북한 소학교 국어교과서에 나타난 정치사상교육 연구

Abstract

Object of this article is to find out the cause and evidence how North Korea's Chief magistrate idolization, ideological distinctiveness of North Korea, could be developed through educational system and understand the ideology of people of North Korea which have been set by the long term brainwash education and also grasp the functional principle of North Korea's society which moves according to the chief magistrate’s will. North Korea is very exclusive (closed) country under juche ideology, which makes people unite firmly. North Korea remains its dictatorship even after the break of Soviet Union, historical movement to change sociological country, death of the Leader Kim Il Sung, food suffrage, and economic poverty. North Korea's infringe upon human rights, vast number of refugees who escape North Korea, producing forgery and nuclear weapon threats have become already spotlight global issues and international society's economic sanction and a containment policy induces the collapse of North Korea's system. Then what is the reason why North Korea still can keep dictatorship system unlike many scholars' prediction that collapse of North Korea is the matter of time even through these worst situations. This is because North Korea had been educating people with general art of political ideology and general art of juche ideology. This helps the North Korean government to inhibit the social movement. North Korea brainwash people with these ideologies during the period when people establish the idea about politics and ideology. North Korea believe in the idea that "Linguistic is the main organ of ideology" so that they concentrate educating political ideology at linguistic class which consists 1/3 of whole primary educational system. North Korea established the foundation of the dictatorship since late 1950s. From 1961, school education which represents the political idea of the society, started to emphasize on their educational aim which is to idolize the chief magistrate by teaching them traditional revolution study and bring up new communist generation. Considering independence period as the first step of split of ideology of political education between North and South, ideological difference started deepen since 1960s when chief magistrate idolization education started. Since this period, every textbook of North Korea contained distinguishable context which emphasize novelty, tradition of revolution and class strife. These are for brainwash people of North Korea through educating them ideology as a general art instead of knowledge acquirement. Therefore, this article analyzed North Korean Textbook since 4th period of educational amendment which is the earnest period of idolizing education until the latest one which is 8th amendment. Through the result of periodical analysis, again, analyzed the formation factors of ideology and core educating factors. According to the result of studying North Korean primary school linguistic textbook, it divided into two big chapters which are linguistic theory, and ideology study. Ideology chapter can be specified into three units which are idolization unit, class and tradition of revolution study. A percentage of units which purely contains only linguistic theory are 6% at 4th amendment, 0% at 5th, 20.5% at 6th and 16% at 8th. these rates are definitely not high rates and exclude these units; more than 80% of the book contains several general study for ideology and Korean theory study at the same time centered by loyalty toward the Leader Kim Il Sung. 73% of the Korean textbook is filled with the contents which idolize family of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jung Il. according to the fact that this portion had not been changed much since 4th amendment till 8th amendment, goal of North Korean political education which is aiming to educate general study of loyalty towards Leader Kim Il Sung. North Korea focuses on making legitimacy of succession of Kim Il Sung's Leader position by Kim Jung Il and reckless faith and loyalty towards Kim Il Sung by educating them during the primary school period which is the time when human being structures concept of ideology and political disposition. There are two core factors which helps structuring loyalty and idolizing Kim Il Sung. They are ‘paternalistic configuration’ and ‘heroic configuration’towards Kim Il Sung. North Korea perverted Kim Il Sung and his family's power and call Kim Il Sung as Father of North Korean people and also Great Leader so that student's role is to show respect and loyalty toward Father Kim Il Sung. ‘Paternalistic configuration’of Kim Il Sung is to emphasize that he is the one who lead the independence from Japan's colonization and he is the father who gave new vital political life to the people of North Korea. The percentage of unit which contains the ‘paternalistic configuration’ of Kim Il Sung and his Family is 43% at 4th amendment, 52% at 5th, 35% at 6th, and 36% at 8th. Frequency of using words, Father, Mother or Parents has been increased constantly. Particularly 5th and 6th amendment used Father (122 times at 5th, 283 times at 6th) more frequently than the name Leader (110 times at 5th, 157 times at 6th). This shows that they have started to emphasize on paternalistic view on Kim Il Sung during these two period. Using the word Father directly by the primary school student helped people of North Korea to think Kim Il Sung as their real Father unconsciously. This ‘paternalistic configuration’ contains the feudal Confucian Idea that child should show great devotion and loyalty to their parents which is the base idea of Korean society historically. Because of this, it's easy for North Korea to implement the idea that people should show great devotion and loyalty towards Father Kim Il Sung who saved our country from devil, Japan. Therefore, it is to say that ‘paternalistic configuration’ of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jung Il is the basic reason why people of North Korea show absolute devotion and loyalty. ‘Heroic Configuration’of Kim Il Sung propagate Kim Il Sung's achievement and personality such as his grand looking appearance and remarkable power. This unit contains description of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jung Il's supernatural characteristic so educate students to have absolute loyalty and admiration toward them. This unit takes more than half portion of the textbook, 54% at 4th, 67% at 5th, 47% at 6th and 55% at 8th amendment. According to the result by researching on the portion of leadership factors to propagate great leader figure takes more than 70% portion of the textbook and it educate greatness and honesty. Thus, Korean textbook of primary school in North Korea is focusing on educating loyalty towards leader and idolizing leader since 4th to 8th amendment of educational system. From the sixth educational amendment, North Korean government started education on such ideologies as the followings not only in order to justify the power and authority of Kim Jung Il who does not have any anti- Japanese achievement and tradition of revolution but also to establish the strong dictatorship for sure. First, they added the chapters and the title to educate North Koreans to consider Kim Il Sung and Kim Jung Il as equal chief magistrate, the parents of the people, and the great leader. Secondly, the new chapter which justifies Kim Jung Il's achievements on developing socialism country and also propagandize his financial contribution to the people emerged. Thirdly, the new chapter to justify the inheritance of the authority of Kim Jung Il was introduced from the 6the educational amendment. The work to configure Kim Jung Il as the parent of the people, and as the great chief magistrate started in earnest from the 6 th amendment and it crossed the ratio in 8th amendment. The "Identification of configuration" job which convince people to recognize Kim Il Sung and Kim Jung Il as equal identity was such a success that it is written as "Our father Kim Jung Il who is exactly identical to our generalissimo Kim Il Sung" in the textbook of 8th amendment. As a result of the ideology education which was focused in 5th and 6th educational amendment, furthermore, the textbook of 8th amendment admires Kim Jung Il as the only chief magistrate. Like above, the amendments from 4 to 8 are intentionally designed for the preparation of inheritance of authority from Kim Il Sung to Kim Jung Il and it is educating students to pay endless respect and loyalty to Kim Jung Il and Kim Il sung through the identification process of these two people. Class strife unit which is in charge of communism education is occupying 20percent of time average. They can be classified as inspirational member with anti- USA, Anti Japan, Anti Capitalism, groupism and as propagandism member who promotes the superiority of the socialism and abuse but also falsify South Korea. As a result of analyzing the class strife unit, various communism education and the education on the loyalty to the chief magistrate is being done in compound and all the educational elements are ultimately about chief magistrate's achievements, and loyalty to him. For example, the inspirational members who inspire the anti US and anti Japan feeling are educating such unconditional enmity and hatred toward USA and Japan by strongly emphasizing that they are the enemy of North Korean. Moreover, it is applauding Kim Il Sung's achievement of liberating North Korea from these two countries and establishing socialism policy. Like above, they are educating people to have stronger loyalty as the caste system is planted deeper by connecting it with the virtue of the chief magistrate. Tradition of revolution unit is aimed to make people to recognize the greatness of Kim Il Sung and his family and it is constituted by two main units. One is about the history of struggle and it shows the great achievement of Kim Il Sung, Kim Jung Sook(first wife of Kim Il Sung), Kang Ban Suk(Mother of Kim Il Sung), and Kim Hyung Jik(Father of Kim Il Sung) against Japan. This propagates the greatness of Kim Il Sung and his family. Another unit is about the succession of tradition of revolution and it praises the loyalty of guerrillas who devoted their life for Father Kim Il Sung and insist that people should follow the footstep of these guerrillas and show loyalty until the end of their life. Thus, the whole tradition of revolution unit also fundamentally aims educating the loyalty towards Kim Il Sung and Kim Jung Il. North Korea increased the efficiency of loyalty education by focusing both communism ideology unit and tradition of revolution unit on loyalty education. Linguistic class also aims to extend the linguistic proficiency to express the admiration and loyalty toward father Kim Il Sung with their all heart by combining theory study and ideology study. Therefore, North Korea's linguistic textbook is used for complex ideology study book to cultivate loyalty towards father Kim Il Sung through extend the linguistic proficiency. They develop new textbook according to the wave of the era and political intention. This article have researched on structuring factors of ideology, which counts the loyalty towards the leader and changing process of political education in North Korea as the most prestigious sense, by analyzing linguistic textbook since the 4th educational amendment when the leader idolizing education have started in earnest until now. North Korea endlessly emphasize on the absolute loyalty and admiration towards Chief Magistrate through linguistic class which take 1/3 portion of educational system during primary school period, which is the period when students form the idea of ideology and personality. Concept of North Korea’s ideology education, which considers the loyalty towards Leader as the most prestigious sense, vastly influence on formation of abnormal ideology of North Korean. I discovered that this, as a factor of ideology formation, is the product of combination of classical dictatorship ideology from Stalin and Korean Feudal Confucianism. Again, it is the unique ideology which is the product of combination of Principle of functioning of North Korea, which is to follow the Leader’s will, feudal patriarchic Confucianism which rules the consciousness of North Korean and leader dictatorship ideology of Stalin. This is the fundamental source how North Korea can keep herself as the only one dictatorship and isolated country in the world.;본 논문의 연구목적은 북한의 사상적 특수성이라고 할 수 있는 수령숭배사상, 수령결사옹위정신과 같은 비정상적인 사상성이 학교교육을 통하여 발전할 수 있었던 원인과 근거를 밝혀 오랜 기간 동안 세뇌교육으로 단련된 북한인민의 사상적 측면을 이해하고 수령의 뜻대로 움직이는 북한사회의 작동원리를 파악하는데 그 목적이 있다. 북한은 주체사상을 중심으로 전 인민이 단결하고 있는 폐쇄적인 국가이다. 북한은 1990년대의 소비에트 연방 해체, 사회주의 국가 변혁이라는 세계사적 변화와 최고 지도자 김일성의 사망, 식량난, 경제적 빈곤이라는 국내 상황의 악화에 직면하면서도 폐쇄적인 독재정권을 유지하고 있다. 이처럼 북한이 최악의 상황을 견뎌내며 지금까지 독재체제를 유지할 수 있는 이유는 교육 분야에서 점진적이며 의도적으로 진행된 정치사상교양과 주체사상교양이 사회억제효과를 발휘하고 있기 때문일 것이다. 북한은 인간의 정치적 정향과 사상형성에 큰 영향을 미치는 아동시기의 학교 교육을 통하여 반복적이고 집중적인 세뇌교육을 진행하고 있다. 특히 “언어는 사상을 형성하는 기관”이라는 언어적 특성과 소학교 교육과정의 1/3시간을 차지하는 기초교육의 특성을 고려하여 국어교육에서 집중적인 정치사상교육을 진행하고 있다. 북한은 1950년대 후반부터 수령 독재체제의 기반을 형성하였다. 1961년부터는 그 사회의 정치적 이념을 반영하는 학교교육에서 김일성에 대한 우상화 교육을 위하여 혁명전통교양과 새로운 공산주의형 인간양성을 위한 교육목표를 강조하기 시작하였다. 남한과 북한의 정치교육 이념이 분리되는 첫 단계를 해방시기로 본다면 그 이념의 차이가 심화되는 시기는 김일성에 대한 우상화 교육이 본격화된 1960년대 이후라고 볼 수 있다. 이 시기부터 북한의 국어교과서는 수령에 대한 충실성, 혁명전통, 계급투쟁교양 등 지식습득을 위한 내용보다 사상교양을 위한 내용으로 일색화 되었다. 이에 본 논문에서는 우상화 교육이 본격화 된 교육개정 4기부터 현재 8기까지의 국어교과서를 시기별로 분석하여 그 변화과정과 핵심지도요소, 사상성의 형성요인을 분석하였다. 북한의 소학교 국어교과서를 분석한 결과 교과서의 단원은 국어이론교육을 위한 단원과 사상교양을 위한 단원으로 나눌 수 있으며 사상교양단원은 김일성과 그 일가에 대한 우상화단원, 계급성교양단원, 혁명전통교양으로 세분화된다. 순수히 국어이론만을 교육하는 단원은 4기 6%, 5기 0%, 6기 20.5%, 8기 16%로 그 비율이 높지 않으며 이 단원들을 제외한 평균 80%이상의 단원에서 수령에 대한 충실성 교양을 중심으로 한 여러 가지 사상교양과 국어교육이 동시·복합적으로 이루어지고 있다. 국어교과서에서 김일성과 그 일가를 우상화하고 수령에 대한 충실성교양의 지도요소를 내포하는 단원은 평균 73%로 가장 많은 비중을 차지하고 있으며 교육개정 4기부터 8기까지 그 비율의 변동이 적은 것으로 보아 30년이 넘는 세월동안 김일성 일가에 대한 충실성 교양을 목표로 하는 북한정치교육의 목적은 변하지 않았음을 알 수 있다. 북한은 아동들의 사상과 정치적 정향 형성에 큰 영향을 미치는 소학교 시기의 국어교육을 통하여 수령에 대한 맹목적인 믿음과 충성심, 김일성에서 김정일로 이어지는 후계체제의 정당성을 집중적으로 교양하였다. 김일성에 대한 우상화와 충성의식을 형성하는 핵심교양요소는 김일성가족을 인민의 어버이로 형상화하는 ‘어버이형상화’와 수령의 위대성을 선전하는 ‘수령형상화’작업에 있다. 북한은 김일성과 그 일가에 대한 과장·왜곡된 형상화작업을 통하여 그들이 인민의 어버이이자 위대한 지도자임을 각인시키고 그들의 업적과 은덕에 대하여 효성과 충성을 다하는 것이 학생의 도리임을 세뇌하고 있다. 김일성에 대한 어버이형상화는 김일성이 일제로부터 민족을 해방시키고 사회주의제도를 건설하여 모든 인민에게 새로운 ‘정치적 생명’을 준 인민의 어버이란 점을 강조하는 것이다. 김일성과 그 일가를 인민의 어버이로 형상화하는 단원은 교육개정 4기 43%, 5기 56%, 6기 35%, 8기 36%의 비율을 차지하고 있으며 김일성과 그 가계 구성원을 직접적으로 아버지, 어머니, 어버이로 호칭하는 빈도도 높아지고 있다. 특히 5기와 6기는 수령이라는 일반적인 호칭(5기 110회, 6기 157회)보다 아버지라는 호칭(5기 122회, 6기 283회)의 빈도가 더 높게 나타나 5~6기에 집중적인 어버이형상화 작업이 있었음을 알 수 있다. 김일성 일가에 대한 직접적인 호칭의 사용은 어린학생들로 하여금 무의식적으로 쉽고 빠르게 그들을 인민의 어버이로 인식하도록 돕고 있다. 어버이 형상화는 자식이 부모에게 효성과 충성을 다하듯 모든 인민이 어버이수령에게 충성을 다해야 한다는 봉건적인 유교 사상을 담고 있다. 때문에 이러한 사상교양을 받은 북한 인민들은 간고한 항일투쟁을 통하여 나라를 되찾아주고 누구나 잘사는 사회주의조국을 발전시킨 김일성, 김정일을 친어버이보다 더 소중히 받들어 모시며 그들에게 끝없는 충성과 효성을 다해야 한다고 굳게 믿고 있는 것이다. 이처럼 김일성 부자에 대한 어버이 형상화는 수령에 대한 절대적인 충성심과 애정이 우러나오는 근본원인으로 나타나고 있다. 수령의 업적과 인품을 선전하는 ‘위대한 수령 형상화’는 김일성과 그 일가의 업적과 도덕적 풍모, 비범한 능력 등을 선전하여 그들을 위대한 존재로 형상화하는 것이다. 이 단원에서는 김일성 부자를 초인적인 존재, 완벽한 존재로 묘사하면서 그들에 대한 흠모와 절대적 충성심을 교양하고 있다. 위대한 수령 형상화단원은 교육개정 4기 54%, 5기 67%, 6기 47%, 8기 55%로 교과서의 절반이상을 차지하고 있다. 이처럼 북한 소학교 국어교과서는 교육개정 4기부터 현재 8기까지 절반 이상의 단원에서 수령을 우상화하고 수령에 대한 충실성 교양에 집중하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 교육개정 6기부터는 항일업적과 혁명전통의 기반이 없는 김정일의 권력세습을 정당화하고 유일지도체계를 확립하기 위하여 다음과 같은 사상교양을 시작하였다. 첫째, 김일성과 김정일을 동일한 수령, 인민의 어버이, 위대한 지도자로 교양하는 단원과 호칭을 추가하였다. 둘째, 김정일이 사회주의 조국을 발전시킨 업적과 인민에게 베푸는 풍부한 물질적 혜택을 선전하는 단원이 등장하였다. 셋째, 교육개정 6기부터 김정일의 권력계승을 정당화하는 단원이 등장하였다. 김정일을 인민의 어버이, 위대한 수령으로 형상화하는 작업은 교육개정 6기에 본격적으로 시작되어 8기에는 김일성 우상화단원의 비율을 넘어섰다. 김일성과 김정일을 동일한 존재로 인식시키는 ‘동일형상화’작업 또한 성공적으로 진행되어 8기교과서에는 김정일을 ‘대원수님과 꼭 같으신 우리의 아버지 김정일 원수님’이라고 칭하고 있다. 교육개정 5, 6기에 집중적으로 진행된 사상교양의 결과 8기 교과서에서는 김정일을 북한의 새로운 어버이이자 유일한 수령으로 칭송하고 있다. 이와 같이 소학교 국어교과서는 교육개정 4기부터 8기까지 김일성에서 김정일로 이어지는 권력세습을 대비하여 의도적인 교과서 개발이 이루어졌으며 김일성과 김정일에 대한 ‘어버이형상화’와 ‘동일형상화’를 통하여 그들을 어버이로 인식하고 끊임없는 효성과 충성을 다하도록 교양하고 있다. 공산주의 교양을 맡고 있는 계급성 교양단원은 시기평균 20%정도를 차지하고 있으며 반미, 반일, 반지주·자본 투쟁심 고취단원, 집단주의와 노동의식을 고취단원, 사회주의제도의 우월성을 선전단원, 남한을 비방하고 왜곡선전하는 단원으로 분류할 수 있다. 계급성 교양단원의 내용을 분석한 결과 다양한 공산주의 사상교양과 수령에 대한 충실성 교양이 복합적으로 이루어지고 있으며 모든 교양요소들은 결국 수령의 업적, 은덕 등 수령에 대한 충실성 교양에 귀결하고 있다. 예를 들어 반미, 반일 감정을 고취하는 단원에서는 미국과 일본이 조선 인민의 원수라고 강조하면서 두 나라에 대한 무조건적인 증오심, 적개심을 교양하고 있으며 일본과 미국으로부터 나라를 해방시키고 사회주의제도를 건설한 김일성의 업적을 칭송하고 있다. 이와 같이 계급투쟁의식교양과 수령의 업적, 은덕교양을 병합한 결과 계급의식이 깊어질수록 수령에 대한 흠모와 충성심이 강해지도록 교양하고 있다. 혁명전통교양은 김일성과 그 일가의 위대성을 전 인민에게 역사적으로 인식시키기 위한 작업으로써 교과서에서는 김일성의 항일투쟁사를 교양하는 단원과 이 혁명전통의 계승성을 교양하는 단원으로 분류할 수 있다. 투쟁역사를 선전하는 단원에서는 김일성과 김정숙, 강반석, 김형직의 항일투쟁업적과 훌륭한 혁명가정의 모습을 부각시켜 김일성과 그 일가에 대한 위대성을 선전하고 있다. 혁명전통의 계승성을 교양하는 단원에서는 유격대, 아동단, 인민군이 수령을 목숨으로 지켜낸 혁명적 의리를 칭송하면서 그들을 인민의 영웅으로 칭송하고 그들을 따라 배워 김일성에게 끝까지 충성하도록 교양하고 있다. 이처럼 혁명전통교양단원에서도 김일성과 김정일에 대한 충성교양이 궁극적인 목표로 나타나고 있다. 북한은 공산주의 사상교양과 혁명전통교양을 수령에 대한 충실성 교양에 집중시킴으로써 충실성교양의 효과를 더욱 높이고 있다. 국어교육에서도 이론교육과 사상교양을 병행하며 수령에 대한 충성심과 애정을 언어로 표현하기 위한 국어능력신장을 목표로 하고 있다. 이처럼 북한의 국어교과서는 국어능력신장을 통하여 수령에 대한 충성심을 기르는 다기능학습서로 쓰여 지고 있으며 시대의 흐름과 정치적 의도에 따라 교과서를 개발하고 있다. 본 논문은 수령우상화교육이 본격화되는 교육개정 4기부터 현재까지의 국어교과서를 분석하여 북한 정치교육의 변화과정과 수령에 대한 충실성을 최고의 의리로 여기는 사상성의 형성요인을 연구하였다. 북한은 학생들의 인성과 사상의식이 형성되는 소학교과정에서 총 교육시간의 1/3을 차지하고 있는 국어과목을 통하여 수령에 대한 절대적 충성과 효성을 끊임없이 강조하고 있다. 김일성을 인민의 어버이와 최고의 수령으로 형상화하는 북한의 충실성교양은 인민들의 비정상적인 사상성 형성에 큰 영향을 미치고 있으며 이러한 사상성의 형성요인은 한국의 봉건적인 유교사상과 스탈린으로부터 계승한 계급독재사상이 결합된 새로운 사상성의 산물임을 밝혀냈다. 수령의 뜻에 따라 움직이는 북한사회의 작동원리와 북한인민의 의식을 지배하는 사상성은 봉건가부장적인 유교사상과 스탈린의 수령독재사상의 결합이 만들어낸 북한만의 독특한 사상이며 북한을 세계유일의 독재국가, 고립국가로 유지시키는 사상적 힘의 원천이 되고 있다.
