가브리엘 포레(Gabriel Faure)의 theme et variations op.73에 대한 분석

Abstract

본 논문에서는, 19세기 말에서 20세기 초에 프랑스에서 활동하면서 독일의 피아노 음악에 눌려 침체되어있던 프랑스 건반음악을 활성화시키는데 큰 역할을 한 가브리엘 포레(Gabriel Urbain Fauré 1845-1924)의 음악적 특징을 그의 피아노 작품 중 <주제와 변주(Theme et variations op.73)>를 통해 살펴보고자 한다. 빈 고전파의 독일 피아노 음악에 눌려있던 프랑스의 기악 음악은, 19세기 중엽에 이르러 국민-민족주의가 대두되자 비로소 자국의 음악에 귀를 기울이자는 프랑스 작곡가들의 움직임으로 기악 음악 작곡과 연주가 활발해졌다. 이 때 중심이 된 작곡가가 프랑크(César Franck, 1822-1890)와 생상스(Camille Saint-Saëns 1835-1921)인데 그 뒤를 이어 포레도 생상스와 함께 프랑스 건반 음악의 활성화를 위해 많은 노력을 하였다. 그 중, 본 논문에서 다루어진 <주제와 변주(Theme et variations op.73)>는 그가 도전했던 몇 안 되는 광대한 형식의 곡 중 하나로, 포레의 음악적 성숙기에 만들어져 그의 음악 어법이 많이 사용된 포레 유일의 변주곡이다. 이 곡을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 주제는 각각 4마디씩으로 구성된 A-B-A'-B-A'로서, 각 변주마다 축소, 확대, 변형된 형식으로 변주되고, 둘째, 주요 선율은 순차 상승했다가 도약 하강하는 아치형의 A부분과 순차 상행했다가 순차 하행하는 짧은 동기로 구성된 아치형의 B부분으로 나타나, 각 변주곡마다 주로 리듬이 변형된 형태로 선율을 이어가며, 셋째, 각 변주곡마다 주된 리듬 형태가 나타나 반주됨으로써 곡의 통일성이 유지되고, 특히 2박과 3박의 결합, syncopation, off-beat accent등의 사용이 리듬의 유연성과 다양성을 만들어낸다. 넷째, 조성내에서 함께 사용되는 선법, 또 반음계와 온음음계의 사용과 많은 변화음을 통한 먼 조로의 전조 등의 특징들은 화성을 더욱 모호하게 만들어 인상주의 음악을 예고하는 듯한 독특한 색채를 만들어낸다. 다섯째, 주요 선율인 짧은 동기를 cannon형식이나 대위법을 사용하여 각 성부에서 수평적으로 나열함으로써 매우 간결한 구성을 보인다. 여섯째, 곡의 조성은 맨 마지막 조성(C# Major)을 제외하고는 모두 c# minor이며, 일곱 번째로 박자는 4/4,3/4가 주로 쓰이고, 제 10변주에서만 3/8박자가 쓰였다. ;In this thesis, the musical characteristics of Gabriel urbain Faure(1845-1924) are studied through one of his works, Theme et variations op. 73. Gabriel Fauré, a French Composer, played an important role to activate the French piano music which had been depressed by German piano music from late 19th century to 20th century. When the nationalism rose in mid nineteenth century, French instrumental music started to be exhilarated by French music composers such as César Franck( 1822-1890), Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) and Gabriel urbain Faure who started to pay their attention to their own nation's music. Theme et variations op. 73(1895), the subject of this thesis, one of his largely formed pieces of music, was composed during Faurè's mature period and revealed his characteristics very well as his only variation. The analysis of this Theme et variations op. 73 concluded as follows; First, the theme caries with enlargement, reduction, transform in each variation with A-B-A'-B-A'. Secondly, the melody varies in different rhythm at each variation with two parts. One is each shaped part with jumping downturn after continuous rise. Thirdly, the main rhythm patterns are sued repeatedly. Therefore there are rhythmic ambiguity and flexibility due to syncopation rhythm, off-beat accent, the association of duple and triple. Fourthly, there are several characteristics such as modal element in major and minor tonality, whole-tone scale and chromatic scale, and constant modulation that make the harmony more evasive and give peculiar colour seeming to preview Impressionism music. Fifthly, it shows a very simple texture using the way of arranging the main short simple motive. Sixthly, the tonalties are all C# minor except the last one, C# major. Finally, in the rhythm, four-four time and three-four time are mainly used except the only eight-three time at the tenth variation.
