Abstract

The Chuan-Qi (傳奇) , written by Pei-Xing (裴?) is the representative works in the middle -late Tang Dynasty. As we know in this Title, The ≪Chuan-Qi(傳奇)≫ is composed of fantastic, mysterious stories, and seriously connected with The Taoism. Through the middleㆍlate Tang Dynasty, the Song Dynasty, The ≪Chuan-Qi≫ had been appreciated and prevailed. Therefore, The ≪Chum-Qi≫ as private work, was became a general name on fiction of Tang Dynasty. Despite The ≪Chum-Qi≫ is important work, but there has been no intensive studies and exegesis. Thus, in this paper, I tried to clarify the achievement degree of The ≪Chum-Qi≫ and Tang Chuan-Qi (唐傳奇). Especially, Tang Chuan-Qi has been treated as immature fiction concerning plot, character. Therefore, in this paper, I concentrated on recognizing Tang Chuan-Qi as true value. And in this course of discussion, I applied The Taoist theory of Chiao Ritual (齋醮儀禮) and The Psychoanalysis by C.G. Jung. This paper includes two chapters. The chapter one is fundamental study on (Chuan-Qi) . In the chapter two, I translated whole collections into modem language. In the first section, according as I examined the lifetime of Pei-Xing, it could be seen that he was lost in The Taoism. In this section, I concentrated on discussing Xing Juan (行卷) as background of The Tang Chuan-Qi. So, it could be seen that Xing Juan has no influence upon The Tang Chuan-Qi. I could studied that The Taoism reflected to ((Chuan-Qi) . And I tried to analyze plot and character of The ((Chuan-Qi) . In this course of discussion, it would be used of new methodology. Because this paper is a experimental study. Thus, it could be c o d i e d that the limitation of The Tang Chuan-Qi, and The (Chuan-Qi) turned into distinguishing feature of them. At last, the author described that The (Chuan-Qi) has influence to the later Chinese fiction and drama. In chapter two, the author tried to translate and annotate The (Chuan-Qi) by using The ((Pei-Xing Chuan-Qi) by Zhou Ling Jia (周楞伽). As a conclusion, the present thesis takes two emphasis. The first, I tried to recognize true value of The ((Chuan-Qi) , and to analisys The Tang Chuan-Qi by using new methodology. The socond, since a fundemental translation is a basic element of every studies, the author could be translate and annotate The ≪Chuan-Qi≫;裴刑의 《傳奇》는 中·晩唐時期의 대표적인 傳寄集이다. 그 제목에서 알 수 있듯이 《傳奇》는 흥미롭고도 기이한 이야기들을 주된 내용으로 하고 있으며 그 기저에는 唐代의 國敎였던 道敎사상이 깔려 있다. 또한 《傳奇》는 中·晩唐을 지나 宋代 이후로도 계속 탐독되고 항간에 유행되어져서 급기야 《傳奇》라는 개별 작품이름이 唐代 文言小說을 통칭하는 쟝르적 개념이 됨에 이르렀다. 하지만 《傳奇》가 中國小說史에 있어 이처럼 중요한 작품임에도 불구하고 현실적으로 《傳奇》 전반에 대한 심도있는 연구는 아직 이루어져 있지 않은 실정이며 《傳寄》 全篇에 대한 國譯도 시행되어 있지 않다. 더욱이 國內에서의 《傳奇》에 대한 연구는 全無하다고 하겠다. 그리하여 本稿에서는 《傳寄》가 지닌 진정한 가치를 인식하고 나아가 《傳奇》를 포함한 唐 傳奇 자체에 대해 새로운 시각을 마련하고자 하는 데에서 논의를 출발시켰다. 특히 腐 傳奇의 경우는 構成이나 人物방면에 있어서 아직 완전한 형태를 갖추지 못한, 미숙한 단계의 소설이라는 평가가 지배적이었는데 本稿에서는 道敎의 齋醮儀禮와 分析 心理學의 관점을 운용하여 唐 傳奇의 소설적 내면구조를 심층적으로 인식하는데에 노력을 기울였다. 本稿의 논의는 크게 두 부분으로 나뉘어진다. 우선 第Ⅰ部는 《傳奇》 전반에 대해 분석한 試論 부분으로 구성되고 第Ⅱ部는 《傳奇》 全篇을 國譯하고 註釋한 부분에 해당된다. 第Ⅰ部에서는 《傳奇》의 작자인 裴刑의 生涯와 思想에 대해 고찰하여 그가 道敎와 긴밀한 관계에 있는 인물이었음을 추론하였다. 그리고 唐 傳奇의 창작배경을 거론할 때마다 항상 제기되는 行卷과의 관계에 대해 집중적으로 논구하여 《傳奇》가 行卷의 所産이 아님을 밝혔다. 또한 《傳奇》의 思想的 토대라 할 수 있는 道敎를 주목하여 道敎가 과연 어떠한 형태로 《傳奇》 속에 수용되어있는지를 살펴보았다. 다음으로 《傳奇》의 構成과 人物에 대한 분석을 시행하였는데 여기에서는 앞서 말한 두 가지 관점이 신중하게 援用되었다. 그 결과 이제까지 唐 傳奇의 구조적인 한계라고 인식되었던 점들이 오히려 서구소설과 구별되는, 唐 傳奇만이 갖는 특성임을 확인할 수 있게 되었다. 마지막으로는 《傳奇》가 後代의 小說과 戱曲에 끼친 影響에 대해 논급하며 지금까지의 논의들을 마무리하였다. 第Ⅱ部에서는 먼저 譯註의 원칙에 대한 간단한 제시가 있은 다음 《傳奇》 全篇에 대한 완전한 國譯과 註釋이 이루어졌다. 참고로 本稿에서는 周楞伽가 輯注한 《裴刑傳奇》를 藍本으로 삼았음을 밝혀둔다. 정리하자면 本稿의 취지는 두 가지로 요약되어진다. 첫째, 本稿에서는 《傳奇》의 내재적 의미를 다시 파악하고 나아가 唐 傳奇에 대한 새로운 차원에서의 인식을 시도한 것이다. 그리고 둘째로는 어떤 경우에 있어서나 原典에 대한 철저한 독해가 연구의 기본이 된다는 견해에 입각하여 《傳奇》 全篇에 대한 譯註를 시행한 것이라 하겠다.
