대학도서관에서의 연속간행물 이용에 관한 연구

Abstract

오늘날 대학 및 연구도서관들에 있어서 연속간행물의 중요성은 날로 증가하고 있다. 그러나 이들은 전반적인 운영면에 있어 통제가 어려울 뿐 아니라 증가되는 출판량과 가격의 상승은 도서관의 공간 및 예산을 압박하고 있다. 이러한 문제의 한 해결책으로 소장자료에 대한 이용 경향을 조사해봄으로써 이용자들의 실제적인 요구를 이해하고 나아가서 도서관 운영에 있어 불필요한 예산과 공간의 낭비를 줄이는데 부분적으로나마 도움이 될 수 있을 것이다. 본 논문은 이화여자대학교 정기간행물실을 이용한 이용자들의 대출 신청서만을 근거로 연구조사한 것이다. 따라서 정기간행물실 내에서 기록을 남기지 않고 이용한 자료는 분석 조사에 포함되지 못하였고 단지 기록으로 나타난 자료에 한정된 결과이므로 이러한 면에 있어서 조사의 제한성이 있다. 1981년 9월 20일부터 1982년 1월 19일까지의 4개월동안 이용된 자료 중에서 대출신청서 상에 나타난 21,634건의 이용을 표본으로 하여 분석해 본 결과는 다음과 같았다. 1. 전체 소장잡지 3,500여종에서 조사 대상에 오른 잡지는 2,929 종이며 이들 중에서 조사기간 동안 한 번 이상 이용된 잡지는 1,154종이었다. 2. 25종의 잡지가 전체 이용 횟수의 약 50%를 차지하고 있었으며 324종의 잡지가 전체 이용의 약 90%를 만족시키고 있었다. 3. 주제별 분석에 있어서 많이 이용된 순위는 총류, 문학, 사회과학, 역사, 응용과학, 종교, 예술, 철학, 언어학, 순수과학 순으로 집계되었다. 4. 출판된지 10년까지의 잡지들이 전체 이용 횟수의 약 67%를, 20년까지의 것들이 약 96%를 만족시키고 있었다. 5. 국어로 출판된 잡지의 이용이 높았으며 영어를 제외한 기타 외국언어잡지의 이용은 매우 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 6. 양서잡지의 이용횟수 중 약 60%가 대학원생의 이용이었고 동서 잡지의 경우 이용횟수 중 약 89%가 학부생들의 이용으로서 대학원생의 양서잡지 의존도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 7. 이용된 잡지 중에서 현재 구독중인 잡지가 전체 이용의 약 74%를 차지하고 있었다.;Recently the importance of serial publications has considerably increased in university and research libraries. However it still remains difficult to control these materials. Growth of the publications in number and the rise of subscription fees impose pressures on library space and budget. This thesis is aimed as a periodical use study at Ewha Woman's University Library periodical room, which serves undergraduates, graduate students, faculties. The purpose of this paper is in finding out the periodical use patterns of the users, which may help improve the services in periodical room. The study is based solely on the recorded slips used during the four months period and presents only a partial view of the total use pattern. The results of the analysis of 21,634 call slips which were used in the periodical room from September 20 of 1981, to January 19 of 1982 are as follows. 1. Among 2,929 journals, 1,154 journals were used at least once during the four months period. 2. Only 25 journals were enough to meet 50% of the total demand and 324 journals covered the majority use. 3. Analyses by subjects show the use frequencies ranking as follows; Generalities, Literature, the Social Sciences, History, Applied Science, Religion, the Arts, Philosophy, Language, Pure Sciences. 4. Analyses by journal age show that the journals published during the past 10 years accounted for about 67% of total uses and those published during the past 20 years supplied about 96% of the total demand. 5. Analyses by language show that foreign language journals are being used much less than the vernacular journals. 6. About 60% of the western language journals' use were made by the graduate students, and about 89% of the oriental language journals' use were made by the undergraduate students 7. The currently subscribing journals satisfied about 74% of the total demand.
