Sudanese women have made progress in leadership and professional positions in the last decade; however legal constraints continue to act as obstacles which limit their advancement into high leadership positions. This thesis aims to analyze the laws that discriminate against women and contribute to the low levels of women political participation and leadership in Sudan. Particularly, this thesis argues that the legal system and the law enforcement in Sudan are the main reasons for women’s low participation in politics and the under representation of women in decision making positions. This also provides a link at how these laws relate to gender equality. In comparison, Sudan, along with other Arab nations has a high discrimination rate of women. In fact, out of 102 countries Sudan is ranked last in terms of gender inequality. That is, Sudan has the most incidences of gender discrimination. Finally this thesis will provide recommendations that aim at bridging the gap between females and males by empowering women and magnifying their capabilities which will in turn increase the number of women in high level positions of political influence and important decision making.-
