심익운의 詩文學 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to investigate and reveal Shim, Ik-woon's individuality as a poet and literary value by considering his literary character on his poem. For this, as a preliminaryconsiderations, I looked through Shim, Ik-woon's lifetime and his consciousness of poem. And then, discussed in three aspects about a writing material, a turn of expression, and a leitmotif to examine the world of Shim, Ik-woon's works thoroughly. This various approaches on his works will lead to reveal Shim, Ik-woon's poetic inspirations and individuality objectively. In Chapter 2, Shim, Ik-woon's life and his works that are told to this day were examined. Because of his ups and downs of life, his dark side such as loneliness, sadness, frustration, and farewell occupied most of the world of his works. This means that he is a poet who verbalized natural feelings and realized himself from his experience. His self-expression is not just showing his feelings as it is, but rather controling his emotions to express carefully. He placed value on following the customs by acquiring the principle and system of poem. This attitude is based on his confidence that he is a poet who shows his pursuit and expresses the best aesthetic value only. In Chapter 3, I analysed Shim, Ik-woon's poetical compositions in general. His poem is basically based on his concept that poem must be a self-expression. Therefore he judged that discovering poem materials from the experiences is the most effective way to express himself. Shim, Ik-woon invented various methods of expression to express his motif on his own terms. In this article, I discussed in three different methods of expression. The first method is to express his whole feelings directly through his voice. Direct and outspoken self-expression can be the art of words and give a heartwarming feelings because it shows everything just the way it is. The second method is the indirect expression that project his feelings onto the external object. The projection can control the intensity of feelings and subjectivity. It can also overcome the limitations of the direct expression by using images and voices of the external objects. The third one is the expression by songs that uses popular appeal of songs to move feelings. His song expression affected by popular songs is the new creation to tell his story in his own way by picking out the value of "songs". The leitmotif that Shim, Ik-woon tried to show through his poem can be founded from the analysis of his life and it shows creativity to express the motif. He did not imitate "the world should be", he just express "the world in real". This attitude embraced his dark feelings like farewell, frustration, ordeal, and loneliness in his literary works. And his experience of alienation formed the determining cause of expressing his critical consciousness freely through the poem. From this analysis in Chapter 3, I can tell that Shim, Ik-woon was a poet who had an ability to express the leitmotif that is based on himself with feeling. In Chapter 4, I investigated the literary value and signification of Shim, Ik-woon's poet. Shim, Ik-woon's Poetry was far away from the social value of the time that emphasized on the edification and pursuit of truth. He emphasized on the literature itself and placed a high value on the creativity that can convey feelings everyone can be sympathized. In short, he established his sense of identity as a language artist who expressed the pleasure through poetry and emphasized on pleasurable function of poetry that can make feel human emotions. Shim. Ik-woon's feeling expression was coming from not only his sense of identity, but also his awareness that he was a neglected class of poet in 18th century. He spent a lot of time as a neglected intellectual and missed the opportunity for earnings and success, naturally focused on himself and expressed delicate feelings. In this article, I pointed that his attitude was also affected by critics of Kyungreoung faction that was prevalent among Chosun intellectuals at that time, Shim, Ik-woon's pursuit was not on the edification and convey the truth through the poetry, but on the pleasurable function of literature to convey feelings. Therefore the achievement of Shim, Ik-woon's poetry is the creation to express that can move the hearts of readers. Studies found that there were not only a sense of loss and alienation, but also various factors of poets in the 18th century neglected intellectual's poetry. Considering that the alienation of the neglected intellectual gave them the opportunity to broaden their literary attainments and creative capability, we need to examine the world of the neglected intellectual's works. This article is written as a small attempt to anticipate new possibilities about the neglected intellectual's literature.;이 논문은 심익운의 시를 논의의 대상으로 삼아 심익운 한시의 문학적 성격을 고찰함으로써 심익운이 가진 시인으로서의 개성과 그가 지은 시작품의 문학적 가치를 규명하는 데에 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 심익운의 생애와 그의 시 의식을 검토한 후 심익운 한시의 작품 세계를 보다 면밀하게 분석하고자 소재, 표현방식, 주제의식의 측면으로 나누어 논의를 전개하였다. 다양한 관점으로 작품에 접근하는 이 같은 과정을 통하여 심익운의 시적 성취와개성을 객관적으로 드러낼 것이라 예상하였다. Ⅱ장에서는 먼저 심익운의 생애와 현전하는 시작품의 실태를 파악하였다.심익운은 부침浮沈을 거듭하는 삶을 산 탓에 외로움, 슬픔, 좌절, 이별 등의 어두운 일면이 작품 세계의 대부분을 차지하고 있다. 이것은 곧 경험에서 촉발한 자연스러운 감정유발을 언어화하는, 현실에 닿은 자기를 충실하게 구현해내는 시인이었음을 의미하는 것이다. 그런데 그의 자기표현은 마음에 있는 것을 죄다 드러내어서 말하는 토로吐露를 지양하고 감정의 절제를 중시했으며 창작 이후에 다시 한 번 자기만의 여과 장치로 작품을 선選하는신중한 표현이었다. 選의 기준은 시의 체제와 원칙을 습득해 법도를 지키는 작품, 심력心力으로 쓴 진솔하고 핍진한 표현에 가치를 두고 이루어졌으며 시를 선하는 태도는 자기의 추구와 미적 기준의 최상만을 선보인다는 시인으로서의 자신감을 바탕에 두고 있는 것이다. Ⅲ장에서는 심익운 시문학 작품의 전반을 분석하였다. 그의 시 작품은 기본적으로 문학이 곧 진실한 자기표현이어야 한다는 개념과 인식에 바탕을 두고 있다. 그러므로 경험한 소재와 내용에서 소재 취택의 범위를 구성하는 것이 자신의 본의를 가장 효과적으로 작품화할 수 있는 방향이라고 판단하였던 것이다. 심익운은 주제를 표현해내기 위해 본인의 시작 의도에 따라 여러 구현방식을 모색하였다. 본고에서는 세 가지의 구현방식을 특징으로 삼아 논의하였다. 첫 번째는 완전한 자기 서정을 자기의 목소리로 직접 표출하는 방식이다. 심익운의 목소리는 감정의 긴장을 놓지 않는 범위 안에서 마음에 품은 바를 절실하게 드러내었기 때문에 직접 표출이 언어예술로써 감동을 전달할 수 있는 하나의 표현방식이 될 수 있었다. 두 번째는 외적 대상에게로 자신을 투사하여 감정을 간접적으로 표출하는 방식이다. 투사는 지나친 주관을 경계하고 감정의 정도를 조절하려는 목적을 담고 있었으며 또한 직접표현이 가진 한계를 대상의 이미지나 목소리를 활용함으로써 해소할 수 있다. 세 번째는 노래의 서정을 이용한 표출 방식으로 노래의 대중적 서정을 공략하여 보편적 내면의 감응을 의도한 표현 방식이다. 민간의 노래로부터 영향을 받은 그의 가곡 창작은 ‘노래’라는 장르가 가진 특징과 가치를 파악하여 자기의 이야기를 담은 새로운 노래로의 창작이었다. 심익운이 시를 통해 나타내고자 했던 주제는 그의 생애와 밀착한 분석을 통해 주제의식 표출의 독창성을 찾을 수 있다. ‘있어야 할 세계’를 모방하지 않고 ‘현실’에 닿은 자기를 충실하게 구현한다는 그의 지향은 이별, 좌절, 시련, 외로움에 처한 자신의 감정 또한 문학작품 안에서 포용할 수 있도록 하였다. 또한 소외의 경험은 시를 통해 자유롭게 자신의 비판의식을 표출하게 된 결정적 계기가 되었음을 확인할 수 있다. 이와 같은 3장에서의 분석을 통해 심익운은 자기를 바탕으로 한 작품의 주제를 감동 깊게 표현해내는 역량을 지닌 시인으로 밝혀낼 수 있다. Ⅳ장에서는 심익운 시문학이 가진 문학적 가치와 의미를 규명해보고자 하였다. 심익운의 시문학은 교화와 진리의 전달을 중시하는 당대의 사회적 가치로부터는 멀리 떨어져 있다. 그의 추구는 문학 자체에 있었으며 모든 인간이 공감하는 정서를 전달할 수 있는 창작에 가치를 두었다. 요컨대 그는 시를 통한 즐거움을 전달하는 언어예술가로서의 자의식을 확립하고 자신이 표현한 희로애락의 정서로 독자들의 공감을 이끌 수 있는 문학이 가진 쾌락적 기능을 중시하였다. 한편 심익운의 감정 표출은 자의식에서 비롯된 것이기도 하지만 18세기 시인층의 다변화로 인한 소외된 잉여지식인이라는 존재 기반으로부터 기인한 것이기도 하다. 심익운은 잉여지식인으로 오랜 시간을 보내면서 정치·경제적 이득에 노력을 쏟을 기회를 상실하고 점차 내면으로 침잠해 들어가며 다양한 감정에 예민하게 반응하는 작품을 양산하는 경향을 보이게 되었던 것이다. 본고에서는 이러한 그의 경향을 당시 조선 지식인들 사이에 성행하였던 경릉파의 비평에서도 일정 영향을 받은 것으로 지적하기도 하였다. 심익운은 문학작품의 효용을 인간 보편의 정서 전달에 두고 언어예술의 쾌락적 기능에 가치를 두고 있었다. 그러므로 독자들의 공감에 호소할 수 있는 감동적인 작품의 창작은 심익운 시문학의 주요한 공로로 꼽을 수 있다. 본 연구를 통해서 18세기 잉여지식인들의 시에는 상실감과 소외감뿐 아니라 작가를 둘러싼 생애의 다양한 요소들이 산재해 있음을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 또한 잉여지식인들이 겪은 소외와 고립이 오히려 문학적 영역을 넓히고 창작 수준의 깊이를 더해갈 수 있는 기회였다는 점을 고려한다면 잉여지식인군의 문학 작품에 대한 적극적인 접근방법을 통해 좀 더 그들의 작품 세계를 추적해 볼 필요가 있을 것이다. 본고는 그들의 문학이 한국 문학사에 서 가질 수 있는 문학적 가치와 새로운 가능성을 예측해 본 작은 시도로 쓰여진 것이다.
