윤이상의 낙양(Loyang) 분석 연구

Abstract

재독 작곡가 윤이상(1917-1995)은 한국이 낳은 20세기 현대 음악의 대표적인 작곡가 중 하나이다. 그는 비록 독일에서 활동하였으나 작품의 본질 속에는 한국적 정서와 음색이 깃들여져 있다. 그러므로 서구의 음악 세계에 동양 작곡가로서 독자적인 위치를 확립해 나가며 동양의 미를 세계에 알렸다는데 그 가치를 높이 평가받을 수 있다. 본 논문에서 분석한 관현악을 위한 「낙양(Loyang)」은 1964년에 작곡된 것으로 1966년에 작곡된 그의 또 다른 대표작 「예악(Reak)」의 길목을 열어 준 작품으로 평가받는다. 「낙양」은 그가 추구하는 철학적 도교사상이나 동양적 음색이 잘 나타나 있으며, 한국의 전통 음악기법을 서양의 현대 작곡기법과 융화시켜 독자적인 작곡 양식을 구축함을 알 수 있는 작품이다. 총 3악장으로 구성된 이 작품은 정적인 1, 3악장과 동적인 2악장으로 구성되어 있다. 이는 도교 철학의 근본인 '정중동(靜中動)'을 의미하는 것으로 각 악장은 서로 상호보완적이다. 또한 악장 안에서의 각 부분들은 동일한 음구조로 시작함으로써 통일성을 구성한다. 이 세 악장은 모두 12음열로 시작된다. 그러나 이 음열은 '빈악파'에서와 같이 곡 전체를 통하여 동일한 음열이 계속되는 것이 아니라, 계속 새로운 음열로써 나타나며 끈임 없이 음군을 형성한다. 그러므로 '음열을 이루는 음군'으로 설명되어 진다. 또한 이런 음군들은 헤테르포니적 음향을 형성한다. 윤이상 작품에 있어서 가장 큰 특징으로 설명되어지는 한국 전통음악의 농현기법과 음색은 트레몰로, 트릴, 글리산도 등 다양한 주법을 통해 표현되었는데 특히 플륫의 꾸임음을 이용하여 한국 전통악기 '대금'의 효과를 냈고, 오보에의 청명한 소리는 '피리'의 효과를 냈으며 타악기를 통해 '장구'의 리듬을 묘사하고 있다. 이와 같은 특징들로 보아 윤이상의 「낙양」은 그가 음열 작법에서 음향작곡 기법으로 전환하는 과도기적 시기의 작품으로 생각되어진다. 그러므로 그는 음향적 측면을 통해 더욱 동양적인 소리를 찾았고 이로 인해 서양의 음악세계와 동양의 음악세계를 연결하는 중심적 역할을 해내었다.;Isang yun(1917-1995), a Korean-German, was one of the outstanding 20th century composers born in Korea. Although he had worked mainly in Germany, the essence of his works incorporates Korean aesthetics and tone colors. Therefore, he could be highly valued as a unique Asian composer established in the Western music world for his dissemination of the aesthetics of Asian music to the world. "Loyang[Nagyang in Korean]," an orchestral work that I analyzed in this paper, was composed in 1964 and has been regarded as the work which led him to create "Reak[Yeak]," another representative work completed in 1966. "Loyang" reflects Yun's search for philosophical Taoism and Asian timbre, and this work is known to represent his exclusive technique of composition by composition by combining Korean traditional and Western contemporary approaches. The three movements of "Loyang" consist of the two concepts of jeong(literally, Stillness; I.e. nichtbewegung, non-movement) in its first and third movements, and dong(bewegung, movement) in the second movement. Jeong and dong are parts of the fundamental Taoist philosophy of jeong-jung-dong and each movement compliments the other within the work. By employing the same melodic structures at the beginning of each movement, Yun succeeded in creating unity throughout the piece. Despite the fact that all three movements begin with 12 tone scales, the same series of tones are mot used throughout the piece as in the "Wien(Viennese) School." but various notes appear continuously and create endless additional tone clusters. Therefore they could be explained as "the tone clusters on the series of notes" and the tone clusters produce heterophonic textures. The most unique characteristics of Yun's works may be noted in his blending of the nonghyeon(literally, playing with strings. I.e. ornaments) and tone colors of Korean traditional music which are expressed through the various techniques he employs for instruments, for example, in tremolo, trills, glissando, to name a few. Yun succeeded in creating the sound of Korean daegeum(transverse bamboo flute) on Western flute through its ornamentations as well as the sound of Korean piri(bamboo oboe) on Western oboe through its clear sound. He manifested the rhythms of Korean janggu(hourglass-shaped drum) on various Western percussion instruments. Considering these characteristics, I think "Loyang" is a work created during his transitional period - from a serial tone to acoustic composition approach. By searching and finding more Asian tone colors through his acoustic exploration, he had accomplished his pivotal role of integrating the Western and Asian music worlds.
