대학 기관레포지터리 이용 개선 방안에 관한 연구

Abstract

정보화 사회에서 연구물을 주로 생산하는 대학은 대학 기관레포지터리를 구축하여 운영하고 있으며 이는 학술커뮤니케이션 환경의 변화와 오픈액세스 운동의 영향으로 연구물의 저자, 이용자, 도서관, 출판사와 유기적인 관계 속에 구체적으로 실현되고 있다. 이러한 대학 기관레포지터리는 대학의 소속 이용자가 연구물을 등록하여 구축하고 오픈액세스 정신에 따라 등록된 자료를 무료로 이용 가능하도록 제공하는 것으로 이용자의 활발한 이용이 가장 중요한 부분이라 할 수 있다. 그러나 대학 기관레포지터리의 이용자인 연구물의 저자와 대학 기관레포지터리 관리자의 이용에 관한 연구는 활발히 진행되고 있는 반면, 최종이용자의 이용에 관한 연구는 적게 이루어져 이에 대한 이해가 부족하다. 최종이용자의 이용은 대학 기관레포지터리의 존재 가치를 결정하며 이용자의 인지율은 대학 기관레포지터리의 지속에 영향을 준다고 할 수 있을 만큼 중요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 국내 대학 기관레포지터리 최종이용자의 이용행태를 규명하고 이를 통해 대학 기관레포지터리 이용 개선 방안을 제안하였다. 이를 위해 문헌연구, 국외 사례 및 국내 현황 조사와 설문조사를 실시하였다. 문헌연구에서는 대학 기관레포지터리의 배경과 개념 및 의의, 이용자의 특징에 대해 조사하였다. 사례 및 현황 조사에서는 대학 기관레포지터리를 크게 둘로 나누어 제공하는 서비스에 대해 조사하였다. 하나는 광의의 의미로 각 대학 기관레포지터리에 구축된 자료를 통합적으로 한 곳에서 제공하는 서비스 제공자였고, 다른 하나는 협의의 의미로 대학의 자체적인 필요에 의해 기관의 모든 자료를 자발적으로 구축하여 운영하는 대학 기관레포지터리였다. 국외 서비스 제공자로 OAIster를, 대학 기관레포지터리로 타이완국립대학교의 레포지터리, 교토대학교의 연구정보 레포지터리, 버지니아폴리테크닉주립대학교의 아카이브와 디지털 도서관, 캘리포니아대학교의 eScholarship, 퀸스랜드대학교의 eSpace를 조사하였다. 국내 서비스 제공자는 dCollection을 활용한 KERIS의 RISS와 KISTI의 OAK를, 대학 기관레포지터리는 KAIST의 KOASAS와 서울대학교의 S-Space, 인하대학교의 DSpace@INHA를 조사하였다. 또한 국내 대학 기관레포지터리 중에서 대학의 자체적인 필요에 의해 자발적으로 운영하고 있는 KOASAS와 S-Space, DSpace@INHA의 최종이용자를 대상으로 대학 기관레포지터리에서 제공하는 서비스의 이용행태를 설문조사하였다. 설문조사는 세 대학의 교원과 대학원생을 대상으로 실시한 결과 총 82명의 대학 기관레포지터리를 인지하거나 이용을 경험한 이용자를 찾았고, 그 중 자료를 이용한 경험이 있는 56명을 대상으로 이용행태를 규명하였다. 설문결과로 규명된 대학 기관레포지터리 최종이용자의 이용행태는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 설문조사 결과 대학 기관레포지터리의 이용자는 대학별 상황에 따라 KOASAS가 가장 많았고, 그 다음으로 DSpace@INHA, S-Space의 순서로 찾을 수 있었다. 인지경로는 대학과 학과의 홍보공문을 통해서가 가장 높았다. 둘째, 자료검색의 목적은 본인 연구에 필요한 자료를 검색하기 위해서가 가장 높았고, 자료검색의 계기는 스스로 필요성을 인지해서 검색하는 경우가 가장 높았다. 셋째, 자료검색의 경로는 외부 웹사이트를 통해 검색하는 경우가 가장 많았고 자료검색의 주체는 연구자 본인이 직접 검색하는 경우가 가장 많았다. 자료검색의 방법은 간략검색, 구글검색과 상세검색, 브라우즈검색의 순서로 이용하고 있었다. 넷째, 대학 기관레포지터리에서 주로 이용하는 자료의 종류는 학술지논문이었고 주로 이용하는 자료의 형태는 PDF였다. 최근에 이용한 자료의 성격은 본인의 전공 주제 분야 자료였고 자료 선택 시 기준으로 삼는 우선순위는 관련성, 최신성, 활용성의 순서로 응답하였다. 다섯째, 대학 기관레포지터리에서 자료를 검색하지 않는 이유는 기존에 사용하던 익숙한 검색장소가 편하기 때문이라는 응답이 가장 높았다. 자료검색시 불편한 점은 인터페이스가 낯설고 불편하다는 점이 가장 높았고 이를 해결하기 위해 도움받지 않고 스스로 해결한다는 이용자가 가장 많았다. 여섯째, 대학 기관레포지터리에서 검색한 자료는 연구에 필요한 참조자료로 이용되는 경우가 가장 많았다. 이용한 자료의 만족도를 분석한 결과 대부분의 요소가 3점 이상으로 전반적으로 최종이용자는 대학 기관레포지터리의 자료이용을 긍정적으로 평가하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 4점 이상의 요소는 없어서 대학 기관레포지터리 자료이용이 만족스럽지는 않은 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 내용을 바탕으로 국내 대학 기관레포지터리 이용 개선 방안을 제안하였다. 첫째, 대학 기관레포지터리의 인지율을 높이기 위해 홍보활동을 강화해야한다. 대내, 대외적인 방안으로 나눠 홍보 대상과 목적을 전략적으로 계획하며 비공식적인 방법을 이용할 수 있다. 또한 담당사서에 의한 정기교육으로 별도의 교육활동을 실시해야 한다. 맞춤교육의 형태로 온라인 튜토리얼을 제공 할 수 있다. 둘째, 대학 기관레포지터리에 접근성을 높이기 위해 접근점을 통합하고 확대하여 제공해야 한다. 대학 기관레포지터리에 한곳에 접근하여 기관 관련된 자료를 검색 할 수 있도록 해야 하며 외부 검색엔진을 통해 대학 기관레포지터리로 유입되어 들어오는 이용자가 많기 때문에 접근점을 확대할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 자료검색을 개선하기 위해 자료등록 및 검색기능을 강화해야한다. 자료를 자동으로 등록하는 기능과 자료 등록시 보상제도, 자료 대리등록과 자료 링크를 활용하여 자료 등록률을 높여야한다. 또한 상세검색에서 세부 검색기능을 추가하고 소속 기관 도서관 자료와 연계된 외부 검색엔진의 자료를 제공해야 한다. 시스템 부가 기능을 추가하고 이용 편의를 위한 서비스를 강화해야 한다. 넷째, 자료이용을 개선하기 위해 자료의 종류와 형태를 다양화하여 풍부한 자료를 확보해야 한다. 또한 출판사와의 저작권 문제를 해결하고 저자의 자료등록 시 원문제공을 권고하는 노력으로 원문제공 자료의 범위를 확대해야 한다. 본 연구는 대학 기관레포지터리 최종이용자의 이용행태에 관한 종합적인 고찰을 통해 대학 기관레포지터리 이용 개선 방안을 제안하였다. 대학 기관레포지터리 이용자의 행태 규명은 앞으로의 대학 기관레포지터리 개발과 관리과정에 중요한 고려대상이 될 것이다. 또한 이용 개선 방안은 대학 기관레포지터리의 인지율과 이용률을 높이는데 실제적인 지침의 역할을 할 수 있을 것이다.;A university institutional repository is established through registration of the study materials done by the users in the university, and it provides the registered materials to be used without charge under the spirit of open access. And the active utilization by users can be referred as the most important part for the development of university institutional repository. Specially, utilization of the end users determines the existence value of university institutional repository and their recognition affects the going concern of university institutional repository. However, the study on the utilization of the end users has been done less than that on the other users, and it still lacks understanding. Thus, the purposes of this study are to investigate the user behavior of the end users of university institutional repository and to provide suggestions for the improvement of usage of university institutional repository. For these purposes of study, literature research, foreign and domestic case studies were made together with the questionnaire surveies. First, literature research was carried. It reviewed the circumstance of scholarly communication and the open access which are the back ground of university institutional repository and found out the concept and the significance of university institutional repository as well as the characteristics of the users. Second, for the foreign case studies, as service provider, it studied OAIster and, as university institutional repository, it investigated services provided by National Taiwan University Repository, Kyoto University Research Information Repository, Digital Library and Archives Virginia Tech University, University of California eScholarship Repository, and University of Queensland eSpace. For the domestic case studies, as service provider, it studied RISS of KERIS that utilized dCollection and OAK of KISTI and, as university institutional repository, it investigated the services provided by KOASA of KAIST, S-Space of Seoul National University and DSpace@INHA of Inha University. Third, questionnaire surveies were made targeting the faculty and graduate students who are the end users of KOSAS, S-Space and DSpace@INHA. The results of the questionnaire surveies showed that the end users of university institutional repository evaluated the use of most of the university institutional repository positively, however, did not seem to be satisfied. On the base of user behavior of the end users which were found out through literature research, case studies and questionnaire surveies, the followings are provided suggestions for the improvement of usage of university institutional repository. First, public relation(PR) activities should be strengthened to enhance the ratio of recognition and utilization. In addition, special educational activities of regular education to be done by the librarian in charge should be accomplished. Second, access points should be integrated and expanded in order to increase the accessibility to university institutional repository. Third, materials registration and investigation should be made to improve the materials investigation. It is necessary to add automatic materials registration system and the function of advanced search. In addition, additional functions of the system should be added. It is necessary to set message board, real time consulting service, feed back window so as to strengthen the services for the convenience of use. Fourth, for the improvement of materials utilization, sufficient materials should be secured through the diversification of kinds and types of the materials. And, the range of full-text supply should be expanded by recommending the authors to provide full-text and resolving the copyright problems. This study intends to provide suggestions for the improvement of usage of university institutional repository through integrated study on the user behavior of the end users of university institutional repository. The analysis of end user of university institutional repository and the investigation of user behavior will be an important target to be considered for the development and management procedure of university institutional repository. In addition, the improvement of usage of university institutional repository will be able to play a practical guiding role to enhance the ratio of recognition and utilization.
