 의미와 어휘적 가치를 화용적인 측면에서 검토한다. 이를 위하여 먼저 음성상징어의 발생과 사용효과를 고찰하고, 사전에서 간과하고 있는 <맥락에 의한 애매성(Contextual Fuzziness)>에 의한 의미가 중요하다는 사실을 밝힌다. 맥락에 의한 애매성은 화자의 대상과 청자에 대하여 자지는 태도나 심리, 관용적 용법 등의 요인에서 비롯된다고 보고, 이들 요인이 만들어 내는 맥락적 의미가 음성상징어의 의미전반에서 가지는 비중을 모국어 사용자에게 설문조사하여 증명한다. 그리고 음성상징어의 어휘적 가치는 실제 언어사용 장면(교육용 교재, 문학 담화자료, 방송 담화자료)에서 사용되는 빈도 중심으로 재조명한다. IV장의 C에서는, III장에서 추출한 음성상징 체계를 모국어 사용자의 음감인지 체계와 대조하여, 음성상징어에 있어 언어사용과 언어의식과의 관계를 모색한다. 그 결과, 음성상징어에서는 사용된 어휘의 음운내용(음성상징 체계)과 모국어 사용자의 언어의식 속에 있는 음과 의미와의 관계(音感認知 체계)가 일치한다는 사실을 밝힌다. 현대 한국어의 음성상징어를 형태구조, 음운교체 구조, 문법적 파생양상, 음성상징 체계, 실제 언어사용 장면에서의 의미양상과 사용효과, 사용빈도에 의거한 어휘적 가치, 음성상징 체계와 음감인지 체계와의 대조 등의 항목을 중심으로 분석, 정리한 본 연구는, 어휘량과 사용빈도에 있어서나 파생양상에 있어서나 현대 한국어의 어휘군으로 주요한 위치에 있는 음성상징어를 전반적이고 체계적으로 분석한다는 데 그 의의가 있다. 앞으로 남은 과제는 음운교체의 구조와 음운의 사용빈도를 통한 음운의 階層(hierachy)설정, 적절한 측정요인을 기준으로 하여 의미의 階層 설정, 실제언어사용 자료를 통한 통사적 기능과 맥락 내의 의미관계의 구명 그리고 음성상징어의 교육실태를 조사하여 교육상 문제점과 효율적 교육방안의 마련 등이다. 주요 용어 음성상징어, 음성상징 체계, 음성상징어의 형태구조, 음성상징어의 음운교체 구조, 맥락에 의한 애매성, 고빈도 기본 음성상징어, 音感認知 체계;The purpose of this thesis is to examine and analyze the system of form and meaning of a lexicon which expresses sense by means of phonetic symbolism in modern Korean. The obligatory or optional condition of the lexicon is as follows. (1) A lexicon has the meaning which is expressed by phoneme. (2) A lexicon expresses sense. (3) A lexicon has the structure of phonological derivation. (4) The grammatical function of a lexicon is changed by suffixes. (5) A lexicon makes it possible to reduplicate the form. For this study, the process is divided into the following four parts. First of all, I try to analyze the overall form and phoneme of lexicon exhibiting phonetic symbolism systematically listed in the dictionary in chapter II. For this work, I divide lexicon exhibiting phonetic symbolism by sensory classes and classify them such as the number of form, the structure of phoneme, the aspects ofgrammatical derivation, and so on. Next, in chapter III, I build up phonetic symbolic system, that is, the relation between sound and meaning, focusing on lexicon exhibiting phonetic symbolism which has high frequency in use. For this, I firstly collect lexicon exhibiting phonetic symbolism which appears in textbooks for education, discourse materials in literature and broadcasting. Then I make the list of basic lexicon exhibiting phonetic symbolism, I analyze the structure of phoneme into minor lexicon subdivided by meaning which is more specific than that of sensory classes. As a result, I find out phonetic symbolic system of lexicon exhibiting phonetic symbolism and can extract the typical meaning and form patterns of sense or minor lexicon subdivided by meanings of lexicon exhibiting phonetic symbolism. In section A and B, chapter IV, I discuss the meaning and the lexical value of lexicon exhibiting phonetic symbolism in pragmatics. Examinung the occurrence and the effect of use of lexicon exhibiting phonetic symbolism, I point out the problem of describing the meaning which ignores Contextual Fuzzy in existing dictionary. I think of the factor of Contextual Fuzziness as the object of speaker, attitude and mental state toward hearer, and idiomatic usage. I prove that by questionnaire conducted on native speaker. I reexamine the lexical value of lexicon exhibiting phonetic symbolism in textbooks for education, discourse materials in literature and broadcasting. Finally, in section C, chapter IV, I try to find the relation between language use and the consciousness of language in lexicon exhibiting phonetic symbolism, contrasting phonetic symbolic system extracted in chapter II with sound-cognitive system of native speaker. As a result, I find out the fact that the aspects of used language(phonetic symbolic system) is consistent with native speaker’s consciousness of language(sound-cognitive system) in lexicon exhibiting phonetic symbolism.
