초현실주의 회화에 있어서의 데페이즈망에 관한 연구

Abstract

超現實主義 회화의 진정한 출발점은 근대미술의 展開과정에서 형성된 낭만주의 미술과 상징주의 미술에서 찾을 수 있다. 낭만주의 미술은 계몽주의 시대부터 시작된 合理的 이성의 중심성이나, 절대성을 부정하는 차원에서 발생되었다. 이성의 중심성은 이해하고, 용인하기 어려운 인간의 비합리적인 열정이나 속정들을 監禁하거나, 排除하거나, 추방시킴으로써, 그것들을 비존재화 하려 하였다. 그러한 과정에서 비인간화 현상이다, 병리 현상이 싹트게 되었다. 비합리적인 현상은 감금으로써 배제시킬 수 없는 세계와 인간의 본질이기 때문에, 배제된 비합리적인 현상이 문제를 야기시키리라는 것은 자명한 사실이라 할 수 있다. 낭만주의는 무한한 대상에 대한 憧憬을 추구하고, 그것을 형상화하게 됨으로써 인간의 비합리적인 속성에 대한 깊은 이해를 보여주게 된다. 그러한 낭만주의 회화는 초현실주의 회화와 본질적으로 깊숙히 연계되어 있으며, 데페이즈망 기법의 창출에 美術史적인 배경을 이루게 된다. 상징주의 미술 역시 신비의 세계를 추구하고, 그것을 상징적으로 형상화 함으로써 초현실주의와 깊은 관련성을 보여 주게 된다. 그러나 상징주의 작가들은 신화의 虛構性을 해체하려 하기 보다는 그것을 현실적 인식으로 현실화 시킴으로써, 현실의 허구성을 비판, 해체하려는 초현실주의 회화와는 어느정도 偏差를 드러내게 된다. 그러나 상징주의 미술에서 사용된 기법들은 초현실주의 회화에서 의미하는 데페이즈망 기법이라 불러도 무방할 정도로 기법의 類似性을 보여주게 된다. 낭만주의와 상징주의 미술 이후, 현대 미술의 전개과정에서 초현실주의 회화에 직접적인 영향을 미치게 된 것으로 다다이즘, 제 1차 세계대전, Sigmund Freud의 정신분석이론, Andre′Breton의 초현실주의선언 등을 들 수 있다. 다다이즘의 부정정신과 그것을 구현하기 위한 우연적 효과에 대한 방법적인 偏向은 초현실주의 회화와 데페이즈망의 창출에 많은 영향을 주게 된다. 또한 제1차 세계 대전은 인간의 비합리적 속성의 파괴력과 지배력을 입증시켜 준 예라고 할 수 있다. 그 이후 그러한 비합리적인 속성에 대한 지적 탐구 분위기가 형성되는데, 그러한 과정은 초현실주의 회화가 성립되고 공감대를 확산시켜 나갈 수 있는 현실적인 배경이 되는 것이다. 프로이드의 정신분석 이론은 인간의 무의식을 과학적인 이성과 방법으로 탐구함으로써, 초현실주의 회화에 이론을 제공하게 된다. 앙드레 부르통의 초현실주의 선언은 그러한 프로이드의 이론을 예술화 시키려는 운동으로, 그러한 과정에서 오토마티즘과 de′paysement이 탄생하게 된다. 데페이즈망의 기본 원리는 현실적인 대상들을 낮선 장소에 위치시키고, 조합시킴으로써, 현실적인 의미, 용도, 기능을 상실케 하여 초현실적 환상을 만들어 내려는 것이라 할 수 있다. 이러한 데페이즈망은 초현실주의 회화에서 고안되고, 이후 작가의 표현의도에 따라 다양한 변화를 보여주게 된다. 그러한 데페이즈망 기법을 사용하는 작가가 시대나, 역사나, 현실에 대한 비판의식을 상실할 경우, 즉 아방가르드정신을 忘却할 경우, 安逸한 유희나 백일몽 같은 몽롱하고 애매한 환상을 만들어 내어, 도피나 퇴행의 분위기를 조장하게 될 것이다.; Strictly speaking, the surrealist paintings started from the Romantic arts and the Symbolism arts which came into being during the introduction of the ancient arts. The Romantic arts started at first in denying the heart and sbsoluteness of rational reasons which were born in the period of enlightenment. The hearts of reasons confined, excluded, and expelled any human fervor or attribute which had been hard to understand or recognize to make it not to be present. Meanwhile, inhuman or pathological began to develop. Since the unreasonable phenomena are the nature of a world or a man that cannot possibly be abled to be expelled simply by confinement or expulsion, it is very clear to predict that any expelled unreasonable phenomena would give rise to some problems. As pursuing a longing for an infinite object and producing it phenomenally, Romanticism tends to show a deep understanding of a man's unreasonable attributes. Such a Romantic painting is fully associated with Surrealism substantially, and came to contribute to the creation of De´paysement technology in the history of arts. A Symbolic painting also pursues a mystical world and produces it phenomenally to show its full relationship with Surrealism. The Symbolic artists, however, make efforts to materialize the fabrications of mythology practically rather than to criticize them as the Surrealistic artists would do. In this sense, they differ from the latter to some degree. The techniques employed by the Symbolism, however, are similiar to those done by the Surrealistic to the extent that they can be called De´ paysement techniques in the sense of the Surrealist paintings. Since the period of Romanticism and Symbolism, Surrealism has been directly influenced in the context of modern arts by Dadaism, the 1st Wolrd War, Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis, and Andre´ Breton's Surrealist Declaration. A sort of methodological one-sideness about the negative assertion of Dadaism and its causal effects resulting from realizing the assertion came to contribute much to the development of Surrealist paintings and De´paysement. Another international event, World War I, is one of the examples showing the destructive and ruling power in man's unreasonble attributes. From then, and intelligent study on such unreasonable attributes began largely. It is the basis on which Surrealist paintings improve and common sympathy arises increasingly and practically. Freud's psychoanalysis provided the Surrealist paintings with a theory by looking into man's unconsciousness with scientific reasons and methods. Andre Breton's Surrealist Declaration, a movement to promote Freud's theory to the extent of fine arts, contributes to the creation of Automatism and De´paysement. The elementary principle of De´paysement is to produce a surrealistic illusion by placing practical figures at a strange place and combining them together to have their practical meanings, uses, and functions lost. From then this De´paysement has been designed in the Surrealist paintings and varied differently by artists in accordance with their intentions. If artists using such a De´paysement techniques might lose their critical faculty on their period, history, or reality, e.g. the spirit of avant-garde, they are more likely to produce indistinct and obscure illusions such as plays or daydreams only to encourage an atmosphere of escape or degeneration.
