꽃의 이미지를 표현한 실내 도판 연구

Abstract

Among creatures of God, flower would be the best work. Flower must be a masterpiece of nature, in which colors, shapes, and fragrance were embroidered. From the ancient times, flower has been the symbol of the representative beauty in our human life, and it has been on everyone's lips as a major term of beauty across the ages and in all countries of the world. So that many people have been fascinated by it, and they want to live near flower. The meaning of the flower is expanded as a representative symbol of beauty, and it represents beautiful and colorful figure, or abstraction of honor and nobleness and their essence. That is, symbols of prosperity or abundance have been derived from flower in the symbolization of beauty. These symbols are spread into diverse meanings and they are used with various meanings. Likewise, these symbols have been frequently adopted as subject materials of artists' works. This research attempts to express a variety of images by selecting subject materials for making people think of true beauty going beyond the simple recognition that flower is the symbol of visual beauty. This research does not aim at making a realistic description about flower, but it tries to represent the aesthetic meaning of it. Therefore, this research used the abstract theory and figurative expression way of Mondrian. Among many western artists, Mondrian is widely applied in the field of design as well as the contemporary art. The representative paintings, which are composed of the three-primary colors and vertical and horizontal lines, were not the original work style of Mondrian. In the early work period of Mondrian, he was inclined to express the description of nature, but he gradually simplified his work style, and finally created his unique style. His work process, unique style, and influence in various fields attracted attention of this author. Therefore, this research puts the purpose in searching for the unique work style of this author and convey the aesthetic meaning of flower by applying the simplification process of Mondrian to the theme of flower. In order to achieve the goal, data in regard to meanings and symbolic characteristics of flower were collected. The symbolism of flower was investigated by classifying it into the general characteristics and individual characteristics. In terms of individual symbols, the focus was placed on the meaning of flower based on the Korean people's perception and characteristics of flower. For the research, various perspectives of one flower were observed and analyzed instead of collecting a wide range of flowers. In addition, authors who set flower as their motif at home and abroad were examined in the fields of painting and sculpture as well as ceramics. In particular, it investigated author, Mondrian because his style is fit to the style that is pursued by this research. The biography of Mondrian was divided into different periods, and among his works, the works which are relevant to the work of the author were selected and analyzed. In addition, works of other contemporary artists who have applied the works of Mondrian were investigated for reference in order to suggest a variety of expression ways. Since painting work of Mondrian was applied to the figurative process of the work, it conducted its work based on the work of plate and it focused on expressing the symbolism of beautiful flower by applying various types of soil and production techniques. It was not easy to express flower by reinterpreting the style of other author with the theme of representative symbol of beauty, flower. However, flower was expressed in various ways in different works according to the types of soil and firing methods of glaze. In addition, invisible parts and blooming process were imagined and felt going beyond the external splendor of flower through the work of this research. Lastly, just as works of Mondrian, which were dealt with in this work, are not confined to the times of those days and they are still widely applied to many people in the contemporary people, it is expected that the work of this research will be developed in various ways in the future.;꽃은 그 아름다운 색과 자태 그리고 그윽한 향기로 사람들의 마음을 즐겁게 할 뿐만 아니라 삶의 정취를 더욱 깊게 해준다. 문인 김동리는 그에게 아름다운 것을 들라면 첫째는 꽃이요 둘째는 소녀요 셋째는 달이라고 했다. 꽃과 소녀와 달은 보는 순간 가슴이 찔금 하거나 설레거나 형언할 수 없는 설움 같은 것을 안겨준다. 그것은 보다 더 순수하게 보다 더 날카롭게 우리의 미신경을 자극하기 때문이 아닐까?...도대체 나는 왜 꽃이라고 하면 언제나 이렇게 몸이 후끈 달아오를까... 그렇다 내가 꽃을 보고 그렇게 충격을 받는 것은 거기서 곧 신의 얼굴을 보기 때문이 아닐까 - <꽃과 소녀와 달과> 이와 같이 꽃은 아름다운 것이기에 뭇사람들의 마음을 매혹시켰고, 사람들은 꽃을 늘 가까이에 두고 살고 싶어 한다. 그래서 미의 대표적인 상징물로서의 꽃은 그 의미가 더욱 확대 되어 아름답고 화려한 모습을 형용하거나 나아가 더욱 추상화 되서 영예로움과 고상함 그리고 그것의 진수를 표상하기에 이른다. 즉 아름다움에서 출발한 꽃은 번영 풍요라는 상징을 파생시켰고, 이것은 다시 유사한 갖가지 의미로 확산이 되어 다양한 의미로 사용이 되어졌으며 예술가들의 작품 소재로도 빈번하게 채택이 되어졌다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 꽃의 단순한 시각적 아름다움의 상징성을 넘어 사람들에게 진정한 아름다움에 대해 생각해 보게 하는 소재로서 선택되어지는 꽃의 다양한 이미지들을 표현해 보고자 하였다. 이러한 꽃의 표현에 있어서 몬드리안의 추상 이론과 조형적인 표현 방법을 이용하였다. 몬드리안은 많은 서양 미술가들 중 현대 미술 뿐 아니라 디자인 분야에서도 널리 응용되어지고 있는 작가이다. 이 작가의 대표작이라고 할 수 있는 삼원색과 검정 수직수평선으로 구성되어져 있는 그림들이 처음부터 몬드리안의 작업스타일은 아니었다. 몬드리안은 작업 초기에는 자연 묘사 표현 작업을 진행하다 형태를 점차적으로 단순화함으로써 자신의 특징적인 표현방식에 도달하게 되었다. 이러한 작가의 작업진행 과정과 누구나 아는 자신만의 스타일을 갖고 있다는 점과 현재까지도 이 작가의 작품이 다방면에서 영향을 미친다는 점이 연구자에게는 관심 있게 다가왔다. 그리하여 몬드리안의 단순화 과정을 꽃이라는 주제에 응용하여 적용해 봄으로서 꽃의 미적인 의미를 명확하게 전달하고 연구자만의 작업 스타일을 찾아가는 것에 본 연구의 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 가장 먼저 꽃이 갖고 있는 의미와 상징성들에 대한 자료를 수집하였다. 꽃의 상징성은 일반적인 것과 개별적인 것으로 나누어 조사를 하였으며 개별적인 상징에서는 한국인들이 생각하는 꽃의 의미와 특징을 중점으로 연구 하였다. 특히 꽃의 다양한 종류를 수집하기 보다는 하나의 꽃을 다양한 관점과 방법으로 관찰 분석하였고, 꽃을 모티브로 하여 작업을 하는 국내외 작가들을 도예뿐만 아니라 회화 조각 등의 분야에서 찾아보았다. 몬드리안에 대한 연구로 우선 그의 일대기를 시대별로 나누어 정리하고 그의 작품들 중 연구자의 작업과 관련 있는 작품들을 선별하여 분석하였다. 또한 다양한 표현 방법을 참고 하기 위해 현대 작가들 중 몬드리안의 작품을 응용하여 작업한 작품들을 조사하여 참고 하였다. 작품의 조형과정에서는 몬드리안의 회화 작업 응용하여 작업을 진행하였으므로 도판 작업으로 표현되었고, 다양한 흙의 종류와 제작 기법을 적용하여 아름다운 꽃의 상징성을 표현하는 데에 중점을 두었다. 본 연구를 통하여 ‘미’의 대표적인 상징물인 꽃이라는 주제를 다른 작가의 스타일을 바탕으로 재해석하여 표현해 본다는 것이 결코 쉬운 과정이 아니었음을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 흙의 종류와 유약 소성방법에 따라 다양한 느낌을 표현 할 수 있다는 도자 예술 분야의 특징이 꽃이라는 주제를 작품마다 다양한 이미지를 표현 할 수 있었다. 또한 연구자의 작업을 통해 보는 사람들이 꽃의 외적인 화려함 만을 느끼는 것이 아니라 보이지 않는 부분 그리고 그 꽃이 피어나기까지의 과정들을 상상하고 느낄 수 있었으면 하는 마음으로 작업을 진행 하였다. 또한 이번 작업에서 함께 연구한 몬드리안이라는 작가의 작품들은 그 당시 과거에만 존재 하는 것이 아니라 지금 현재까지도 많은 사람들에게 널리 응용되어지고 있는 것처럼 연구자의 작업도 이번 연구를 앞으로 다양한 방식으로 더 발전되기를 희망한다.
