石洲 李相龍의 國權恢復論 硏究

Abstract

한말 변혁운동의 세력은 크게 '근대 부르조아적 개혁운동'과 '아래로부터의 변혁운동'으로 구별된다. '근대 부르조아적 개혁'의 선상에서 1905년 이후 지식인 및 관료들에 의해 전개된 '자강운동'에 관한 연구가 많이 축적되어 왔다. 그러나 그간의 연구들은 자강운동 내부의 다양한 사상적 기만과 지향을 사상한 채 전체로서 취급하여 그 차별성을 드러내 주지 못했던 것으로 보인다. 따라서 자강운동을 전개한 인물의 개별적 사상의 검토가 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이와같은 문제의식 아래 한말 일제초 국권회복운동을 전개한 석주 이상룡(1858-1932)의 사상을 검토하고자 한다. 石洲 李相龍은 철종5년 안동의 보수적 사림가문에서 태어나 유교적 교육을 받으며 성장하였다. 그는 제국주의의 침략으로 전통적 사회질서가 붕괴되자 전통유학을 강화하는 방법으로 변화하는 현실에 대처하고자 하였다 을사년과 을미년에는 두차례에 걸쳐 의병을 일으켰다. 그러나 두차례의 거의가 모두 실패하자 의병의 전술에 한계를 느끼고 동서열강의 신서적을 연구하였다. 이과정에서 그는 봉건적 사고에서 벗어나 신사상을 수용하였다. 이에 안동에 대한협회 지회를 결성하고 안동의 보수적 유림들을 대상으로 자강운동을 전개하였다. 그는 유교를 토대로 신학문을 수용하였으며 당시 국가위기를 초래한 큰 원인은 애국정신의 부재에 있다고 보고 애국정신을 배양하는데 노력하였다. 한편 경쟁국면에서 자립하기 위해서는 애국심으로 무장한 근대적 조직이 요구된다고 보아 '합군'을 주장하였고 이 가운데 그는 점차 국가의식을 심화, 발전시켰다. 또한 그는 의병의 경험을 토대로 하여 군사적 국가방위의 중요성을 잃지 않고 실력양성운동을 전개하였다. 1910년 강제병합을 계기로 석주는 자강운동이 지니는 한계를 인식하고 신민회와 더불어 만주로 이주, 항일무장투쟁을 전개하였다. 이 시기 그는 애국정신의 강화와 유지를 위해 '국수'를 강조하였다. 또한 경학사, 신흥무관학교를 통한 투쟁의 경제적 기반과 역량강화에 힘쓰며 일제와의 전면대결을 목표로 국권회복운동을 전개하였다.;Many studies have published about the Self-Strengthening Movement that was unfolded by intellectuals and bureaucrats between 1905 and 1910. These studies failed to notice various ideological intentions exactly. Because the various ideas of many groups were dealt identically with. To understand well the ideas of each group, we need study seperately each ideas of one who unfolded this movement. So this study examined the ideas of Lee Sang-Lyong who developed the Sovereignty Restoration Movement from the last years of the Chosun Dynasty to the early years of Japanese Imperialists. Sukju was born in conservative family in Andong. He was well brought up to respect confucianism by his families. In 1895 and 1905 he raised the Righteous Army to confront Japanese invasion under the ideas of the confucianist, but he failed. Then he became enthusiastic in reading books about Western ideas, His mind was opened to Western ideas in the process of reading Western books. And Sukju organized the Andong brenches of Daehan Association to unfold Self-Strengthening Movement among the confucianists. He took in the Western ideas on the basis of the confucian ideas. He thought that the cause of national crisis was absence of the sprit of patriotism. So he tried to raise patriotism and to enlighten inhabitants. On the other hand he emphasized the importance of military self-defense. But Sukju recognized the limitations of Self-Strengthening movement when Korea was annexed to Japan. Then he moved to Manchuria. He fought against Japanese Imperialists with Sinmim-hoe. At that time his goal is to restore sovereignty by armed resistance against Japan.
