인터랙티브 타이포그래피를 이용한 표현연구

Abstract

디지털 매체의 등장 이후로 다양한 매체들은 쉽게 어우러져 표현될 뿐만 아니라 새로운 커뮤니케이션의 공간을 창조해왔다. ‘상호작용’ 이라는 개념의 도입은 보다 능동적인 커뮤니케이션 방법을 제안한다는 점에서 그 의의를 갖는다. 이전까지 수용자로서만 작용되었던 참여자는 상호작용 성을 바탕으로 해당 콘텐츠 를 조작하고 변화시키는 영향력을 발휘할 수 있게 되었고, 이러한 참여 과정에서 참여자(관객)와 해당 콘텐츠(작품), 그리고 그 설계자(작가) 간의 양방향 교류가 이루어진다. 이러한 동향은 새로운 예술 형식을 창조하고 그 수용의 패러다임을 변화시키고 있다. 전통적으로 활판인쇄를 의미하는 용어였던 타이포그래피 는 보다 창조적인 시각언어로서 그 표현영역을 확장해가고 있으며, 미디어의 변화와 함께 그 형상성은 다양성을 더해가고 있다. 본 연구는 인터랙티브 타이포그래피 를 기반으로 문학적 콘텐츠 를 재해석 및 표현을 개발하고 새로운 소통에의 가능성을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본문에서는 인터랙티브 타이포그래피 의 맥락적 인식을 위해 미디어의 변화에 따른 실험적 타이포그래피 영역의 형상 성 확장적 측면을 살펴보았다. 그리고 이와 관련하여, 다양한 매 채 를 통해 실험적 타이포그래피 를 구현한 작가를 선정, 조사 및 대표작품을 분석하였다. 또한 디지털 미디어의 등장과 함께 나타난 웹 아트를 미디어의 상호작용적 측면과 함께 살펴보고 이와 관련하여 다양한 인터랙션 과 디지털 네러티브 를 기획한 작가를 선정, 조사 및 대표작품을 분석하였다. 본 연구작품 ‘The Memory of LOVE'는 위의 문헌연구들을 바탕으로 에밀리디킨슨(Emily Dickinson, 1830~1886)의 사랑을 주제로 한 시들의 감성과 은유를 재해석하여 인터랙티브 타이포그래피 를 통해 표현하였다. 기존 시의 단 방향적인 정보전달에서 벗어나, 특정 시어와 그 시어를 포함한 시를 매개로 참여자의 제어에 의해 작품을 감상하고 직접 참여하여 자신만의 고유한 콘텐츠 를 제작 가능하도록 한 시스템을 기획 및 제작하였다. 본 연구작품은 웹 아트형식을 취하는 Ver.1과 인터랙티브 인스톨레이션의 형식으로 구현한 Ver.2로 나뉘어 진행되었으며, 이를 통해 각 형식에 맞추어 적절한 인터랙션 과 함께 진행되는 스토리텔링 을 연구하였다. Ver.1에서는 연구자가 선택한 시어를 반영하여 제작한 인터랙티브 타이포그래피 표현들을 참여자는 마우스와 키보드제어를 통해 감상 및 참여할 수 있다. 그리고 Ver.1에서 표현한 시어들 중 'Eternity'의 표현을 독립시켜, 에밀리디킨슨 의 시에 쓰인 시어들을 참여자의 재조합에 의해 자신의 콘텐츠 를 제작해보는 경험을 끌어내는 시스템을 제작하였다. 본 연구작품을 통해, 연구자의 작품연구가 참여자에게 단지 흥미로움만을 이끌어내는 것이 아니라, 19세기의 위대한 업적을 남기었던 시인과 소통하고 이를 기반으로 자신의 콘텐츠 를 제작해보는 과정 속에서 시인의 감성을 보다 가까이 공감하는 새로운 경험을 이끌어낼 수 있을 것이라는 측면에서 본 연구의 의의를 가질 수 있다.;With the approval of digital media, various mediums have become harmonized for better expressions and created new space. It has the significance in that the adoption of new concept, ‘interaction’, can offer the more active communication methods. Participants who had accepted become to exercise one’s influence as controlling and changing contents. In this course, participants make the mutual exchange among the participant (audience), contents (work), and the planner (artist), furthermore this trend creates the new art form. Even though typography has been the term that means ‘type printing’ traditionally, began to expand the expression area as a visual language and adds the variation in the shape with the media changes. This thesis tries to reinterpret the literary contents, develop expressions based on interactive typography and offer possibilities in new communication. For this, the thesis examines expanded aspects of visual formation with experimental typography based on media changes for understanding context of interactive typography. Also related to this, I did research on several artists who visualized experimental typography through various media and analyzed their pieces. In addition, I researched web art that emerged with the approval of digital media based on interaction aspects, and related with them, I also chose and searched artists who planned digital narratives with various interactions and analyzed their pieces. This art work, ‘The Memory of LOVE’, reinterpreted the emotion and metaphor in Emily Dickinson’s poetry on Love and expressed them through interactive typography based on documentary research. Beyond the existing poetry that offers information in one-way, I planned and made the system that allows participants to appreciate and control the work based on particular poetic words and poems involving them. The study made progressed dividing into Ver.1 as a Web Art and Ver.2 as an interactive installation, and based on this, I studied proper interaction that well adjusted to each forms of storytelling. The thesis holds the meaningful significance in that it can lead not only to participants’ interest but also new experiences that will help people to share the poet’s emotions closely and make their own contents based on communication with the poet who had made a great achievement in the 19th century.
