중학교 '동물의 구조와 기능'단원에서 협동학습이 학생들의 학업성취도와 태도에 미치는 영향

Abstract

과학교육에 있어서 전통적 수업은 다양한 학생들의 특성과 요구를 수용하지 못하여 학생들의 과학에 대한 흥미를 저하시켰다. 평균적인 다수의 학생들을 대상으로 한 수업에서 결국 많은 학생들이 수업에 흥미를 잃게 되어 학생들은 타율적인 대상으로만 머물러 자신의 능력을 발휘할 기회를 얻지 못하고 있다. 이러한 문제를 극복하고 학생들의 활동을 격려하며 구성원들의 합의를 통한 문제해결을 이끌어내기 위한 수업 방식으로서 협동학습이 제안되었다. 본 연구에서는 생물교과에 협동학습을 적용하여 그 효과를 분석하고 소집단 학습과 협동학습의 차이가 있는지 알아보고자 하였다. 중학교 2학년 「동물의 구조와 기능」 단원에서 협동학습을 실시하여 과학 학업 성취도와 태도에 대한 효과를 분석하였다. 연구대상은 서울시 소재 남, 여 공학 중학교 2학년 188명이며 6개 학급을 무작위 선정하여 2개 학급은 협동학습을 실시하고 2개 학급은 소집단 학습을 하였으며 2개 학급은 전통적 수업을 하였다. 연구 기간은 10주간 10차시를 실시하였고 수업 처치 전, 후의 학업 성취도와 태도의 변화를 알아보기 위해 동일한 검사지를 이용한 과학학업 성취도와 과학학습에 대한 태도 검사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과는 SPSS통계 프로그램을 이용하여 공변량분석으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과 협동학습반이 소집단학습반이나 전통적 수업반에 비해 학업 성취도와 태도면에서 유의미한 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다(p<.05). 그리고 학업 성취 수준이 상위인 학생들 경우 성취도 면에서 협동학습이 유의미한 효과가 없었던 것에 비해 중위와 하위의 학생들은 협동학습이 효과가 있었다(p<.05). 또한 협동학습은 학생들의 성별에 있어서 남, 여학생 모두에게 효과적인 수업방식이었다(p>.05). 태도의 세 영역인 감정적 영역, 행동 의도적 영역, 인지적 영역 모두에서 협동학습이 유의미한 효과가 있었다(p<.05).;The cooperative learning movement began as parts of the desegregation process in America, aiming at increasing academic achievement and social skills among diverse students. Cooperative learning is a classroom learning environment in which students work in small groups. It is not simply division of labor among group members but it is a division of responsibilities. It generally involves heterogeneous members working together on tasks that are deliberately structured to provide specific assignments and individual contributions from each group member. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of cooperative learning on the students' learning attitude and science achievement. The subject of this study was 188 middle school students in Seoul. And this subject was divided into three groups, the cooperative learning , the small group learning and the traditional learning. The STAD(Student Team Achievement Division)model were performed in the cooperative learning group. This cooperative learning techniques include heterogeneous grouping and group incentives. This class treated for l0hours during l0weeks from September 1 to November 28, 1999. Pretests and post-tests about learning attitude and science achievement were performed. The science attitude test was established by Fraser & Fisher(19, and achievement test was developed by the researcher. The unit「Structures and Functions of Animals」 was used for this study. An analysis of covariance(ANCOVA) by SPSS was used as the data analysis procedure. Results of ANCOVA showed that cooperative learning was more effective than small group learning and traditional learning as for the improvement of students' science achievement and learning attitude (p < .05). Cooperative learning was more effective in the average-ability and low-ability students than the high-ability students in the science achievement.
