황순원 소설의 <금기>구조 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 황순원 단편소설을 <금기>라는 구성원리로 살펴보고, 이를 통해 황순원 단편소설이 지니는 구조적이고 근본적인 서정성을 도출하는 데 있다. 즉 그의 단편소설이, 서정성과 서사성의 긴밀한 결합으로 이루어지는 문학적 양상과 그로 인한 통합적인 문학 경험을 지향하고 있다는 점에 주목한다. 황순원 문학의 서정적 특성은 기존의 여러 연구에서도 중요하게 거론되어 왔다. 그러나 그의 단편소설들에 대한 지금까지의 서정성 연구는 많은 문제점을 지니고 있다. 우선 황순원의 전 작품을 포괄하는 연구가 이루어지지 못했을 뿐만 아니라 서정성의 본질적인 측면을 제시하지 못하고 인상적인 비평에 머물고 있다. 특히 서정성과 서사성의 결합 양상을 무시한 채, 서정성만을 따로 떼어 고찰하고 있는 점은, 그 서정성을 연구하는 데 있어서 가장 큰 한계점으로 생각된다. 따라서 본 연구는 황순원 단편 소설의 작품 구성원리, 즉 서사적 구조를 밝히고, 이를 통해 그의 문학이 지니는 독특한 미의식, 즉 서정성을 규명하고자 한다. 작품 구성원리로는, 그의 작품에서 발견되는 설화적 틀에 주목하여 <금기>라는 구성원리를 추출하였다. <금기>의 유형화는, 그것이 서정성의 도출에 기여해야 한다는 측면에서, <금기>의 생성, 수용, 파괴라는 일반적인 분류을 큰 테두리로 하였다. 이를 바탕으로 Ⅱ장에서는 구체적인 작품 분석을 시도하였으며, <금기>의 생성, 수용, 파괴 구조에 따라 변별되는 각각의 서정성을 실제 작품 분석에서 도출하였다. Ⅲ장에서는 지금까지 황순원 단편소설을 중심으로 살펴본 <금기>의 문학적 의의를 그의 장편소설과 관련하여 고찰하였다. 각 <금기> 유형에 따른 서정성을 간략히 말한다면, 우선 <금기>의 생성은 세계의 자아화를 통해 그 서정성이 드러나고 있으며, <금기>의 수용은 자연과 인간의 합일을 문제삼고 있다. <금기> 파괴의 경우에는 그 <금기> 내면에 존재하는 욕망에 주목해야 한다. 이 욕망은, 결핍된 현실을 부정하고 자아의 이상적 세계를 표출하는 힘으로 작용한다는 점에서 서정성과 관련된다. 한편 이러한 서정성은 황순원 문학이 지니는 주제적 측면들, 즉 윤리적·규범적·당위적 인간에 앞서는 본질적인 인간에 대한 이해, 그 인간본성의 회복에 대한 추구, 주체적인 인간의지를 바탕으로 한 세계극복의 가능성 등으로 이어 진다. 설화의 대표적인 서사양식인 <금기>를 통해 살펴본 황순원 문학의 서정성은 그 작품 구성원리로서 말해질 수 있음은 물론, 그의 문학이 지향하는 주제적 측면을 이해하는 근간이 된다. 따라서 본고의 의의는 서사양식으로서만 말해져온 <금기>를 통해 황순원 단편문학의 서정성을 도출하고, 그 서정성이 작품 구성원리로서 작용함은 물론 그가 지향하는 작품 주제의 근간이 됨을 밝힌 데 있다.;This study has aimed at exploring the Hwang, Soon Won's short stories by application of <taboo> principle, and through this deep analysis extracting lyrical structure of his works. That is, this research notices that his short stiries intend aesthetic structure which is combined lyric and narration. Existing researches have had it a subject of discussion about lyrical aspect of his short stories, but they have many limitations. First of all, they did not dealt with his whole short stories. And also they stuck to impressionist criticism without presentation of essential lyric aspect. Especially, it is the most decisive limitation that we have researched the only one aspect (lyrical aspect), overlooking the combination of lyric and narration. So this thesis was intended to examine the structere of text, narrative form, and through this illuminate the aesthetic structure, lyrical aspect of Hwang's short stories. The <taboo> in Hwang's short stories was classified into the three classes in an attempt to extract the lyrical aspect. The classes are <formation>, <admition>, <destruction> of <taboo>. In chapter Ⅱ, I attempted the close analysis of text by <taboo> structure, and then extracted the lyrical aspect in accordance with each structure of the <formation>, <admition>, <destruction> of <taboo>. In chapter III, the significance of <taboo> sturucture examined in his short stories was looked into in relation to his full length novels. Referring to lyrical aspect in accordance with each structure of <taboo>, <formation> of <taboo> shows the lyric as self-identity of the world, <admition> of <taboo> as the unity of nature and human being. In case of <destruction> of <taboo>, we have to notice the desire which exists inside of <taboo>. The desire is closely related to lyric. It has the power to deny the lacked reality and express the ideal world. In addition to, this lyric is connected by understaning of the essential human being, pursuit of recovery of the human nature, possibility of overcomming the world grounded the independent human being's will. The lyrical aspect in the traditional narrative form, <taboo> is the main subjective factor, besides aesthetic structure in Hwang's short stories.
