Trafficking of Women for Sexual Exploitation

Abstract

For the past decades, human trafficking problem has taken a challenging role in many forms around the world. This paper has explained women trafficking issue involving most vulnerable people in our society. This field focuses on the issues of trafficking of women, human rights abuse, globalization and poverty as well as labor demands and family related background in society. This paper tries to examine the main causes such as; the connection between educated status and vulnerable and increasing cases of women trafficking in Myanmar. Moreover, this paper attempts to find the ways of how the Myanmar government is tackling trafficking issues compared to other neighbouring countries. This paper stated various forms of trafficking and especially emphasized on sexual exploitation of women in Myanmar and a case study thesis is also included. The result on this study shows that social related factors are main facts for the women to get education and that the lack of knowledge is one of the difficulties to get jobs easily and as a consequence, they are being trafficked easily. The way the government is tackling the trafficking issues do not differ from neighbouring countries. Based on the research from year 1998-2008, the government was able to tackle the trafficking cases in line with the Anti-trafficking in Persons Law (2005). Moreover, the lack of education and economic hardships among poor families’ are the main points of increased trafficking. The research also proposes some recommendations for further studies in the future.;이 논문은 미얀마의 가장 취약한 계층인 여성 인신매매의 주 원인을 분석한다. 이 논문의 목적은 미얀마 정부가 다른 이웃 국가들과 비교해서 여성인신매매 이슈를 어떻게 다루고 있는지를 분석하는 것이다. 미얀마에서 여성 인신매매의 증가는 빈곤, 낮은 교육, 취업기회의 부족으로 인해 발생한다. 특히 여성들이 교육을 제대로 받지 못하고 가족 부양의 짐을 짊어지고 있기 때문에 많은 돈을 벌 수 있다는 인신매매자들의 꾀임에 싶게 현혹되어 다른 나라로 가게 된다. 이 논문은 인신매매의 여러 가지 형태 특히 미얀마에서의 여성의 성 착취에 대한 사례를 논의한다. 인신매매 분석을 위해서는 미얀마 정부와 NGO 단체들의 1차, 2차 자료를 중심으로 분석하였다. 본 연구를 통해 교육 부족과 지식 부족이 여성으로 하여금 직업을 갖지 못하고 그 결과 인신매매에 빠져 들게 된다는 점이 밝혀졌다. 1998-2008년 사이에 이루어졌던 연구결과의 토대에 따르면 미얀마 정부는 반 인신매매 법안(2005)를 통해 인신매매 문제와 싸울 수 있었다. 이 논문은 미얀마 정부가 인신매매에 대한 사회적 인식을 증가시켜야 하며, 인신매매를 줄이기 위해서는 인신매매가 가장 많이 발생하는 지역에서 여성을 대상으로 한 직업 교육 프로그램을 강화해야 한다고 제안한다.
