타케미츠 토루(武滿 徹:Takemitsu Toru)의 영화음악에 나타난 전통음악 수용의 작곡기법 연구

Abstract

서양음악의 도입 이후 각국의 음악문화는 커다란 변화를 가져 왔다. 이 과정에서 서구 중심적인 사고와 그에 따른 전통음악에 대한 경시는 20세기 전반 동아시아 음악문화의 공통된 현상이었다. 새로운 창작에서 현대성을 획득하는 문제가 각국의 문화적 토양으로서의 전통에서 가능하다는 인식은 서양음악의 수용이 어느 정도 자리를 잡은 20세기 후반에 이르러서야 비로소 가능하게 되었다. 또한 멀티미디어의 발달로 영화는 음악의 영역과 기능 역시 과거에 비해 매우 넓고 다양해졌기 때문에 영화음악의 창조적 과제가 요구되고 있다. 본 논문은 일본의 작곡가<타케미츠 토루>가 영화음악 작곡한 구로사와 아키라 감독의 영화『란』의 음악을 분석하여 일본 전통음악과 서양악기를 사용하여 영상에 함께 쓰였는지 영상과 음악의 매치와 사용, 그리고 영화의 극의 진행과 맞물려 어떻게 등장하고 있는지에 대해서 살펴보고자 한다. 본 연구는 이에 따라 <타케미츠 토루>의 음악 스타일을 알아보기 위해 그의 작품을 직접 채보하여 영상과 음악과의 상관관계를 살펴보고 음악적 구성 요소의 특징을 찾아보았다. 먼저 그의 생애를 살펴보고, 그의 현대음악 작품에 걸쳐 드러난 특징과 영화음악 작품세계를 통한 음악적 배경과 독특한 스타일의 특징을 살펴보았다. 구로사와 아키라 감독의 영화 『란』은 1985년 영화이며 서양의 대표적인 문학, 셰익스피어 작품 중, 『리어왕』을 동양적으로 각색한 것으로 색채적인 영상과 일본 전통음악을 함께 사용하여 일본 전통음악과 서구의 현대음악이 어떻게 융화되고 있는지를 알아보도록 하겠다. 본 연구를 통해서 <타케미츠 토루>의 음악은 단순히 배경음악에 그치는 것이 아니라 심리적 기능으로 그가 나타내려고 하는 음악의 기능으로 이 연구의 전 과정을 통해 <타케미츠 토루>의 음악적 경향들과 함께 그의 내면의 작품 세계관까지도 들여다보기로 한다.;Since introduction of the Western music, many nations' music culture underwent great changes. In this process, West-centered thoughts and dismissal of the traditional music were the common phenomena in the East Asia in the first half of the 20th century. The perception that acquisition of modernity in new creations would be feasible based on the tradition as a cultural soil emerged belatedly in the second half of the 20th century when the Western music had come to be much accommodated. On the other hand, owing to development of the multi-media, domain and functions of music have been wider and more diverse than in the past, requiring a creative challenge for film music. The purpose of this study was to analyze Japanese composer Takemitsu Toru's film music, focusing on director Kurosawa Akira's film "Ran" for which he had composed music and thereupon, examine how Japanese traditional music was mixed with the Western music and how music was harmonized with video images and thereby, review how music proceeded according to development of the film scenes. In order to examine Takemitsu Toru's music styles, the researcher sampled his music pieces to analyze correlation between video images and music and review the characteristics of his musical elements. Then, the researcher reviewed his life and examined the characteristics shown in his contemporary music works, his musical background and unique styles. Kurosawa Akira's film "Ran" was produced in 1985, dramatizing in an Oriental way Shakespeare's "King Lear" representing the Western literature. The researcher examined how the colorful video images were mixed with the Japanese traditional music to harmonize the Japanese traditional music with the Western contemporary music. Besides, the researcher examined not only Takemitsu Toru's background music for the film but also his inside world of art represented as the musical tendencies or the psychological functions he wanted to show.
