조선시대 길상어문(吉祥語紋)을 응용한 현대 복식디자인 연구

Abstract

우리의 고유한 디자인에 적용되고 있는 전통적 대상들은 다양하며 그 대상들의 심미적 접근은 여러 차원에서 가능할 것이다. 근래에는 에스닉 패션이라는 고유성의 흐름으로 인해 전통문양은 민족적인 한정성이 아니라 세계 패션계에서 공통으로 이용하는 독특한 신선감으로 받아들여지고 있다. 이러한 움직임에 편승하여 패션계에서도 전통문화에 대한 새로운 인식의 일환으로 많은 디자이너들이 민족의 고유성을 살리는 한국적 전통을 의상디자인에 표출해 내려는 잦은 시도를 하게 되었다. 이에 본 연구는 우리 전통문화 중 하나인 문양을 돌아보고 거기에 나타난 조상들의 미감 뿐 아니라 정신세계를 올바로 이해하고, 사라져 가는 전통문양에 가치성을 부여하여 앞으로 발전시킬 대안을 마련해 보고자 하였다. 먼저 이론적 배경으로 첫째, 전통문화의 개념을 정립한 뒤 전통문화의 현대적인 재창조방안을 모색하였으며 그러한 전통적 요소가 표출된 현대복식을 고찰해 보았다. 둘째, 전통문화의 요소 중 하나인 길상어문의 정의 및 특성을 고찰해 보고 조선시대의 길상어문의 표현방법, 문자의 종류 및 시문방법, 문양의 형태 등을 통해 조형적 분석을 하였으며 길상어문을 현대 디자인에 적용한 예를 살펴보았다. 작품제작에 있어서는 우리의 전통문양 중에서 길상어문의 모티브를 소재로하여 현대적 감각으로 재구성해 새로운 문양의 효과를 얻고자 했다. 작품의 표현내용에 있어서 길상어문이 지닌 뜻과 그 의미를 현대복식에 표현할 때 그것을 재구성하는 과정에 있어서 도식화시키고 추상화시켜 나타내고자 하였다. 표현방법으로는 패치워크와 누빔, 아플리케 그리고 자수기법을 사용하였으며 재료는 수직실크를 이용하여 한국 복식의 현대적 고급화를 이룩하고자 하였다. 전통문화의 미의식을 계승하고 재창조하는 측면에서 길상어문의 문양을 분석하고 재구성하여 복식에 표현한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전통문화에서 정의된 전통성이 과거로부터 현대까지 활용되어 현대와 과거, 전통과 미래가 혼합되어 현대적으로 존재함을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 전통적인 요소를 현대복식에 활용함에 있어서 실용성과 대중성을 지닌 한국적인 복식을 표현할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 길상어문을 복식에 도입한 결과 현대적 감각으로 재구성된 길상어문이 단순한 라인의 현대적 실루엣에 차용됨로써 전통 고유미의 현대화에 좋은 조화를 보여 주었다. 넷째, 전통 길상어문을 재구성하여 디자인해 본 결과 디자인에 사용된 문양들은 장식적 효과를 높일 수 있었다. 다섯째, 기법의 선택에 있어서 패치워크, 누빔, 아플리케, 자수 등의 여러 가지 기법을 사용함으로써 전통적인 소재에 현대적인 디자인에 맞는 기법을 사용하여 각각의 디자인의 특성에 맞는 기법의 효과를 얻을 수 있었다. 여섯째, 상징성과 염원이 담긴 전통 길상어문을 현대복식에 도입함으로써 단순한 전통문양의 재현이 아닌 우리 고유의 의식 속에 있는 염원을 복식에 표출할 수 있는 가능성을 볼 수 있었다. 이러한 결론을 바탕으로 전통문양의 현대복식에 도입은 디자인 개발에 이어서 독창성과 전통성을 부각시킬 수 있으며 길상어문이 지닌 독특한 특징과 상징적인 의미들은 문양의 외형적인 재구성 등으로 현대적 개발의 효과적인 방안으로 제시될 수 있기 때문에 무한한 개발 가능성을 갖고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 전통의 현대화는 우리 민족의 독창미를 보여주는 것으로 세계무대에서 차별화 될 수 있는 것이다. 따라서 전통문양에서 모티브를 얻어 현대 감각에 알맞게 소화시켜 새로운 감각의 문양을 재창조하는 실질적인 디자인 창작의 제시가 이루어져야 한다. 이를 위해 전통에 대한 다각적이며 심도있는 연구와 현대화 할 수 있는 다양한 방법들이 지속적으로 연구되어야 할 것이다.;There are various traditional subjects being applied to our unique design, and they may be approached aesthetically in many sides. Recently, with the tendency of ethnic fashion of folk custom, the pattern has been recognized as special freshness that is commonly used in the world fashion as well as national uniqueness. With such trend, many designers have frequently attempted to express Korean tradition into fashion design to emboss our uniqueness as a part of new recognition of traditional culture in the fashion industry. Based on the above conditions, this study tried to review traditional patterns, one of our traditional culture to right understand our ancestors' spirit as well as their aesthetic sense shown in them and prepare an alternative to develop disappearing traditional patterns afterward by granting value to them. As theoretical background, first, this study tried to find a plan for modernistic recreation of traditional culture after establishing the concept of traditional culture and examined modern fashion expressing traditional elements. Second, this study examined definition and feature of the lucky physiognomy, one of elements of traditional culture, performed formative analysis through expression methods, kinds of the characters, the literature methods and type of the pattern of the lucky physiognomy text in the Josun Dynasty, and examined several applications of the lucky physiognomy pattern to modern design. For production of the work, motif of the lucky physiognomy pattern, as material, among our traditional patterns was restructured into a modern sense to get a new effect of the pattern. For expression content of the work, in expressing meaning of the lucky physiognomy in modern fashion, it was attempted to restructure into a modern sense by diagrammatization and abstraction. As expression methods, patchwork, quilt, applique and embroidery were used, and as material, handwoven silk was used to achieve high-grade modernization of Korean fashion. The results of analyzing, restructuring and expressing the pattern of the lucky physiognomy text into fashion in the aspect of succession and recreation of aesthetic sense of traditional culture are as follows; First, from the fact the traditionality defined in traditional culture has been applied from the past to the present, it can be seen that combination of the present age and the past, and tradition and future exists modernly. Second, in application of traditional elements to modern fashion, Korean fashion having practicability and popularity could be expressed through harmonization between the Korean image and the aesthetic sense common in the world. Third, as a result of introducing the lucky physiognomy pattern to fashion, the lucky physiognomy pattern restructured into a modern sense showed desirable harmony between traditional property and modern sense by application to the modern silhouette of simple line. Fourth, as a result of restructuring and drawing the traditional lucky physiognomy pattern, a new pattern of modern sense could be obtained, and the patterns used in the design improved the decorative effect of fashion. Fifth, in selection of technique, among various techniques including patchwork, quilt, applique and embroidery, technique suitable for modern design with traditional material was used, so effect of the technique suitable for the feature of each design could be obtained. Sixth, by introduction of the traditional lucky physiognomy pattern with symbolicity and wish into modem fashion, potential of expressing the wish immanent in our unique sense into a modern sense beyond simple expression of traditional pattern could be found. Based on the above results, it was concluded that introduction of traditional pattern into modern fashion can emboss originality and traditionality in design development and unique features and symbolic meanings of traditional patterns can be suggested as effective alternatives on modern development through external restructuring of patterns, so they have infinite possibilities of development. Since modernization of tradition can show our uniqueness, it can be differentiated in the world. Therefore, a practical suggestion for design creation shall be made to restructure properly a motif of traditional pattern into a modern sense and recreate it into a new sense of pattern. For this, many-sided and in-depth studies on tradition and various methods enabling modernization shall be continuously made.
