학생과 학부모가 기대하는 국민학교 교사상

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 학생과 학부모가 기대하는 국민학교 교사상을 규명하는데 있다. 이러한 목적을 위하여 교사의 역할과 바람직한 교사상을 선행 연구를 중심으로 분석하고, 국민학교 교사의 신상면, 학습지도면, 생활지도면, 인간관계면에 대한 학생과 학부모의 기대 수준을 질문지법으로 조사하였다. 연구 대상은 서울시내 국민학교 (3개교)의 학생 353명과 학부모 302명으로 하였다. 분석결과 학생과 학부모가 기대하는 국민학교 교사상의 특징은 다음과 같이 나타났다. 1. 교사의 신상측면에서 볼 때 학생과 학부모는 모두 교사의 용모가 검소하고 수수한 교사, 성격은 친절하고 이해심이 많은 교사를 원했다. 그러나 학부모는 학생과는 달리 엄격한 교사도 원하는 것으로 나타났다. 2. 교사의 학습지도측면에서 볼 때 학생과 학부모가 모두 교과지도 내용은 실생활과의 관련을 통하여 지도하는 교사, 교과지도 방법은 설명을 많이하고 학생활동은 조금 시키는 교사, 가정학습 부과 빈도에서는 가정학습을 매일 내 주는 교사, 학업 성적에 대한 교사의 반응에서는 성적보다는 인간성에 관심을 갖는 교사를 원했다. 그러나 학생은 학부모와는 달리 시험문제에 중점을 두어 교과지도를 하는 교사도 원하는 것으로 나타났다. 3. 교사의 생활지도측면에서 볼 때 학생과 학부모가 모두 생활지도의 정도에서는 세심하게 생활지도 하는 교사, 학생 잘못에 대한 교사의 처리에서는 잘못 했을 때 벌이나 꾸지람 대신 뉘우치도록 설득하는 교사, 인성지도에서는 수업 시간을 통해 올바른 사람이 되도록 지도하는 교사, 취미지도에 대해서는 취미 생활에 관심을 갖고 지도하는 교사를 원했다. 그리고 학부모는 학생과는 달리 훌륭한 인간의 본을 보여 주는 교사도 원하는 것으로 나타났다. 4. 교사의 인간관계측면에서 볼 때 교사와 학생과의 관계에서는 학생은 친절한 교사, 어버이처럼 인자한 교사, 친구처럼 다정한 교사를 원하는 반면 학부모는 누구에게나 관심있게 대해 주는 교사, 어버이처럼 인자한 교사, 학생의 선배로서 엄격하게 이끌어 주는 교사를 원했다. 그리고 교사와 학부모와의 관계에서는 서로 친하게 지내면서 학생에 대하여 상의하는 것을 학생과 학부모가 모두 원하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 교사는 단순히 지식을 전달하는 것이 아니라 학생의 성장·발달에 기여 할 수 있도록 도와주는 자이다. 그러기 위하여 계속 연구하는 교사, 학생에게 감화를 줄 수 있는 도덕적인 교사, 대인관계를 잘 맺는 교사, 학생에 대하여 많은 지식과 이해를 갖고 있는 교사, 자기 성장을 위해 끊임없이 노력할 수 있는 바람직한 교사가 되어야 할 것이다.;The purpose of this study was to investigate students' and parents' expectation of teacher's qualities of elementary school. In order to accomplish this purpose, the role and desirable image of teachers were identified through the previous study and the teacher's image, which students and parents expect, was analyzed in terms of teacher's personal condition, instruction, counselling, and human relations. The sample size of the study was 353 students, and 302 parents in three elementary schools in Seoul area. As a result of this study, the characteristics of teacher's qualities expected from student and parent are as follows: 1. In regard to the teacher's personal ondition, students and parents expect teachers to be frugal and plain in their countenance, and to be kind-hearted and generous in their personality, It was, also, found that parents are in favor of stern teachers. 2. Concerning the instruction, it was found that students and parents prefer the teachers, 1) teaching subjects in connection with the real life, 2) usually employing the explanatory teaching method rather than encouraging student's active participation, 3) assigning the students daily homework, 4) more emphasising on the student humanities rather than on the student's academic achievement. 3. Concerning the teacher's counselling, students and parents stress more, as the desirable teacher's behavior, the deep affection than the punishment such as lashing and caning. They also preferred the teachers who guide students to be a whole person and who can guide student's leisure activities. 4. Concerning teacher's human relations with students, student expect the teachers to be kind, benevolent and friendly. Meanwhile, parents prefer teacher's benevolence and strictness. Concerning with teacher's relationship with parents, students and parents want the intimate relationship with teachers. Presently, the teacher, simply, is not a knowledge deliver, but a helper, who help student grow up into a whole person. In order to help the students to grow up into a whole person, every teacher should try to be a jack-of-all-trades and master of all; in fields of instruction, counselling, human relations and others.
