현대 주얼리에 반영된 아르누보(Art Nouveau)와 아르데코(Art Deco) 예술양식 연구

Abstract

In modern jewelry, the concept of jewelry and its functions have changed with diversified complex societies in the background and a variety of different lifestyles. It has been a long time since its traditional concept of goods-value disappeared, and it even reached to the level of art that jewelry could be used as a means of representing manufacturers's ideas as well as representing wearer's individuality beyond the means of simple decoration. So, this work aimed to look at which period in history has impacted on modern jewelry in various ways until we come to this era of modern jewelry where such colorful materials and various designs are overflowing and seek for ways to further develop it by reevaluating its meaning. Literature search proved that Art Nouveau and Art Deco had a profound effect on the development of crafts, decorative arts, and jewelry. Accordingly, this study was based on the theoretical considerations of Art Nouveau and Art Deco and Jewelry to find out their aspects and characteristics, and compared the two forms in terms of their impact on the modern jewelry based on the theoretical consideration of the reality of modern jewelry. This study also looked at the impact of the two forms of jewelry design on the modern jewelry design by use of image scale and then analyzed and verified the degree. In the methodology, we had two methodologies: a. theoretical consideration based on the existing literature research and b. case study by use of image scale, and proceeded as follows. First, this work looks at the background, concept, and definition of Art Nouveau fashion and Art Deco one, and analyzes the characteristics and development process of the two fashions. It also considers the appearance and characteristics of jewelry in the period affected by the two fashions based on it. Next, it looks at the concept and types of modern jewelry and analyzes the appearance and characteristics of modern jewelry. Second, this study looked at the styles and characteristics of Art Nouveau jewelry, Art Deco jewelry, and modern jewelry by use of image scale and analyzed and verified the degree of the impact of the two forms of designs on the modern jewelry design. Finally, it analyzes and summarizes the impact of Art Nouveau and Art Deco fashions and jewelry on the appearance of modern jewelry based on these materials to reinterpret the picture of modern jewelry. The era of Art Nouveau focused on the design itself and put its value on artistry and creativity, which indicated that it was the start of development of modern design, giving people an impression that jewelry could be changed in various ways breaking the limits of representation to provide an opportunity that jewelry can develop in various forms and further gave an opportunity to change its identity while expanding its category by breaking the traditional concept of decorative- and goods-value in jewelry. Under these developmental dimensions, the era of Art Deco developed a new material with the development of technology, empowering a possibility of color and design representation, and such aspects can be seen as the start of modern jewelry in which people strive to discover and use a new material ranging from natural materials to artificial ones. In addition, the jewelry which obtained its artistic position as an area of representation from the start point of the era of Art Nouveau was acknowledged as the best area of representation which allowed jewelry artists to represent their world of spirits and creativity, became the ground for the development of artistic jewelry, and made remarkable process up to this day. Such series of aspects indicated that Art Nouveau and Art Deco influenced modern jewelry significantly. Passing by such periodic changes, a bias against the materials, motives, and techniques of jewelry broke and its concept of jewelry changed, and based on various possibilities, its category was also classified into expensive commercial jewelry, low-cost mass-produced jewelry, and artists' unique idea-expressing jewelry, and laid the foundation for more specific classification in modern jewelry: fine jewelry, costume jewelry, bridge jewelry, and artisan jewelry. To look at the design characteristics by use of image scale, Art Nouveau jewelry is distributed in all directions of 'complex' and 'simple' centering on curves and Art Deco jewelry is distributed in all directions of complex and simple centering on straight lines. This different orientation of the two jewelry designs results from the flow of art forms in each period, which indicates that both the times when the characteristics of Art Nouveau gradually changed from complex curve to simple one and the times when Art Deco represented 'complex' and 'simple' centering on geometric design(straight lines and zigzag) were reflected on jewelry design. Art Nouveau jewelry and Art Deco jewelry were polarized, but in modern jewelry they seemed to find out a compromise between the two, for example, they dominantly used many designs with the proper use of both curves and straights lines rather than using extreme designs and evolved into simple and modern designs. This study is significant in that it looks at the historical significance by a theoretical consideration of jewelry characteristics of both forms: Art Nouveau and Art Deco, analyzes the impact of them on modern jewelry fashion, and reevaluates an opportunity that modern jewelry can develop in terms of various types and designs. In addition, this study intended to analyze the degree of practical impact of Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewelry designs on the modern jewelry design by analyzing the design styles with image scale. It is anticipated that the rediscovery of modern jewelry through the comparison of consideration of such historical characteristics vs practical characteristics will be one of the ways to find a solution to the research and development of modern jewelry and future jewelry.;현대 주얼리는 다변화의 복잡한 사회와 다양한 생활양식을 배경으로 그 개념과 기능도 변화해오고 있다. 재화적 가치를 지닌 전통적인 개념이 깨진지 오래 되었고 단순한 장식 수단을 넘어 착용자의 개성 표현 수단뿐만 아니라 제작자의 사고를 표출하는 수단으로 예술의 영역에까지 도달하였다. 이렇게 다채로운 재료와 다양한 디자인이 범람하는 현대의 주얼리에 오기까지 역사 속 여정 중 어느 시대의 모습이 다방면으로 현대 주얼리에 지대한 영향을 미쳤는지 알아보고 그 의미를 되짚어봄으로써 현대 주얼리의 현재를 재조명해보고 미래 발전 가능성을 가늠해 보고자 하였다. 문헌 조사를 통해 아르누보와 아르데코가 공예 및 장식예술과 주얼리 발전에 지대한 영향을 미쳤다는 것을 발견하였고, 이에 본 연구는 아르누보와 아르데코 양식 및 주얼리에 대한 이론적 고찰을 토대로 그들의 양상과 특성을 살펴보고, 현대 주얼리의 실상에 관한 이론적 고찰을 통해 두 양식이 현대 주얼리에 미친 영향을 비교·연구하였다. 또한 두 양식의 주얼리 디자인이 현대 주얼리 디자인에 미친 영향력을 이미지 스케일을 이용하여 알아보고 그 정도를 분석 및 검증하였다. 연구 방법은 기존 문헌 조사를 통한 이론적 고찰과 이미지 스케일을 이용한 사례 분석의 두 가지 방법으로 다음과 같이 진행되었다. 첫째로, 아르누보 양식과 아르데코 양식의 형성배경과 개념 및 정의를 알아보고, 두 양식의 특성 및 전개 과정을 분석하였다. 그리고 그것을 배경으로 두 양식의 영향을 받은 그 시대 주얼리의 양상 및 특성을 고찰하였다. 그 다음으로, 현대 주얼리의 개념 및 유형을 알아보고, 현대 주얼리의 양상 및 특성을 분석하였다. 둘째로, 이미지 스케일을 이용하여 아르누보 주얼리, 아르데코 주얼리, 현대 주얼리의 디자인 스타일 및 성향을 알아보고 두 양식의 디자인이 현대 주얼리 디자인에 미친 영향력의 정도를 분석하고 검증하였다. 마지막으로, 결론에서 이러한 모든 자료들을 토대로 아르누보와 아르데코의 양식과 주얼리가 현대 주얼리 양상에 미친 영향과 특징을 비교·분석하고 정리하여 현대 주얼리의 모습을 재조명하였다. 아르누보 시대에는 디자인 자체에 집중하여 예술성과 창의성에 기초한 미(美)적 가치를 중시한 현상으로 이것은 현대 디자인 발전에 시초가 되었다고 평가되며, 주얼리가 표현의 한계를 깨고 다양한 변화가 가능하다는 인식을 심어주어 다채로운 양상으로 발전할 수 있는 계기가 마련되었음은 물론 전통적인 장식적·재화적 가치의 주얼리 개념을 깨고 범주를 넓히며 그 정체성을 변화시킨 계기가 되었다. 이러한 발전 양상 속에 아르데코 시대에는 기술의 발달로 신소재가 개발되면서 색채 및 디자인의 표현 가능성에 큰 힘을 실어주었고 이러한 양상은 천연 소재뿐만 아니라 인공 소재까지 새로운 소재의 발견과 사용에 애쓰는 현대 주얼리의 시초가 되었다고 볼 수 있다. 또한 아르누보 시대를 출발점으로 표현 영역으로서 예술적 위치를 확보한 주얼리는 예술가들에게 주얼리가 자신의 정신세계와 독창성 표현을 가능하게 하는 가장 좋은 표현 영역이라는 인정을 받으며, 예술적 주얼리의 발전에 근간이 되어 오늘날까지 눈부시게 발전하게 되었다. 이러한 일렬의 현상들은 아르누보와 아르데코가 현대 주얼리에 끼친 중요한 영향으로, 이러한 시대의 변화를 지나오며 주얼리의 소재와 모티브, 기법에 대한 편견이 깨지고 개념이 변화하면서 다양한 가능성을 바탕으로 고가의 상업적 주얼리, 저가의 대량생산 주얼리, 그리고 예술가의 독창적 발상의 주얼리로 그 부류가 나뉘게 되었고, 이러한 주얼리 분류는 현대 주얼리까지 이어져 현재 화인 주얼리, 커스텀 주얼리, 브릿지 주얼리, 아티즌 주얼리 등으로 그 범주가 좀 더 세분화되어지는 토대를 마련하였다. 이미지 스케일을 통한 디자인 성향 분석을 보면, 아르누보 주얼리는 곡선을 중심으로 화려와 심플 모든 방향으로 분포되어 있고, 아르데코 주얼리 또한 직선을 중심으로 화려와 심플 모든 방향으로 분포되어 있음을 볼 수 있다. 이러한 주얼리 디자인의 성향은 각 시대의 사회·문화·역사에 따른 예술 양식 흐름에 기인한 것으로, 아르누보 양식의 특징인 화려한 곡선에서 점점 심플한 곡선으로 변화되었던 시기와 아르데코 양식의 특징인 직선과 지그재그의 기하학적 무늬를 중심으로 화려와 심플을 표현하던 시기가 주얼리 디자인에 그대로 반영된 것으로 볼 수 있다. 아르누보와 아르데코의 주얼리는 극과 극의 스타일로 치우쳐져 있으나 현대는 그 둘의 절충안을 찾은 듯, 극단적인 디자인 보다는 곡선과 직선을 적절히 사용한 완만한 디자인들이 주를 이루며 심플하고 모던한 디자인으로 발전되었다. 본 연구는 아르누보 양식과 아르데코 양식, 그리고 두 양식의 주얼리 특성에 관한 이론적 고찰을 통해 역사적 의의를 집어보고 현대 주얼리 양식에 미친 영향을 분석함으로서, 현대 주얼리가 다양한 종류와 디자인으로 발전하게 된 계기를 재평가하여 현대 주얼리의 이론적 근거를 마련하는 것을 의의로 삼는다. 또한 이미지 스케일을 이용한 디자인 스타일 분석을 통해 아르누보와 아르데코 두 양식의 주얼리 디자인이 현대 주얼리 디자인에 미친 실질적 영향력의 정도를 분석하고자 하였다. 이러한 역사적 특성의 고찰과 실질적 특성의 비교·분석을 통해 현대 주얼리의 근간을 재조명하는 것이 현대 주얼리와 미래 주얼리의 연구 및 발전을 모색하는 길이 될 것으로 기대한다.
