원현미의 Metamorphosis for Chamber Orchestra

Abstract

This dissertation, Metamorphosis for Chamber Orchestra by Hyeunmi Won with Analysis consists of two parts. The first part is the analysis of the composition, and the second part is a Theme and Variations for Chamber Orchestra in One Movement, approximately 17 minutes long. The first part presents formal analysis of Metamorphosis for Chamber Orchestra, and the second part describes the pitch and rhythmic structures of the composition. Metamorphosis for Chamber Orchestra is a dodecaphonic variation which expressed a variety of transformed melodies, rhythms, and harmonies of its theme based on 12-tone set. The transformation of theme with various serial techniques develops the composition into the structural variation rather than the decorative one. The Metamorphosis for Chamber Orchestra expanded the possibility of structural variation by using the technique of dodecaphony through various manipulations of the set, including rotations and multiplicative fifths. This dissertation presents a variation based on dodecaphony which organizes the structure of harmony and melody of the composition. Through various transformations of set manipulations, it presents the possibility of structural variation and expands the basic concept of variation. This structural variation presents a formal potential for developing dodecaphony; it pursues the future of developing dodecaphony by applying complementary relationships between melody and harmony instead of simple set repetitions.;“원현미의 Metamorphosis for Chamber Orchestra: 작품 및 분석 연구”는 2부로 제 1부는 분석, 그리고 제 2부는 단악장으로 구성된 약 17분 길이의 실내 오케스트라 작품으로 구성되어 있다. 제 1부 분석 연구의 본론 부분은 다시 두 부분으로 세분되며 A 부분에서는 작품 분석에 앞서 작품 전체의 형식을 제시하고 B 부분에서는 부분별로 음 조직과 리듬 조직에 대한 이론을 서술하고 있다. Metamorphosis for Chamber Orchestra는 12음(dodecaphony) 음열(Set)에 의한 변주곡이다. 변주(Variation)는 주제(Theme)의 선율, 리듬, 화성의 다양한 변형을 표현하는 기법으로 많은 역사적 변천 속에서도 작곡의 중요한 기본적인 기법으로 존속되어 왔으며 변주의 여러 가지 테크닉은 작품을 발전시키는 원동력이 되었다. 음악 역사 속에서 조성음악의 발전은 12음 음악으로 새롭게 탄생되었으며 이러한 발전은 다양한 음악적 요소들을 음열을 통해 새롭게 재구성하고 있다. 주제의 변형은 음열의 다양한 테크닉과 결부하여 주제의 장식적 변형으로부터 확대된 구조적 변형으로 발전된다. 이러한 구조적 변주를 형성하는 화성과 선율의 상호 보완적 변형관계는 과거에는 소극적으로 다루어진 기법으로 본 작품은 12음 음열을 통한 새로운 변주의 가능성을 제시하고 있다.
