조선초기 정치구조의 사상적 연구

Abstract

조선초기에 유학이 정치과 교육의 근본개념으로 채택되면서 한국사회에는 커다란 변화가 일어나게 된다. 즉 새로 도입된 유학이 정치과 관련을 맺게 되면서 삼국이래 정치과 결합되어 국가전반에 걸쳐 영향을 입혀온 불교는 정치에서 완전히 불리되는 현상이 우선 눈에 띄게 되는 것이다. 불교는 여말선초까지도 그 세속적인 세력이 비대하여 정치, 경제적인 면에 많은 폐단을 낳고 있었기 때문에 그만큼 이 시기에 척불운동도 열렬하였던 것이라 생각한다. 그러나 태종대에 이르러 왕권을 강화하고 불교를 배척하며 유학에 바탕둔 중앙집권적 지배체제가 형성됨에 따라 순수한 종료로써의 불교에 대해서는 완화책을 썼던 것이라 생각한다. 더욱이 유교국가로써 본궤도에 오르게 되는 세종대에는 부드러운 불교보호정책으로 나타나며, 세조대에는 오히려 이를 육성하고 발전시키는 경향을 띄게 된다. 태종대의 강력해진 주권의 확립이 기초가 되어 세종대에는 유교이상국가의 실현이 가능해졌다. 세종의 빼어난 정치적 역량과 집현전을 중심으로 한 유학자들의 지혜가 모두어져 유학에 근거를 둔 권력구조 위에 민족문화를 꽃피게 된 것이라 생각한다. 이와같은 민족의 예지는 세조대에 편찬되는 경국대전에서도 계속 나타나게 되는 것이다. 세조는 민족의 법전을 마련하기 위해 힘을 기울였다. 고려시대에는 대명율에 의존했던 모방성을 극복하고 한국민족의 현실생활에 알맞도록 통치규범을 고정시켰던 것이니 여기에서 우리는 유학을 정치이념으로 채택하면서도 조선초기 역대왕들이 그것으로 만족하지 않고 그 위에 한국민조그이 창의성과 독자성을 발휘한 일면을 엿볼 수 있을 것 같다. 유학이 처음으로 조선사회에 수용될 때는 선진국가인 중국문화에 대한 흠모의 태도에서 였다. 당시 중국은 고도로 발달한 불교문화를 보유하고 있었으므로 동양사회에서는 한결같이 주대의 이상국가를 동경했으며 중국의 문화와 제도를 본받으려하였다. 조선이 유교를 이상으로 삼게 된 것도 이와 동일한 이유였으리라 생각한다. 그러나 어디까지 자주적인 민족의식을 동반하고 있었다는 중요한 사실을 빠트릴 수는 없을 것이다.; It is true that the Korean Confucianists who played the main role in the foundation of Yi Dynasty adopted the anti-Buddhism as a national policy. It seems that their real intention was, however, far from stamping out the Buddhism itself. They only intended to eradicate the Buddhism as a political power which had been so strongly stuck with the nation's philosophy throughout Koryo Dynasty. But they extended a new political principle backed up with Confucianism replacing the old Kingdom's royal image. Thus Buddhism in Yi Dynasty had been in existence putting an new face on Buddhism of the former Kingdom and had kept aloof from politics. Confucianism in Yi Dynasty has some chronological steps in the course of being adopted as a basic litical and educational ideology. In the beginning of the Dynasty, Confucianism came into being as a political ideology with the help of Chung Do-jun, a staff member of political affairs to Tai-jo, Yi Song-gye, the first king of the Dynasty, but it was no more than an imitation of Chinese Confucianism. In the age of Se-Jong the Great, when the Dynasty came to settle down, a group of Confucian scholars of Chiphyon-jon, a Royal Academy, studied the Chinese ancient regime and classical literature from a Korean nation's point of view. It is quite noteworthy that from the beginning the national consciousness backed up these studies, which were really the active work planning to build up a Confucian Utopia in the Kindom. We should highly appreciate the originality of nationalism which they showed in the course of putting Confucianism into a political ideology of the Dynasty, not like the blind imitation of Chinese system in Koryo Dynasty. The detailed result of these consists of the system of administrative power shown in the Kyeong-Guk-Dai-Jeon, a code of laws. Thus Confucianism had settled down in the system of administrative power of the Dynasty and futhermore it became indigenous to a mode of life in every leading field of society. Confucianism-tinctured nationalism came into being and it had grown vigorously through Yi Dynasty.
