Abstract

本 論文의 目的은 오늘날 社會學界에 새롭게 등장하는 新行態論의 影響을 받은 Homans의 立場을 통해서, 그가 人間行動을 어떻게 解釋하는가를 발펴보며, 나아가서는 Homans理論이 묵시적으로 가질 수 있는 人間觀의 問題點을 人道主義的 立場에서 人間을 보는 觀點과 비교하는데 있다. Homans의 社會學的 立場은 科學哲學者, 還元論者, 行態論者의 性格을 띠면서, 이들은 서로 相關性을 가지고 있다. 그는 科學哲學的 立場을 통해서, 社會學理論이 무엇인가를 제시하였다. 즉 理論이 現象의 發見과 說明의 임무를 행하기 위해서는, 連續體系를 가진 一聯의 命題들로 構成되어야 한다. 이 命題는 一般性의 정도에 따라 上位命題와 下位命題로 구분된다. 上位命題는 보다 一般性을 가진 命題로서 Homans는 이 上位命題는 人間의 行動에 대한 心理學的 命題라고 보았다. 그에 있어 理論의 理論連續的 形態를 要求하는 立場은 社會學理論이 궁극적으로 心理學的 命題에서 出發해야 한다는 還元論의 立場을 수반한다. 그의 心理學的 命題에서 人間의 行動은 刺戟 - 反應의 圖式으로 說明된다. 이 行態論的 立場은 Skinner의 行態論으로서 Homans는 Skinner의 作動的 條件化의 技術을 發展시켜서 人間의 次元에까지 끌어 올렸다. 이러한 行態論的 立場에 經濟學의 基本原理를 竝合하여, Homans는 人間의 基本的인 社會行動을 파악하며, 一般命題를 樹立하고자 했다. 그의 代表的 社會學理論인 交換理論을 통해서 보면, 그는 社會行爲를 보상과 처벌의 直接的이고 즉각적인 交換이라는 觀點에서 說明하며 人間行動을 다섯가지 基本命題로 一般化시켰다. 위의 立場을 통해서 Homans가 보여준 人間像은 단순히 外部의 刺戟에 대해서 機械的으로 反應하는 客體이며 보다 큰 보상에 따라 行動을 選擇하는 合理的인 人間이다. 이렇게 人間을 機械的·決定的으로 보는 立場과는 달리, 오늘날에는 人間과 社會를 人道主義的 視角에서 조명하는 立場이 있다. 즉 自我를 가진 人間은 他人의 行爲에 대해서 機械的으로 反應하는 것이 아니라, 각자의 行爲를 해석하고 정의내린다. 또한 자신의 行動과 자기 둘레의 狀況과 對象을 自律的으로 選擇할 수 있다. 人道主義的 視角에서의 人間은 보상에 따라 反應하는 動物水準의 人間에서 벗어나, 자기 둘레의 對象과 狀況에 의미를 부여하며, 價値를 選擇하며 그리고 社會的, 文化的 脈絡 속에서 자신의 存在를 선택하는 主體的 人間인다. 그러나 이렇게 非人間化를 묵시적으로 조장하는 人間觀을 가지고 있지만, Homans가 社會學 內에 기여한 공헌도를 간과할 수 없다. 社會生活을 具體的인 事件의 연속으로 봄으로써, 人間行動에서 具體化되지 않은 變數들의 關係를 科學的으로 理解할 수 있게 하였으며, 人間行動에 대한 基本命題를 다양한 社會現象에 적용함으로써, Homans는 社會學者들이 看過한 微視的 變數로서 心理學者들이 看過한 社會的 狀況을 說明할 수 있다는 것을 보여 주었다.;The purpose of this thesis consists in observing how Homans, who was influenced by neo-behaviorism, analyzes the human behavior and further more comparing a man in view of Homans with a man in view of humanism. The sociological viewpoint of Homans shows us the characteristic of philosopher of science, reductionist and behaviorist which have related closely each other. Through philosopher of science, he presents what is a sociological theory. A theory has to be consisted of a series of proposition which has deductive system to do the duty of science, explanation and discovery of phenomenon. This proposition is classified as a high order and low order to the extent of generality. Homans takes this high order, which has more generality, for psychological proposition about human behavior. So he tried to analyze the elementary social behavior of man by amalgamating the basic principle of economics to his behavioritic viewpoint. If we examine the exchange theory which is his representative sociological theory, he explains social action in view the fact that it is the direct, immediate exchange of reward and punishment. We can observe obviously his standpoint about human behavior through his five basic propositions which generalized the human behavior. The image of man he shows us through this viewpoint is the object who responses mechanically against the external stimulus and the rational human being who behaves as more favorite reward. His reductional and behavioristic viewpoint considers man and society as mechanic and decisive object. On the contrary of this viewpoint there is an another one which tries to observe man and society in view of humanism. Man who has a self doesn't response mechanically against other's stimulus, but he analyzes and defines his action. And he can choose his action, surrounding situation and objects autonomously. In these conditions, man can radiate his meaning to situation and objects, choose the value and select his existence in social and cultural sphere, surpassing the level of the animal that acts toward reward. Though his theory causes the dehumanization implicitly, but we cannot overlook his distribution in sociology. He considers social life as a series of the concrete incidents, so he can make us understood scientifically relations of abstract variables in human behavior. He shows us that social situation overlooked by the psychologist can be explained with the micro-variables overlooked by the sociologist.
