고등학생들의 과학 교과목 선택에 미치는 영향 분석

Abstract

이 연구의 목적은 제7차 교육과정에서 학생들이 지구과학 과목을 선택하는 경향에 대해 알아보고자하는데 있다. 특히, 다른 과목에 비해 지구과학을 선택하는 주된 요인을 알 수 있다. 총 6개 학교의 총 716명 학생들을 대상으로 했다. 선행 연구를 통해 설문지가 개발되었고, 설문지에는 개인적 요소, 사회적 요소, 교육적 요소를 포함했다. 이 연구에서는 SPSS 프로그램을 통해 빈도분석, 교차분석, 일원분산분석, 사후검증 방법으로 Scheffe's multiple range test를 사용했다. 과학 과목을 선택하는데 있어 중요한 요소를 분석한 결과 첫째, 흥미로운 과목을 선택하는데 가장 중요한 요소는 흥미, 그리고 점수, 직업 요인이었다. 두 번째로, 자신있는 과목을 선택하는데 가장 중요한 요소는 점수, 흥미, 쉽다 요인 순으로 중요하다고 생각했다. 셋째, 내신 과목으로 과학 과목을 선택할 때, 흥미 요소를 가장 중요하다고 했다. 그 다음으로는 점수와 쉽다 요인이었다. 넷째, 수능에서 과학 과목을 선택할 때에는 점수 요인에 가장 중요했고, 그 다음으로는 흥미, 쉽다 요소였다. 4과목 중에 내신 수강 과목으로 지구과학 과목을 선택한 학생들은 452명이었고, 172명의 학생들은 지구과학 과목을 선택하지 않았다. 지구과학을 선택한 이유 중 52.1%가 ‘학교에서 의무로 지정해서’였고, 그 다음으로는 ‘재미있어서’였고 그 비율은 19.0%, '쉬워서'라고 답한 학생들은 13.2%였다. 수능 응시 예정 과목으로 지구과학 과목을 선택한 학생들은 305명이었다. 선택한 주된 이유는‘쉬워서’였고 13.2%였다. 그 다음으로는‘점수가 잘 나와서’로 21.9%,‘타 과목보다 나아서’라는 답변은 10.4%였다. 수능 응시 예정 과목으로 지구과학 과목을 선택하지 않은 학생들은 289명이었다. 주된 이유는 ‘자신이 없어서’로 26.7%였고,‘흥미가 없어서’는 17.7%,‘직업과 관련이 없어서’는 11.9%였다. 게다가 학생들은 자신들이 선호하는 요인뿐만 아니라 학교의 선택, 대학에서 요구하는 과목에 의해서도 영향을 받음을 알 수 있었다. 몇몇 학생들은 지구과학에 대한 의견으로‘중요하지 않은 과목’,‘직업 선택이 어려울 것 같다’,‘실생활에 도움이 되지 않는다.’,‘낮은 사회적 이미지’라고 생각했다. 이에 대한 대안으로는 학생들에게 직업 교육에 대한 충분한 정보를 제공하는 것이 필요하다. 또한 대학의 각 학과마다 기초 지식에 될 수 있는 과학 과목을 의무적으로 지정해, 해당 학과에 입학하기 위해선 지정된 과목을 필수적으로 수능 응시 하게한다. 이러한 이유 때문에, 학생들은 그들의 직업과 관련된 과목을 선택할 수 있고, 점수보다는 자신의 직업을 더 고려하게 될 것이다.;The purpose of this study is to show students’ trends for selecting school subject of earth science in the 7th curriculum of general high school. This study also shows the main reasons why high school students choose the earth science rather than any other subjects. A total of 716 students(two graders) from six different high schools participated in this study. Questionnaire was developed for survey. The survey questions has personal factor, social factor and educational factor. This study made use of frequency analysis, cross-tabulations, One-way ANOVA and Scheffe's multiple range test was conducted for post-hoc on a SPSS program. Based on the result important factors in choosing science subjects are found as follows. First, the most important factor when choosing among science subjects is how interest the subject is, and the next important factor is how high scores students could possibly get, and lastly how directly the subject is related with their future career. Secondly, when asked what is the most important factor when it comes to choosing favorite subjects, students answer as follows. How high scores students could possibly get; how interest the subject is; and the next important factor students pointed out was how easy the subject is. Third, when choosing science subjects as they are reflected on their academic record, students consider the most that how attractive the subjects are, followed by how high scores students could possibly get and how easy the subject is. Fourth, when it comes to college scholastic ability test, students make a choice of a science subject based on the factors such as scores, interest, and easiness. A total of 452 students selected earth science among four science subjects in school, but 172 students chose other science subjects. The reasons why the earth science is selected are listed as follows. A total of 52.08% of students said that they had no other choices but following the decision made by their school authority when choosing science subjects. The other group, 19.01% of students said earth science is an interesting subject. The ratio of group mentioning the earth science is easy was 13.22%. A total of 305 students chose the earth science when they do College Scholastic Ability Test. The main reasons for their choice are as follows. The subject is very easy to understand(13.22%), ; It is easy to get a good score(21.9%),; and it is better than the other subjects(10.4%). A total of 289 high school students did not select the earth science when they do College Scholastic Ability Test. The main reasons for not choosing the subject are "I'm not confident enough."(26.7%); "It is not interesting."(17.7%); and "It is not relevant with my future career."(11.9%). Besides, this study shows that when the students make a choice among subjects they are affected not only by the their preference but also by other factors such as decision of high schools and requirement for college entrance. A lot of students gave various opinions on earth science subject such as it is not that important subject; irrelevant to future career; not helpful in real life; low social image. In order to make the earth science popular among high school students, it is necessary to give proper guidance to the students with sufficient information on the career education. In addition, plan is needed at university level. Department in university have rights to decide any science subject among four science subjects for basic knowledge. Accordingly, students have to choose it is essential. If the students chose science subject, they have to chose subject relevant to their career. And they will consider career more than their academic score.
