J. Brahms의 Violin Sonata No.1 in G Major, Op.78에 관한 연구

Abstract

요하네스 브람스 (Johannes Brahms 1833-1897)는 낭만주의의 화려한 시대에 있어서 고전파 음악의 전통을 지키는 19세기 신고전주의를 대표하는 작곡가이다. 그는 고전주의 형식 위에 브람스만의 서정적이고 낭만적인 풍부한 정감을 혼합시켜 동시대의 음악적 흐름에 동요하지 않고 독자적인 세계를 구축 하였다. 독일의 ‘3대 B’(Bach, Beethoven, Brahms)의 한 사람이라고 칭송 받는 그는 한 개의 음도 소홀하게 하지 않는 음악가이며 노력가로써 절대음악을 향한 건축적 사고는 그의 작품 속에서 잘 나타나 있다. 그의 창작 시기는 모두 넷으로 나누어진다. 제 3시기인 1876-1890년에 작곡된 그의 작품에서는 고전주의 양식과 낭만성의 융합이 확립 되었으며, 그가 남긴 3곡의 바이올린 소나타 모두 이 시기에 속한다. 브람스의 「바이올린 소나타 제 1번, 작품78」은 총 3악장으로 구성되었으며 1악장은 소나타 형식(sonata-allegro form), 2악장은 3부 형식(ternary form), 3악장은 론도 형식(rondo form)으로 고전주의의 소나타 형식을 따르고 있다. 각 주제의 선율은 우아하고 서정적으로 진행되어 브람스의 낭만성을 엿볼 수 있으며, 각 악장에서 나타나는 리듬의 확대와 축소는 상호간의 통일성과 유기 성을 부여하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 브람스의 「바이올린 소나타 제 1번, 작품78」을 고찰 해 본다.;Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), the great composer of the Romantic era who is well known to us for its expanding melody lines, wrote three Sonatas for Violin and Piano. There are early evidences that he wrote Sonatas for the violin as early as 1853 which he performed them privately but they did not come into print. The first sonata that came into print is the one in G Major, Op.78. This Sonata was composed right after the completion of his Violin Concerto and his first Symphony. This work was written for his close friend J. Joachim, the great violinist to whom Brahms dedicated his monumental Violin Concerto. Just like the Violin Concerto, when the listener hears this work, one can immediately hear the lyrical melodic lines, the long phrases instead of the shorter motives of his earlier compositions. The themes are expanded to a great length, in other words it is a work where the violin is above all a singing instrument. In this Sonata, the dotted rhythm of the opening melody is a common factor in the reminder movements. The middle section of the second movement and all of the third movement is dominated by this dotted rhythm. This Sonata is in three movements. The first movement is in “Sonata form” with two beautiful melodies. It is played much slower than its “Vivace” tempo marking, probably because of the “man non troppo” indication. The second movement is in ternary form, with a heavy and passionate main theme played also in double stops. The third movement takes a direct quotation for his Regenlied (Rain Song) Op.59/3. Played in the opening of this movement, the melody of this song was already expanded greatly in the second movement. This Sonata is written in the classical “Sonata form”, but written only in the style of Brahms with long lyrical melodies, and going further by expanding it even more. This Sonata is truly a masterpiece of the Romantic era and a great work to be studied and performed by all of us.
