손창섭 소설의 아이러니 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 이중의 속성을 특징으로 하는 손창섭의 소설을 아이러니의 기법으로 분석하여 심층의 주제를 끌어내고 이를 바탕으로 작가의 문학세계를 밝히는 것이 목적이다. 본고는 먼저 자아와 세계의 관계맺기의 양상에 따라 손창섭의 소설을 전기 소설과 후기 소설로 나누었다. 그리고 Greimas의 이론에 따라 서사물의 구조는 결합적 원리에 입각한 표층구조와 계열적 원리에 입각한 심층구조로 이루어진다고 보고, 표층구조를 이루는 인물과 행위의 층위에서 손창섭 소설의 표층 텍스트를, 심층구조를 이루는 서술의 층위에서 손창섭 소설의 심층 텍스트를 분석하여 각각이 함의하고 있는 이면의 의미를 고찰하였다. Ⅱ장은 전기 소설을 대상으로 한다. 손창섭의 소설은 전후의 개인과 사회가 모두 정체성을 상실했다는 인식에서 출발한다. 그래서 손창섭의 소설적 주제는 존재의 본질을 탐색하고 삶의 방향성을 궁구하여 부서진 정체성을 재건하려는 것으로 수렴된다. 이를 전기 소설에서는 세계 속의 자아를 주목하는 것으로 형상화한다. 즉, 손창섭은 전기 소설에서 인간 존재의 의미와 문제점을 지적하고 인간의 각성을 통해 존재의 좌표를 설정하고자 했다는 것이다. 그래서 전기 소설의 초점은 인간 자체의 문제로 수렴되고, 아이러니의 대립물 역시 인간의 표면과 이면이라는 지엽적인 것에 한정되어 있다. 그러므로 전기 소설의 아이러니는 수사적 성격이 강하다 하겠다. 전기 소설의 아이러니는 양면적 인물의 온정적이고 관계 지향적인 면모를 보여주고, '가다'라는 행위를 통해 비루한 현실을 탈출하여 새로운 삶을 모색하고자 하는 내면의 욕망을 보여주며, 서술자가 초점인물을 비판하는 것으로 일상성의 회복과 행동성의 촉구 및 위선의 철폐를 보여주는 장치로 작용한다. 이처럼 분석의 각 층위에서 나타난 이면의 진의(眞意)는 결국 전기 소설이 인간의 진정성을 역설하고 있음을 시사한다. 이로써 손창섭은 폐허의 현실에서 인간의 각성을 통해 올바른 삶의 방향이 무엇인가를 드러냈다고 볼 수 있다. Ⅲ장은 후기 소설을 대상으로 한다. 존재와 삶의 좌표를 찾는 일은 손창섭 문학의 일관된 주제이다. 그러므로 후기 소설 역시 이러한 자장 속에서 전개된다. 이를 후기 소설에서는 자아를 통해 세계를 보는 것으로 형상화한다. 즉, 손창섭은 후기 소설에서 자아와 상호작용하는 세계의 문제로 관심의 영역을 확대하여 세계의 본질을 피력하고 자아를 억압하고 왜곡하는 세계의 폭력성을 고발했다는 것이다. 그래서 후기 소설의 초점은 자아와 세계의 문제로 수렴되고, 아이러니의 대립물은 자아와 세계라는 거시적인 것으로 넓혀진다. 그러므로 후기 소설의 아이러니는 세계 인식적 성격이 강하다고 하겠다. 후기 소설의 아이러니는 이상적 인물을 곡해하는 가정과 사회의 폭압성을 보여주고, '헤어지다'라는 행위를 통해 긍정적 소망을 좌절시키는 외부의 힘을 보여주며, 서술자가 초점인물에 밀착하는 것을 통해 역으로 이들과 대척되는 세계가 가진 이기심과 위선을 비판하는 장치로 작용한다. 이로써 손창섭은 우선 이상적 인물 - 손창섭이 전기 소설에서 역설한 가치가 그대로 투영된 인물로서 전기 소설과 후기 소설을 표면과 이면이라는 아이러니의 구조로 연결시키는 기능을 한다- 마저도 좌초시키는 세계의 폭력성을 역설한 후, '유연한 에이런'이 되어 현실 속에서 현실을 이겨나가야함을 피력한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 본고는 손창섭 소설의 심층 텍스트까지를 분석의 대상으로 삼아 그의 일관된 창작 기법인 아이러니의 방법으로 작품을 조망하여 손창섭 문학의 지속적인 주제인 인간과 삶의 방향성 문제가 어떤 모습으로 형상화되었는지를 살펴보았다. 결론적으로 손창섭의 소설은 죽음 속에서 삶을, 허무 속에서 본질을, 부조리 속에서 진실을 발견해 가는 지난한 과정이었고 이를 통해 '지금 여기'의 문제에 천착하여 현실에 뿌리내리려 하였으며 전후의 현실을 부정함으로써 그것을 극복해 나간다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다고 할 수 있을 것이다.;This thesis analyzed Son, Chang Seop's novels, which were marked by the double attribute, by the technique of irony in order to pull out the inner subject, and then cleared the writer's literature world on the basis of it as the purpose of study. This thesis, first of all, divided Son, Chang Seop's novels into the former term novels and the latter term novels according to the aspect of forming a connection with the self and the world. And, according to the Greimas' theory, the epic work's structure was considered to be consisted of the outer structure that was based to the connection principle and the inner structure that was based to the interrelation principle. Therefore, not only Son, Chang Seop's novels' outer texts were analyzed on the layer of person and action that formed the outer structure, but also his inner texts were analyzed on the layer of description that formed the inner structure. Then, the other side meanings that implied each one were investigated. Chapter Ⅱ was taken the fictional biography as the subject. Son, Chang Seop's novels were started in the recognition that the individual and the society of the postwar lost the identity. So, Son, Chang Seop's romantic subjects were converged to reconstruct the broken identity by searching the essence of existence and by malting the exhaustive study of the direction of life. This was materialized as watching self in the world inside in the former term novels. That is, Son, Chang Seop indicated the meaning and the problem of human existence in his former term novels. And he wished to establish the coordinates of existence through human's awakening. So, the former term novels' focus was collected to the problem of human himself, and the confrontation of irony was also limited to the nonessential thing of human's surface and the other side. Therefore, the irony of former term novels will be said that the rhetorical character is strong. The irony of former term novels shows the warm-hearted and relation oriented countenance of the double-faced person, and shows the inside desire that wishes to grope the new life bailing out the base actuality through 'Go' action. And also acts as the device that shows the recovery of dailiness, the stimulation of action, and the abolition of hypocrisy by narrator's criticizing the focused person. Such like it, the real intention of inside story that appears on the analytical each layer previews finally that the former term novels emphasizes the human's reality. Herewith, Son, Chang Seop is regarded that he showed what was the direction of right life through human's awakening in the actuality of ruins. Chapter Ⅲ took the latter term novels as the subject. Finding the existence and the coordinates of life are the consistent subject in Son, Chang Seop's literary. Therefore, the latter term novels are also developed in such magnetic field. This is materialized as seeing the world through self in his latter term novels. That is, Son, Chang Seop not only expanded his interest area to the world problems that interacted with the self in his latter term novels and tried to reveal the world essence, but also he prosecuted the world violence to oppress and distort the self. So, the focus of latter term novels becomes to be collected to the self and the world problems, and the confrontation of irony becomes to be widened to the macroscopic views of the self and the world. Therefore, the irony of latter term novels may be said that the personality of world realization is strong. The latter term novels showed the oppression of home and society which misinterpreted the ideal person, and showed the external force that frustrated the positive hope through 'separation' action, Besides, the irony operated as the device to criticize the egoistic mind and the hypocritical act that the antipodes world to them had adversely through the narrator stuck to the focused person. Herewith, Son, Chang seop may be regarded that he first emphasized the world violence grounding even the ideal person-he, as a person who the value was projected as it was by emphasizing in the former novels of Son, Chang Seop, was had the function to connect the former and latter novels with the irony structure which was called the surface and the other side-and then he expressed to overcome the actuality in the reality by becoming 'Soft Eiron'. The analytical subject was given to the depth text of Son, Chang Seop's novels in this thesis and his novels were taken a view of the works by the method of irony that was his consistent creative technique so that the direction problem of human and life that was the continuous subject of Son, Chang Seop's literary might be examined what image was materialized. Conclusively, Son, Chang Seop's novels showed the long process to make the progress toward detecting the life in death, the essence in nothingness, and the truth in irrationality. Through this, not only he tried to take the root in the reality by clinging to the problem of 'Now Here', but also he went forward to overcome it with the deny of actuality after the postwar. His works may retain the meaning from such viewpoint.
