청소년 오케스트라의 합주활동 실태조사 및 개선방안 연구

Abstract

Musical training is known to be one of the most direct and effective ways to upgrade the life quality of adolescents. Playing in musical ensembles presents students with broader artistic experience than learning privately, which enhances the understanding of music. At the same time, it is very effective in that it gives them motivation to enjoy and participate actively in music. To give the experience of musical collaboration to the students who play instruments, many schools are developing after school programs, and many community organizations are founding youth orchestras. In the last few years, the number of youth orchestras increased, where they educate teens through performances, weekly ensemble lessons as well as private lessons and more. But there haven’t been many studies on youth orchestras, which makes it difficult to know the status of each organization, and because of the poor communication between orchestras, systematic and professional operation is suffering to achieve. This study examines the reality of youth orchestras throughout the country, especially in the Seoul and Gyungi region. It investigates and analyses the curriculums, environment, how active the organizations are, and how satisfied members of the orchestras are. Furthermore, problems are addressed, followed by suggestions of possible solutions. This study uses survey and written resources, which cover the fundamentals and meaning of ensemble education, as well as case studies of youth orchestras in foreign countries. Based on the survey, background of conductors, educational environment, problems and solutions of various orchestras are investigated. Also, background of the members, and their understanding of the orchestras are addressed. Subjects are 34 conductors of 34 orchestras of the Seoul, Gyungi region and 272 orchestra members of 10 different orchestras, which allowed to visit directly, and the surveys are analyzed and compared. According to the survey, youth orchestras gave positive educational effects, and students were highly satisfied. But several problems came into question, and following are some suggestions to overcome the addressed problems. First of all, much more publicity is needed using the online resources, and active engagement between the orchestras and the public schools will be effective as well. Also, participation in orchestras should be an advantage in college entrance, like in some foreign countries. Secondly, members of the orchestra should receive more professional education and intensive training for higher achievement. Having different levels within the orchestras to give proper education according to the students’ status will be effective. Some practical plans such as free instrument rental programs should be devised to even out the unbalance of instrument formation within orchestras. Third, various administrative staff should be hired beside the conductor, to plan and execute what was mentioned above. Hiring volunteers would be one suggestion. Fourth, the government should support the orchestras by providing practice and performance venues. Also, periodical performances in a fixed venue, special concerts at schools and social events, free volunteer concerts will be essential to deliver the presence of the orchestras to the potential audiences. Not only the government should be involved, but conductors and administrators also need to change their perspectives. But above all, the leaders of the orchestras should remember that presenting the students with a plethora of positive experience and musical development is the most fundamental factor. With that in mind, youth orchestra members will achieve musical and personal development, and furthermore, it will be a great advantage for developing the whole music field within our nation. Thus, this study examines the status and problems of the youth orchestras throughout the nation, and possible solutions are suggested.;청소년기의 음악활동은 바람직한 정서를 함양시키고 청소년들의 삶의 질 향상을 추구하는 가장 직접적이고 효과적인 방법의 하나로 인식되고 있다. 관현악 합주 활동은 학생들에게 혼자 악기를 배울 때보다 다양한 예술적 체험의 기회를 갖게 하여 음악의 이해를 돕고, 음악을 즐기고 계속해서 음악활동에 참여 하도록 하는 효과적인 방법의 하나이다. 이렇게 악기를 배우는 학생들에게 관현악 활동을 경험시키도록 하기 위해 특별활동이나 방과 후 학교 활동 등을 통해 관현악반을 만들어 운영하는 학교들이 늘어나고 있고, 많은 지역자치단체와 민간단체들이 청소년 오케스트라를 결성하여 활동을 하고 있다. 청소년 오케스트라의 경우에 최근 몇 년 사이에 많은 단체가 창단되었는데, 이들은 정기적인 연주회와 매주 합주지도, 개인·그룹별 실기 지도 외에 다양한 프로그램으로 단원인 청소년들을 교육시키고 있다. 그러나 지금까지 청소년 오케스트라의 활동에 대한 연구가 거의 진행되지 않고 있어 현재의 정확한 현황과 실태파악을 하기 어렵고, 각 단체 간의 정보교환도 많지 않아 체계적이고 전문적인 운영이 이루어지지 않고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 현재 전국에서 활동하고 있는 청소년 오케스트라의 현황을 조사하여, 문제점을 파악하고 바람직한 개선방안을 찾아보고자 하였다. 본 연구는 설문지를 통한 조사연구의 방법을 사용하였고, 문헌연구를 통해 관현악 합주 지도의 의의와 원리를 고찰하고, 외국의 청소년 오케스트라 단체의 사례를 조사하여 시사점을 찾아보았다. 또한 이론적 배경을 바탕으로 한 설문지를 작성하여 지휘자의 배경과 청소년 오케스트라 운영 현황 및 환경, 합주지도 실태, 문제점 및 개선방안에 대해 알아보았고, 단원들의 배경과 청소년 오케스트라 활동 현황 및 인식을 알아보았다. 조사대상은 서울·경기 지역에서 활동 중인 34개 단체의 지휘자 34명과 직접 방문 조사를 허락한 10개 단체의 단원 272명이며 조사대상자별로 결과를 비교, 분석하였다. 조사 결과, 청소년 오케스트라 활동은 교육적인 효과가 뛰어나고 단원으로 활동하는 학생들의 만족도도 높은 것으로 나타났으나 몇 가지의 문제점을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 문제점들에 대해 몇 가지 개선방안을 제안해 본 것은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학교와 협력관계를 통해 많은 학생들이 오케스트라 활동에 참여할 수 있게 돕고, 인터넷을 활용해 적극적으로 홍보활동을 해야 한다. 또한 외국과 같이 대학입시에 오케스트라 활동 등을 적극적으로 반영하는 정책을 마련해야 한다. 둘째, 체계적이고 구체적인 단원 교육 프로그램으로 단원들을 보다 전문적으로 교육해 실력을 향상시켜야 한다. 오케스트라를 단계별로 구성하여 각 단계에 적절한 교육을 제공하는 것도 오케스트라 전체의 실력 향상에 도움이 될 것이다. 불균형적인 악기편성 문제 해결을 위해서는 학생들이 많이 접해보지 못한 악기에 대한 교육 및 악기 무상 대여 프로그램을 실시해야 한다. 셋째, 지휘자 외에도 다양한 행정인력 구성으로 체계적인 활동을 해야 한다. 적극적인 홍보활동을 통해 행정 업무를 돕는 자원봉사자를 모집하는 것도 하나의 방법이다. 넷째, 연습 장소와 연주 장소 확보를 위해 정부의 적극적인 지원이 필수적이다. 또한 기간을 두고 고정적으로 같은 장소에서 정기 연주회를 열어 지역사회에 청소년오케스트라의 활동을 각인시켜야 하며, 이외에도 지역의 학교나 봉사 단체를 찾아가는 기획연주회, 자선연주회 등 다양하고 새로운 연주활동을 해야 한다. 이와 같은 국가적 차원의 지원과 함께 청소년 오케스트라를 지도하는 지휘자들 과 행정가들의 목적의식에도 변화가 있어야 할 것이다. 어떠한 경우에도 가장 중요한 가치는 학생들의 발전과 흥미, 경험 등 진정한 의미의 교육에 있음을 잊지 않고 최선을 다해 적극적으로 청소년 오케스트라를 발전시켜 나간다면 청소년들의 인성교육과 음악적 발전은 물론이고, 우리나라의 전체 음악계의 발전에도 크게 기여할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.
