승전무 통영검무와 통영북춤에 내재된 미적 특징 연구

Abstract

형태를 헤아릴 수 없는 문화적 소산으로서 역사상 또는 예술상 가치가 높은 것을 무형문화재라 한다. 무용은 그 중 무형문화재에 속하는 분야로서『승 전무』는 중요무형문화재 제21호로 지정된 민속무용이다. 승 전무는 오랜 역사적 배경을 통해 정리되고 전승된 한국 전통무용으로 지금까지 전승된 경로와 계보가 정확하고, 당초 북춤만 문화재로 지정되었으나 1987년 검무도 추가 지정되어 지금은 합 연으로 서의 승전무가 보존되어 오고 있다. 그러나 승 전무와 같은 전통무용은 우리 민족의 정서에서 비롯된 춤임에도 불구하고 현 사회에서 잊혀져 가고 있다. 이는 개화기 이후 공연예술로 재정비된 전통무용이 자연발생적인 마당 춤에서 무대 무용으로 변화함에 따라 일반 대중과의 거리감이 생기게 되어 대중적 공감대를 이루지 못하였기 때문이다. 본 연구는 임진왜란이라는 역사적 배경을 갖고 문화적 예술성이 높은 승 전무 춤사위에 내재된 예술적 아름다움의 본질을 한국 춤의 미적 특성의 관점에서 통영검무와 통영북춤 각각의 춤사위에 내재된 미적 요소를 찾아보았다. 승 전무의 생성배경과 변천과정에 대해 정리하고, 승 전무 영상 자료와 고증된 문헌을 중심으로 연구하였으며 승 전무 구성 요소인 통영검무와 통영북춤 각각의 춤사위 분석을 통해 춤사위에 나타난 미적 특징을 찾는데 연구의 목적을 두었다. 첫째, 승 전무는 우아하고 고결한 무 태(舞態)와 춤 가락을 지니고 있으며, 구성 면에 있어서도 정돈되어 조화된 짜임새와 전통성을 간직하고 있다. 주로 잦은 사위와 극히 세련된 겨드랑사위가 많은 내향적인 춤으로서, 곱고 우아할 뿐 아니라 연결이 자연스러워 외적 형식미와 내적 흥취 성을 고루 지니고 있는 예술적인 무용이다. 둘째, 승 전무는 여성 특유의 우아함과 더불어 진취적이면서 발랄하고 역동적인 움직임과 함께 리듬이 어우러져있다. 또한 내면적 의식과 역사성이 잘 함축되어 있어, 민속무용의 미적 요소인 신명, 역동성의 미와 정•중•동의 미를 춤사위마다 두루 갖추고 있다는 사실을 알 수 있다. 셋째 북춤과 검무는 모두 한 삼을 끼고 추는 춤사위가 있지만, 북춤의 사위는 북을 치거나 한 삼을 날리는 동작에 의해 화려함을 느낄 수 있다. 반면 검무는 한 삼을 어루만지듯 유연한 손놀림으로 이루어지고, 칼춤의 부드러운 곡선과 날카로운 역동성을 같은 공간에 같이 공유하면서 다소곳하고 정숙한 여성의 우아함이 배어있다. 이렇듯 승 전무는 한국전통무용의 미적 특징인 신명, 정•중•동, 역동성이 내향적 ㆍ 외향적으로 표현되며, 경쾌한 중량감의 전통성과 한국 전통 춤의 맛인 곱고 관능적이며 우아함의 멋을 그대로 지니고 있는 귀중한 무형문화재이다. 이로써 본 연구는 유서 깊은 역사성과 높은 예술성을 포함하고 있는 승 전무의 미적 특징을 살펴봄으로써 우리 전통무용으로서 승 전무의 가치를 통해 다문화적인 시대에 한국전통예술의 재인식을 통하여 한국전통문화를 보존하고 그 가치를 높일 수 있는 계기를 마련하고자 한다.;Intangible cultural asset is that having high value in history or in arts as a cultural product which cannot measure its form. Dance is a field belonging to intangible cultural asset and ‘Seungjeonmu’ is a folk dance designated as the 21st major intangible cultural asset. It is a Korean traditional dance which is arranged and succeeded through long historical background and its succeeded path and genealogy are correct. Initially, only drum dance was designated as a cultural asset but sword dance was also designated in 1987, and at present, 'Seungjeonmu' as joint performance has been reserved. Though traditional dance like Seungjeonmu was resulted in Korean people's emotion, however, it has been forgotten gradually from current society. This is because traditional dance which was re-equipped as performance arts after the time of enlightenment changed from naturally caused floor dance to stage dance, which caused a distance with the public, and therefore it has not achieved popular bond of sympathy. This study searched aesthetic elements indwelling in each dance of Tongyoung Sword Dance and Tongyoung Drum Dance in aspect of Korean dance's aesthetic feature for arts beauty indwelling in high cultural art, Seungjeonmu with historical background of Imjinwaeran. Purposes of this study are to arrange forming background and changing process of Seungjeonmu, to research focusing on video data and historically proved documents of Seungjeonmu, and to find aesthetic feature indwelling in the dance through analysis of Tongyoung Sword Dance and Tongyoung Drum Dance which are components of Seungjeonmu. First, Seungjeonmu has elegant and noble dancing style and dancing performance, and also has well-harmonized structure and traditionality in its composition. It is an artistic dance having external beauty of form and internal excitement since it is beautiful & elegant and has natural movement connection as introvert dance mainly having frequent motions and ultimately trained underarm motions. Second, Seungjeonmu is harmonized with rhythm in addition to progressive, lively, and dynamic movements as well as unique women' elegance. Also, it is indicated that it implies internal consciousness and historicity and equips the beauty of excitement, dynamics, movement during still which is an aesthetic elements of folk dance for each dance motions. Third, both of drum dance and sword dance have dance motions to dance with Hansam, but the motion of drum dance shows a magnificence by a motion of beating drum or waving Hansam. While sword dance shows smooth hands motion like stroking Hansam, and has modest and chaste women' elegance by sharing soft curve and sharp dynamics of sword dance to same space. Like above, Seungjeonmu expresses excitement, movement during still, and dynamics of Korean traditional dance's aesthetic feature internally and externally, and is an important intangible cultural asset having light weight of traditionality and beautiful, sensual, and elegant style which is the one of Korean traditional dance. Therefore, this study intends to prepare a chance to reserve Korean traditional culture and to raise its value through the value of Seungjeonmu as Korean traditional dance and through re-recognition of Korean traditional arts in multi-cultural era by searching aesthetic feature fo Seungjeonmu containing historicity and high artistry.
