WOMEN SEARCHING FOR WHOLENESS IN THE ZOMI CONTEXT IN MYANMAR

Abstract

나는 여성이 하나님에 의해 창조되었고, 따라서 여성도 남성과 똑같이 하나님의 위대한 도구가 될 수 있는 하나님의 형상을 지녔다고 말하는 신학자들의 견해에 동의한다. 이제 그런 생각은 일반적인 생각이 되었고, 신학을 연구하는 사람들에 의해 받아들여지고 있으며, 더 이상 새로운 사상은 아니다. 하지만 이것은 미얀마의 조미(Zomi) 여성들에게는 해당되지 않는다. 대부분의 조미 여성들은 그렇게 느끼지 않는다. 왜냐하면 한번도 그렇게 배운 적이 없기 때문이다. 그들의 목사들이 한번도 강단에서 이것에 관해 설교하지 않았기 때문이다. 그리고 교회가 이 평범한 진리를 가르친 적이 없기 때문이다. 나는 이 논문에서 조미 남성과 여성이 동등한 하나님의 형상으로 지음 받았으며, 따라서 조미 여성들도 남성과 똑같이 완전한 인간으로 대우받아야 한다고 주장할 것이다. 그 이유는 그들이 하나님의 형상의 담지자들이기 때문이다 (창세기 1:28). 여성들도 사회의 다른 사람들과 마찬가지로 생존과 안전과 소유와 존중과 성취를 누릴 권리가 있다. 나는 조미 여성들의 고통의 한 가운데에서 여성들에게 인권이 있고 또 자신을 위해 일어설 수 있는 평등한 권리가 있음을 주장하려 한다. 조미 여성들은 이미 존엄과 자기 존중, 자신의 개인적 필요를 고려할 권리, 자아 실현의 권리와 그들의 삶에서 오는 도전들을 받아들일 권리를 가지고 있다. 그들에게는 결정을 내릴 수 있는 권리가 있고, 공동체 안에서 자신에게 어울리는 삶의 방식을 택할 권리가 있으며, 또 그들의 행위와 가치와 삶의 조건을 바꿀 권리가 있다. 나는 모든 인간이 갈보리의 십자가 앞에 평등하다고 믿는다. 왜냐하면 죄인을 위해 흘리신 그 분의 피는 ‘모든’ 인간에게 유효한 것이기 때문이다. 하나님에 의해 보여진 사랑은 또한 모든 인간에게 평등하다. 그런데 왜 교회와 남성의 지배적 권력은 가부장제라고 하는 사회적 악을 행하는가? 왜 여성은 언제나 주변부에 있어야 하는가? 정말 여성은 남성보다 덜 지적인 존재인가? 그들은 정말 남성과 같은 지도력을 발휘할 수 없는가? 혹은 여성은 그들의 육체적 모습 때문에 지도자가 될 자격이 없다는 것인가? 이 모든 질문들이 이 논문에서 답변 되어질 것이다.;I believe and agree with the theologians who say that women are created by God and thus they bear the image of God to be God’s great instruments like men. It becomes a common idea and is welcomed by the people who have studied in this field and it is not a new idea for them. But it is not true to Zomi women. Most of Zomi women never have this feeling, for they have never learned, for the pastors have never preached about this in the pulpit, and for the church have also never taught this truth. Therefore I want to argue in this paper that Zomi men and women are equal image of God, thus Zomi women should be treated as fully human as men, since they are the bearers of the image of God (Gen.1:28). Women too have the right to survival, security, belonging, esteem and fulfillment like any other human beings in society. I affirm in the midst of the pain of Zomi women that women have equal right to human rights and to standing up for them. They hold already the right to dignity and self-respect, the right to consider their own personal needs, the right to self-fulfillment and to accept the challenges of their day. They have a right to determine and from their own lifestyle within community and to change their behavior, values and life situation. I believe that all human beings are equal before the Cross of Calvary, for the blood which shed for the sinners is available for all human being. The love that shown by God is also equal to all humanity. Then why is the social evil practiced by the Church and the male dominated power? What is the reason behind that the women are always in the margin? Are they really less intelligent than men? Can’t they really exercise leadership role in the community? Or are they really not worthy to be leaders because of their physical appearance? All these questions will be answered in this paper.
