조선시대 색동의 색채를 응용한 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

세계화, 국제화의 시대적 흐름에 따라 한국 패션의 세계 진출이 현실화되어 오면서 우리 민족의 복식에 나타난 독자적인 특성은 한국의 디자이너들에게 연구하기에 충분한 가치를 지닌 귀중한 자료로 인식되고 있다. 21세기 정보통신의 급속한 발달로 인해 동시간에 현재 패션의 흐름을 읽을 수 있는 상황에서 민족의 고유한 특성이 반영된 독창적인 패션은 우리의 전통을 지킴과 동시에 독자적으로 개발한 문화적 개별성을 통해 우리 전통의 우수성을 세계에 알리는 계기가 될 수 있다. 이런 점에서 우리 나라뿐 아니라 해외에서도 활동하는 한국의 디자이너들은 90년대부터 현재까지도 전통문화, 복식 등이 가지고 있는 고유한 특성들을 찾아 현대 패션에 접목시킴으로써 자신들만의 개성을 드러내는 한 방법으로 연구해오고 있다. 이러한 상황으로 볼 때 미래에 우리는 전통문화 속에서 미적으로 연구할 가치가 있는 특징적인 면들을 찾아 세계 패션 시장에 내놓을 수 있는 경쟁력 있는 패션을 창조해내야 할 것이다. 이에 본 연구의 목적은 우리 나라 고유 색채의 특성을 집약적으로 보여주고 있는 색동을 응용하여 현대적인 디자인에 접목시켜 고유성과 현대성의 창의적 결합을 통해 경쟁력 있는 디자인 창출에 기여하는 방향을 제시하고자 함에 있다. 본 연구는 문헌조사 연구방법과 실증적 자료분석 연구방법으로 진행되었다. 이론적 연구로서 문헌을 통해 색동의 정의와 유래, 그 의미와 활용에 대해 고찰하고, 미적 특성에 대해 분석, 정리하였다. 현대 디자인에서의 응용사례에서는 90년대 중반부터 최근까지 색동이 응용된 사례들을 잡지, 각종 패션 사이트와 해외에 진출한 한국 디자이너들의 기성복 컬렉션과 SFAA 컬렉션, 그리고 인터넷 검색을 통해 수집하여 분석하고 그 경향을 살펴보았다. 또한 실증적 자료분석 연구는 색동이 들어간 조선 시대의 유물 중 의복에 해당되는 사례 유물 51점을 선정하여 NCS 자연색체계를 이용하며 색상 및 색조의 분포를 살펴보고, 배색 특성을 알아보았다. 작품 제작은 앞에서 분석한 색동이 나타난 조선 시대 때의 유물 51점 중 8점을 재선정하여 각 유물의 색동의 색채를 응용한 패션디자인 작품 8점을 제작하였다. 이러한 연구를 토대로 작품 제작을 한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 전통적으로 음양오행사상에 근거한 오방색의 개념이 반영된 색동의 색채를 색상을 고정시키고 유지하면서 명도와 채도를 조정한 결과 색동의 색채특성이 유지되면서 모던하고 깊이 있는 색채이미지로 변화시킬 수 있었다. 둘째, 색동의 색채 이미지를 표현함에 있어서, 조선 시대의 색동의 배색 특성의 결과로 나타난 조선 시대 색동 구성의 기본 색으로 사용된 R계열의 색채를 모든 작품에 사용함으로써 색동 고유의 이미지를 유지시킬 수 있었다. 셋째, 의상의 전체적인 실루엣과 색동 모티프 부분의 디자인을 최대한 간결하고 단순하게 계획한 결과 미적인 측면에서 색채 미와 형태미가 조화롭게 결합된 디자인을 제안할 수 있었다. 넷째, 색동이 적용된 부분과 그 배경부분의 명도와 채도 차이를 크게 의도하여 색동 부분의 장식 효과를 높일 수 있었다. 즉, 디자인에 있어서 색동이 적용된 부분의 면적을 최소화 했을 때 면적 비에 의해 색동 부분의 색채 효과가 극명하게 드러남을 알 수 있었다. 다섯째, 양면이 다른 색의 실로 짜여 한 면에서 투 톤 컬러가 나타나는 다양한 실크소재는 색동의 색채를 오묘한 느낌이 나도록 해 주어 색동의 색채 이미지를 새롭게 표현할 수 있었다. 여섯째, 색동 적용 부분의 색 배열과 색 면 구성에 변화를 줌으로써 색동 고유의 화려하고 강렬한 색채 미에 좀 더 신선한 감각을 부여할 수 있었고 이를 통해 색 면 구성법의 다양한 시도를 통해 색동 모티프에 대한 무한한 디자인 창출의 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 전통 문화의 한 부분이라고 할 수 있는 색동의 색채를 연구한 만큼 앞으로도 한국 고유문화유산을 체계적으로 연구하여 미적 특질을 규명하고 이를 현대 패션과 접목시키는 방법을 꾸준히 시도함으로써 전통의 현대화 및 세계화에 기여하게 되길 기대한다.;In accordance with the trend of time toward globalization andinternationalization, overseas expansion of Korean fashion has been realizedand the unique characteristics of Korean fashion which were expressedthrough the costumes of Korean people are recognized as precious data whichis worth a while for Korean designers to study about. Under the currentsituation where we can read the stream of contemporary fashion in the worldsimultaneously thanks to the rapid development of information andcommunication in the 21C, original fashion in which generic characteristics ofKorean people were reflected will provide us of the momentum not only topreserve our tradition but also to make the world aware of the superiority ofour tradition through the cultural individuality which was independentlydeveloped by Korean people. In this regard, many Korean designers who areactively working in our country as well as overseas have been studying on themethod of expressing their own individuality by searching genericcharacteristics in our traditional culture and costumes and grafting the resultsof their search into modern fashion over the period from 90’s even up untilnow. In view of such situation, our task will be to identify the characteristicaspects out of our traditional culture which are worthwhile to study and to create our own fashion which can be competitive in global market. In this regard, the purpose of this study is to make a suggestion for thedirection to contribute to the creation of competitive design through theapplication of Saekdong which intensely show the characteristics of genericKorean colors and the creative combination of the characteristics and modernism. This study was carried out based on the research methods of literaturesurvey as well as positive data analysis. As a theoretical research, thedefinition and original of the Korean unique stripes of many colors as well asthe meanings and utilization were studied and their aesthetic characteristicswere analyzed and arranged. In the examples of its application in moderndesign, a variety of examples on the application of Saekdong for the periodfrom mid 90’s up until recently were compiled from pertinent magazines,various fashion sites, the collections of ready-made costumes clothes ofoverseas Korean designers, SFAA collections and Internet search, and all thedata were analyzed while reviewing their trend in fashion. And for the studyof positive data analysis, 51 items of the examples of remains among theremains of clothes in Joseon Dynasty which contained Saekdong wereselected and the distribution of their colors and color tone were observedusing Natural Color System (NCS) examining the characteristics of theirarrangements of colors. As to the production of works, we produced 8 piecesof fashion design works in which we applied Saekdong in respective remainsbased on 8 items of the 51 remains we studied. As a result of the production of our works based on such research, theresearcher came to the following conclusion:First, I could change to the image of modern and in-depth color whilemaintaining the characteristics of Saekdong as a result of the adjustment ofthe brightness and saturation of colors while fixing and maintaining the colorsin Saekdong in which the concept of Five Colors of blue-red-yellow-whiteblackbased on Yim-Yang-O-Haeng Theory (Korean traditional philosophy ofmale and female five elements). Second, in expressing the image of Saekdong, we could maintain thegeneric image of Saekdong by using the colors in R series which were used asthe basic colors for the composition of Saekdong in Joseon Dynasty appearedas a result of the characteristics of color combination in Joseon age. Third, as a result of our planning to make our design of overall silhouetteand the stripe of many color motif of clothes as concise and simple aspossible, we could come up with the design in which the beauties of color andform were harmoniously combined from aesthetic aspect. Fourth, we could enhance the effect of decoration of Saekdong part basedon our intention to make the difference of brightness and saturation biggerbetween the background part and the part in which we applied Saekdong. Namely, when we minimize the area of the application of Saekdong in ourdesign, we learned that the effect of color for the stripe part was maximizedby the proportion of the area. Fifth, for silk materials which were woven using threads of different colorsfor both sides and thus we can feel two-tone color, we could express newimage of color by creating profound feeling of colors for Saekdong. Sixth, by giving changes in the color arrangement and the plane compositionof color for the stripes applied part, we could add more fresh feeling onto thegeneric splendid and strong beauty of Saekdong, and also through this wecould confirm the possibility of creating infinite design for color motif throughdiversified attempts on the plane composition method of colors. After having carried out the study on the colors of Saekdong which isknown to be a part of our traditional culture, the researcher expects thatfurther systematic researches on the Korean generic cultural remains areperformed to examine the aesthetic qualities and steady attempts for themethod of grafting the result of researches with modern fashion are carriedout in order to contribute to the modernization and globalization of ourtradition.
