소재혼합과 미니멀 표현에 의한 섬유제품디자인 연구

Abstract

기존의 틀을 깨는 독창적인 시도는 디자이너에게 있어서 그 운명을 결정하는 중요한 사안이다. 계절마다 새로운 아이디어 상품들이 쏟아져 나오는 시대에 제품의 차별화를 꾀하기란 쉬운 일이 아니며, 이러한 새로운 시도에 있어서 간과할 수 없는 부분은 최종적으로 제품화가 되었을 때 치열한 경쟁시장에서 소비자의 호응을 얻을 수 있느냐 하는 문제이다. 현대의 소비자들은 더 이상 순수한 창조성만이 가치가 있다고 생각하지 않는다. 글로벌 문화의 흐름 속에서 세상의 모든 것들은 서로 섞이고 통합되어 그 경계가 모호해짐에 따라 ‘혼합’이라는 용어는 현대 문화에 있어 새로운 가능성으로 여겨지고 있다. 이는 무에서 유를 창조하는 것이 아니라 혼합으로 인한 새로움의 진화라는 측면에서 이해될 수 있다. 다시 말해 디자인을 이루는 요소들이 완전히 새로운 요소들로 창조되는 것이 아니라 기존 요소들의 기능적, 형태적 변이를 통해 새로운 의미 구성체로 표현된다는 것이다. 소재의 혼합에 의한 디자인은 언제나 새로운 변환과 변동의 잠재력이 내재되어 있다. 따라서 평범한 소재일지라도 그들을 어떻게 조합하느냐에 따라 새로운 디자인이 만들어질 수 있으며 이러한 특징은 차별화와 고부가가치를 창출하기 위한 섬유제품의 중요한 조형요소라 할 수 있다. 그러나 섬유제품디자인에 있어 소재를 너무 부각시키다보면 자칫 전체적인 디자인이 과해 보일 수가 있다. 제품화를 고려했을 때 장식이 없고 디자인이 단순할수록 소재가 부각되며, 이에 따라 섬유패션분야에서는 미니멀한 표현에 의한 디자인이 오랜 기간에 걸쳐 선보이고 있다. 본 연구자는 지나치게 장식적인 형태보다는 규칙적이고 단순하면서도 시각적으로 명쾌한 질서가 있는 합리적이고 이지적인 느낌을 주는 형태를 표현하고자 한다. 더불어 서로 다른 성질을 지닌 소재를 혼용(mix & match)하여, 단일소재가 가지는 단점을 보완하고 기능성을 증대시킨 실용적 의류제작을 통해 기존의 소재개발에만 그치지 않고 이를 활용한 제품개발에 초점을 맞춘다. 이를 위한 본 연구의 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현대 섬유패션분야에서의 소재경향에 대하여 살펴보고, 디자이너 컬렉션에서 나타나는 소재 혼합의 사례조사와 소재 혼합에 의한 디자인의 특성을 분석한다. 둘째, 미니멀리즘의 이론적 개념과 그 특성에 대하여 고찰하고, 섬유패션 분야에서 미니멀리즘의 활용사례에 대하여 알아본다. 셋째, 트렌드 조사와 이를 연구한 내용을 바탕으로 한 소재개발 및 새로운 형태의 제품을 기획한다. 넷째, 상업화된 소재와 섬유변형을 이용한 소재를 혼합한 유니크한 형태의 작품을 제작한다. 이러한 연구 과정을 통하여 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 소재혼합은 단일소재 사용으로 인한 지루함을 없애고 이질적 소재의 혼용으로 시각적, 촉각적으로 다양하고 독특한 느낌을 주었으며, 제품의 차별화에 있어 더욱 효과적이었다. 둘째, 기하도형을 활용한 미니멀한 형태 표현은 형태의 단순화를 통해 소재를 더욱 부각시켜 주었으며, 샘플작업으로 개발된 소재와 조형적 형태의 조합은 앞으로 시도해 볼 과제로 남았다. 셋째, 기계에 의해 제작된 상업소재와 감성표현에 의해 제작된 변형소재의 상반된 느낌의 소재혼합, 동시에 단순한 형태 표현은 제품의 기능성과 감성을 이끌어내는 효율적인 조합임을 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 소재 혼합을 통한 유니크한 형태의 작품 14점을 제작하여 소재개발 및 섬유제품화의 방향을 제시하였다.;For designers, an original attempt that break the formality is so important that their destinies are decided by it. In this world, with many different products in every season, it is difficult to seek the product differentiation. For this new attempt, we can not pass over the reaction about the final product from customers in a market of keen competition. Today's customers don't place a great deal of weight on pure creativity any more. In a global culture, a boundary of everything in this world is vague by mixing and unifying. The term of 'mix' is regarded as a new possibility for a contemporary culture. This is not to create something out of nothing, but to evolve through the mix. In other words, it is not created by totally new elements, but expressed by new composition through functional and structural change of existing elements. A potential energy of new diversion and fluctuation is always inherent in design by a mix of materials. So, new design can be made by how to mix the materials even if the materials are very ordinary. This is the most important point for fabric products to bring a higher value-added and a differentiation. When we stress the materials too much for fabric product design, the design may look excessive. If the design is simple without any decoration, the material can be emphasized. This is the reason that design of minimal expression has been shown for a long time in a field of fabric/fashion. I plan to express the systematic, simple and regular form which gives a reasonable and intellectual feeling rather than a decorative form. I plan to not only develop materials but also manufacture products through practical production of clothes with mix & match of different materials for remedying its defects and enhancing the functionality. The following are the contents of this research. First, study a trend of materials in a field of comtemporary fabric/fashion, and analyze a mix of materials through examples of designers' collections and properties of these designs. Second, study the theoretical concept and property of minimalism and research examples of inflectional paradigms of minimalism in a field of fabric/fashion. Third, make a plan for development of materials and new products based on the research of trend and the contents of this research. Fourth, manufacture the product of minimal form which is mixed with materials commercialized and metamorphosed. Following are the results of the researches done. First, for a mix of materials, heterogeneous materials eliminate a monotone from a use of singular material and tactually give diversity and fun. This was very effective for product differentiation. Second, an expression of minimal form using geometric figures brings materials into relief. It must be made a mixture of materials developed by sample work and plastic form. Third, mixture of materials commercialized and metamorphosed which are very antithetic and simple satisfies the functionality and efficiency of product. Fourth, manufacturing 14 products of unique form through a mix of materials, I have indicated the direction of developing materials and manufacturing fabric products.
