John Field의 Nocturne에 대한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 존 필드(John Field, 1782-1837)의 녹턴(Nocturne)에 대하여 연구한 것이다. 존 필드는 음악사에서 큰 자리를 차지하는 작곡가는 아니지만 」‘녹턴’의 창시자로서 중요한 위치에 서 있는 낭만주의 초기의 피아니스트이자 작곡가이다. 본 논문은 존 필드의 녹턴을 통해서 고전주의적인 특징과 혼재되어 있는 초기 낭만주의적인 새로운 시도와 개념들을 짚어보고, 존 필드의 녹턴이 가지는 예술적 가치와 음악사적 의미를 새롭게 정립하는데 그 의의를 두었다. 본 논문에서는 존 필드의 녹턴이 갖는 전체적인 특정을 개괄적으로 살펴본 후, 각각의 작품에서 눈에 띄게 드러나는 특징을 분석해봄으로써 고전주의적인 형식 속에서 낭만주의적인 새로운 시도와 개념을 어떻게 결합시키고 있는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 존 필드의 녹턴은 쇼팽의 녹턴보다 20년 가량 앞서는 것이고, `즉흥곡(Impromptu)'이나 '무언가(Lieder ohne Worte)'의 모태가 되는 '피아노로 연주하는 시'로서의 최초의 형식이다. 존 필드의 녹턴은 구조적으로는 단순한 가요형식(song form)의 고전주의적인 형식을 따르고 있으며, 화성적으로는 낭만주의적인 색채를 띤 화성적 경과구(harmonic passage)를 사용하고, 선율적으로는 서정성(cantilena)과 장식(coloratura)의 특징을 갖는다. 존 필드의 녹턴은 초기 낭만주의적인 특징이 압축되어있는 독창적인 작품으로 그 예술적 가치와 음악사적 의미가 크고, 존 필드는 '녹턴'을 창안함으로써 낭만주의적인 어법(idiom)과 피아니즘(pianism)을 확립한 인물로 새롭게 자리 매김 되어야 할 것이다.;This thesis is a study on John Field's Nocturne. John Field, from 1782 to 1837, is not a major composer in musical history, but is considered as an important composer of early romanticism because he created 'Nocturne'. The purposes of focusing on John Field's Nocturne are to analyze the new approaches and concepts of early romanticism, which are blended with those of classicism, and to reconsider the artistic values and significances in musical history. This thesis overviews with the general characteristics on John Field's Nocturne, and then focuses on the distinguishable characteristics of each work. Finally this thesis analyzes how the new approaches and concepts of early romanticism could be mixed with those of classicism. John Field's Nocturne is 20 years earlier than Chopin's. It was the first form as 'a poetry performed by the piano', which gave birth to 'Impromptu' and 'Lieder ohne Worte'. It succeeds the simple song form of classicism in the respect of the structure, utilizes the harmonic passages of romanticism in the respect of the harmony and has the characteristics of cantilena and coloratura in the respect of the melody. Since John Field's Nocturne is a creative work which contains the core characteristics of early romanticism, it could be revalued high in the respect of the artistic values and significances in musical history. Thus, John Field should be reconsidered as a distinguishable person who established tile idiom and pianism of romanticism through his work 'Nocturne'.
