Road Map to Sri Lankan Female Labor Force

Abstract

경제활동에서의 여성의 참여는 세계적으로 증가추세에 있으며 이것은 가정의 빈곤을 줄이는데 효과적인 방편으로 여겨져 왔다. 1960년대에서 1990년대 기간 동안 스리랑카 여성 노동력의 참여는 점차적으로 증가해왔으나 한 지점에서 정체되었다. 이 연구는 스리랑카에서의 현재 여성 노동력의 참여율이 인접한 다른 남아시아 국가와 비교했을 때 훨씬 뒤쳐져 있다는 것을 보여주었다. 이 논문은 현재 스리랑카 노동시장에서의 여성의 참여를 보여주고 전체 경제가 남자에 의해서 지배당하고 있다는 것을 보여준다. 교육 시스템이 생산적인 젊은 세대를 준비하기 위한 메커니즘이기 때문에 이 연구는 교육에서의 참여에 초점을 맞추었다. 교육에서의 남녀 참여에 관한 분석은 학교 교육이 헌법의 힘을 통해서 학교 네트워크 안에서 성비의 균형을 유지시키고 있다는 것을 보여준다. 그러나 동일한 흐름은 현재 정부의 직업과 기술 훈련부의 직업교육 제도에서 보여지지 않고 있다. 이 연구는 여성 직업 훈련 수용력이 스리랑카에서의 여성 노동력을 확장 시키기 위해 증가되어야 한다는 것을 제시한다. 나아가서, 이 연구는 현 교육 제도의 몇 가지 단점을 발견했으며, 이 점들은 스리랑카 노동력에서 성비의 균형을 맞추고 현재 직업 훈련 시스템을 규제하는데 도움을 줄 수 있는 공동체를 위한 지침서로 사용 되어 질 수 있다.;Women participation in economic activities is rising in the global arena and this has been identified as an effective tool to reduce household poverty. During the time period of 1960 to 1990, Sri Lankan female labor force participation had increased gradually but now it is more or less stagnated around one point. This study found that the current female labor force participation in Sri Lanka stands far behind compared to several South Asian neighbours. This thesis describes present female participation in Sri Lankan labor market and it reveals that whole economy is largely dominated by males. Since, education system is the mechanism to prepare productive younger generation, this study focused on participation in education. The gender analysis of participation in education reveals that the school education is strictly holding gender balance in the school network by using the constitutional power. However, the same trend is not seen in the current government vocational education system. This study explains that female vocational training capacity has to be increased to enlarge the female labor force participation in Sri Lanka. Further, this study discovered short comings of present education system and its findings could be used as a guide for donor community to assist restructuring the current vocational training system in Sri Lanka in order to achieve gender equality in labor force.
