Abstract
Mobile phone is continuously evolving from the rapid development of Information & Communication and Hardware technology. According to the extension of secondary function, it is attempted to create various operation method and design. As multi-media function is strengthen, large-sized screen is required and touch panel technology is developed, buttons almost disappeared and full-screen touch mobile phone equipped touch screen appeared. Almost young users called ‘Thumb Generation’ who are very interested in new mobile phone and very directly using cellular phone pursue efficiency and accuracy as they operate mobile phones without seeing buttons. It can be unfamiliar and awkward for users to disappear button keypads in mobile phones. It is worried about the usability of full-screen touch mobile phone because it has weak physical feedback when buttons are pressed and has defect to be difficult to recognize absolute position with a sense of touch. I have questions how young users recognize full-screen touch mobile phone and how they accept the experience of new operation method in this circumstance. As it is compared with the usability of button keypad method, I debated on the possibility of full-screen touch mobile phone. In this thesis, I analyzed the usability divided into two aspects which are quantitative performance and subjective satisfaction. The method of button keypads is superior in the result of quantitative performance. However, satisfaction of full-screen touch method is more improved after than before use without reference to real performance. It showed higher satisfaction of full-screen touch method than button keypad method before use, but showed improvement of full-screen touch method in both emotional and functional aspects after use. This result can be analyzed that functional expectation of users before use improves satisfaction after experience. Even if real performance is low, it also has good effects on satisfaction because negative feeling can be offset by users’ positive experience in emotional aspects. It shows that Rich User Experience affects on interface preferences. This research limits subject age to early 20s, but I expect to draw different results if subject age is changed to old people. If comparison research is performed on various targets, it will be guide lines about market segmentation of full-screen touch mobile phone.
