환상소설의 수용과 소설교육

Abstract

한국인의 삶이 배어 있는 국어를 창의적으로 사용하는 능력과 태도를 길러 정보 사회에서 효과적으로 국어 생활을 영위하고, 미래 지향적인 민족 의식과 건전한 국민 정서를 함양하며, 국어 발전과 국어 문화 창달에 이바지하려는 뜻을 세우기 위한 문학교육을 이루기 위해서는 현재를 살아가는 청소년들에게 살아 있는 교육내용 및 교육방법을 제시하는 것이 필요하다. 즉 기존 지식을 답습하거나 그 의미를 기계적으로 되풀이 하는 문학교육에서 벗어나 학습자들의 관심과 흥미의 영역 속에서 학습자가 능동적·주체적인 활동을 할 수 있는 교육이 이루어져야 하는 것이다. 문학교육은 작품에 대한 학습자들의 능동적이고 적극적인 참여를 통해 작품에 친근하게 접근하는 한편 그 동안 교육정전이라 불리며 그 가치를 인정받아 온 작품을 새로운 시각에서 바라봄으로써 작품에 대한 다양한 측면에서의 이해를 가능하게 하는 교육을 추구하고 있다. 그러나 문제는 교육현장에서 이루어지고 있는 문학교육은 이를 반영하고 있지 못하다는 것이다. 이에 본고에서는 학습자의 능동적·주체적 활동을 이끌고, 작품에 대한 학습자의 ‘수용’을 가능하게 하기 위한 새로운 교육 내용 및 교수·학습 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본고에서 제시하는 새로운 교육 내용의 대상은 그 동안 B급 문학으로 비하돼 교과서에서 배제되었지만 청소년인 학습자들에게 꾸준한 흥미와 관심의 대상이 되고 있는 ‘환상소설’인 것이다. 환상소설은 모든 소설의 출발점이라 할 수 있는 ‘허구’, 그 허구의 세계를 작품 속에서 직접적으로 구현한 문학 장르이기 때문에 게임이나 각 종 콘텐츠를 통해 끊임없이 가상(假相)의 요소를 접하고 있는 학습자들과 가장 가깝게 이어지고 있는 영역인 것이다. 즉 환상소설은 실상(實相)의 세계 속에서 학습자가 흔히 접하는 가상(假相)의 요소들, 이들의 관계를 문학작품에 적용해 학습자의 흥미와 관심을 이끌 수 있는 가장 좋은 영역인 것이다. 그러나 단순히 흥미와 관심의 대상으로서 환상소설을 교수·학습 하는 것이 아니라 이러한 학습자의 흥미와 관심을 기초로, 작품에 대한 학습자의 적극적인 활동을 유도하는 한편 환상소설이 지닌 교육적 가치를 교수하고자 한다. 이처럼 ‘환상’에 대한 학습자들의 흥미와 관심을 출발점으로 ‘환상’의 다성적인 의미를 이해시키는 한편 학습자들의 사고의 확장까지 이루고자 하는 것이다. 즉 작품에 대한 새로운 시각을 제시함으로써 작품에 대한 다양한 측면에서의 접근을 가능하게 할 뿐만 아니라 학습자들의 기존 지식과 새롭게 알게 된 지식의 혼융을 통해 사고의 확장까지 꾀하는 것이다. 이를 통해 작품이 단순히 지식적 측면에서만 가치를 지니는 것이 아니라 사고의 확장에까지 긍정적 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 깨닫도록 하고자 한다. 이러한 목표 하에 그 동안 반영론적 관점에서의 감상을 중심으로 작품의 가치를 설명하는 대표적인 작품, 「난장이가 쏘아올린 작은 공」을 주요 텍스트로 선정해 작품에 내재한 환상적 요소를 살펴보는 한편 작품이 지닌 다양한 의미를 생각해 보고자 한다. 본 연구를 통해 현재를 살아가는 학습자들과 함께 할 수 있는 문학교육을 이루는 것은 물론이고, 작품에 대한 이해를 뛰어넘어 사고의 확장까지 이룰 수 있는 문학교육으로 발전하기를 바라는 바이다.;It is necessary to present graphic contents and methods of education to the juveniles in the present days, in order to lead an effective life with the native language, Korean, in the information society by cultivating the capacity and attitude for using Korean, which permeates the life of Koreans, in a creative way, to promote future-oriented ethnic consciousness and healthy national sentiment, and to establish the education of literature for the sake of development of Korean and promotion of the culture of Korean. That is to say, an education is needed in which learners can perform voluntary and subjective activities within their fields of interests and tastes, breaking away from the education of literature which follows the existing knowledge or mechanically repeats its meaning. The education of literature helps learners to approach literary works in a familiar way through their active and positive participation. On the other hand, it seeks to enable learners to understand various aspects of the works, which have been appreciated as the canon of education, by viewing them from a new standpoint. However, the problem is that this ideal is not reflected on the education of literature in the actual scene of schooling. This thesis is to propose new contents and pedagogics with regard to teaching and learning that can induce learners' active and independent activities and can allow for learners' 'acceptance' of literary works. The new contents for education suggested in this thesis is 'fantasy novels' which have been depreciated as inferior and excluded from textbooks, but which have attracted continuous interests and attention from juvenile learners. Since fantasy novels form a genre in which 'fiction,' the starting point of all novels, is directly realized in the plot, they can get an easy access to learners who encounter virtuality constantly through games or various contents. Therefore, fantasy novels can apply the relationship between the actual world and virtual elements that learners come across in it to literary works, by virtue of which they are the best field to draw learners' interests and attention. However, it does not intend to teach and learn fantasy novels as a simple object of interests, but it rather tries to teach the educational value of fantasy novels as well as motivate learners' positive efforts, on the basis of learners' interests. Departing from learners' interests and attention toward 'fantasy,' the education not only helps to understand polyphonic meanings of 'fantasy,' but also tries to widen the sphere of learners' thoughts. By providing new points of view for the works, it facilitates access to the works from varied facets. Moreover, it aims to broaden the range of thoughts via blending and fusing of old and new knowledge. The main purpose is to help to realize that literary works are not just valuable simply in terms of knowledge, but they can also positively influence on the expansion of thoughts. To this end, one of the representative novels discussed and appreciated from the perspective of the theory of reflection (Wiederspiegelung), A Little Ball that a Dwarf Shot up is selected as a main text, which is examined in terms of elements of fantasy and diverse implications that the novel imparts. The research of this thesis hopes for the education of literature which can expand the scope of thinking beyond the understanding of literary works, as well as fit in with today's learners.
