섬유 조형으로 표현한 자화상 연구

Abstract

인간은 누구나 끊임없는 자아 탐구를 통해 자신의 정체성을 확립해 나간다. 이것은 인간이 가지고 있는 본능적인 자기애가 뒷받침되고 있기 때문이다. 자기애란 외적인 아름다움뿐 아니라 인생의 지속적이고 만족된 삶을 위한 본능적인 애착을 의미한다. 뿐만 아니라 인간은 사회적인 동물이기 때문에 자기 존재를 타인에게 표현하고 싶어 하며, 타인에게 인정받고 싶어 하는 욕구를 가지고 있다. 이러한 욕구로 인해 타인에 비추어 지는 나의 모습을 중요시 한 채, 진정한 자신의 모습을 잃어버리기도 한다. 본 연구자는 잃어버린 자아를 찾고, 본래 가지고 있었던 근원적인 자아를 대면함으로써 자신의 내면세계를 이해해 보고자 한다. 연구자의 잃어버린 자아는 타인의 시선을 의식하면서부터 본인의 솔직한 감정을 감추어 버림으로써 정체성을 잃어버린 자아를 말한다. 자아를 찾는 방법은 조형 활동을 통해 이루어진다. 본인의 자화상을 통해 나를 관찰하고, 연구과정을 통해 내면 깊숙하게 자리 잡고 있었던 진정한 나의 모습을 조형화 하고자 한다. 본 연구의 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 주제표현에 대한 연구에서는 자화상을 통한 내적 감정의 표현에 대해 연구해본다. 다양한 작가들의 구체적인 작품 연구를 통하여 작업을 통한 그들의 내면세계를 자화상으로 어떻게 표현하고 있는지 살펴보고, 각각의 표현 주제에 대한 요소를 비교, 분석한다. 둘째, 주제 표현을 위한 기법적 연구에서는 재현과 변형에 의한 표현에 대해 연구한 후 어떻게 조형화 하였는지 살펴본다. 섬유예술 표현기법 중 머신스티치(machine stitch) 기법에 대해 연구한다. 머신스티치를 이용한 섬유조형 작품들을 찾아 머신스티치의 조형적 가능성에 대해 살펴보고, 내면세계를 조형화 하는 데에 있어 머신스티치를 효과적으로 이용할 수 있는 방법에 대해 연구해 본다. 본 논문을 통하여 근원적인 자아와의 대면을 통해 잃어버린 정체성을 찾고, 불안정한 감정으로부터 치유의 과정을 갖는데 중점을 둔다. ‘나는 누구인가?’라는 자아의 정체성을 찾는 탐구의 과정을 통해 불안한 내면의 심리를 겉으로 드러냄으로서 좀 더 솔직한 감정표현에 다가서고자 한다. 자아의 솔직한 감정표현의 실천방식은 조형 활동을 통해 이루어지며, 내면심리를 조형화 하는 작업을 통해 본 연구자의 조형관 확립에 발판을 마련하고자 한다.;Human beings establish his or her identity through a lifetime of self-inquiry. At the bottom of such phenomenon is the narcissistic instinct that every person has. Narcissism, or self-love, is an instinctive desire to pursue not just the exterior beauty but also a sustainable and satisfying life as a human being. Because people are fundamentally a social being, they also have an inner desire to express themselves and be acknowledged by others. In the process of concentrating on how one is perceived by others, a person sometime loses her true self, her true identity. The objective of this thesis is finding the lost identity and understanding a person's inner world by coming face-to-face with the fundamental self. This journey of self searching takes place through the works of formative arts. In the process of creating self portraits of myself, I examined and rediscovered my true self from the bottom of the inner world. The 'Research on the Possibility of the Subject Expression' part of this thesis focuses on how inner emotions can be expressed through self portraits. Numerous self portraits of artists from various backgrounds are presented to examine how the artists' inner world was expressed in their works, and the elements of their methods and techniques are compared and analyzed. The 'Research on the Techniques Used for the Subject Expression' part of this thesis focuses on 'reproductions' and 'alterations' as key ingredients in the formative expressions of oneself. The research examines how machine stitches were used in textile formative arts and explores its possibility as a technique for formative arts and how an artist can use the technique in the most effective manner. The research seeks to come to face-to-face with the fundamental self, rediscover the lost identity, and find healing from the unstability of emotions. In the process of self exploration, by asking "who am I?", I laid open my anxious inner mentality and became more honest with my emotional expression. I was able to achieve this through the works of formative arts and hope to lay the foundation for my formative viewpoints.
