Communicative ability증진을 위한 개발교수안 연구

Abstract

근래의 영어교육은 듣기, 말하기 능력을 중시하여 종래의 문법, 독해 위주의 교습을 지양하고 듣고 보고 말하는 습관을 지향하는 쪽으로 주력하고 있다. 특히 영어회화의 조기교육을 포함하여 우수한 영어 교사의 양성과 집중적인 현지 훈련, 각종 시청각 교재 및 어학실습실의 개발, 보급등에 대해 많은 관심을 가지게 되었음은 퍽 고무적인 일이라 하겠다. 본 연구는 이러한 추세에서 학생들에게 어떠한 강화의 과정이 주어져 학습에 효과를 거두게 하는가 함에 있다. 다양하고 지속적인 사회 변동, 국제화의 힘찬 도약등의 이유로 일상 실용 영어가 그 어느때보다도 강조되고 있는 요즘 현행의 중등 영어 교육 과정에서 강화의 필요에 의해 개발되어야 할 요소를 찾아 학습 활동에 적용함으로서 학생들에게 영어 학습에 대한 종합적 동기를 부여하고자 함에 있다. 본 논문에서 강조한 것은 적절한 교수법의 적용 및 활용, 목표어 학습에 대한 동기 부여등으로 학습 결과의 성취도에 대한 만족감을 부여하고 더 나아가서는 적절한 활용 환경을 마련하는 것이다. 위와같은 연구결과를 통해 다음과 같은 점을 발견하였다. 1. 현행 교재 내용을 바탕으로 한 끊임없는 적용 가능한 교수안의 개발을 위한 교사의 연구가 절실히 요구된다. 2. 다소 어학에 소질을 보이는 학생들의 어학 능력 개발을 목적으로 한 특별 활동의 활성화가 필요하며 이의 실제는 매우 효과적이다. 3. 문법 위주의 틀에 박힌 Oral Practice 보다는 실제 대화할 수 있는 환경을 계속 부여하여 활용의 기회 및 성취 의욕도를 높여 주어야 한다. 4. 등기·말하기 훈련에 대한 수업시간 할당 증가의 필요성을 더욱 느꼈다.;Korean schools have long been concerned about the improvement of the teaching of English. Throughout its history they have tried to introduce new ideas into this field. However the new ideas of language teaching have not been utilized in the scondary schools acquisition of reading skills and translation is the sole emphasis because of the large class size and that students must take the written examinations for university admission. As a result. after many years of English learning, student's abilities are limited to reading and translation. At present, even though most teachers as well as ministery of Education realize the need of acquiring listening and speaking skills, the problems still remained : (1) The class size is too large. (2) The teaching materials are not available for teaching of spoken English. (3) The teachers are not well qualified or trained for the teaching of oral English. These are the main reason why the researcher became interested to investigate the improvement to teaching English in the middle and high schools. During the 1982 school year, English conversation has been taught to an experimental class of 17 students during their extra-curricular period. The teaching materials were prepared based on the textbook currently in use. The materials were centered on the following goals: (1) Comprehension: The aim is to enhance student's ability to understand the contents through listening. (2) Pronunciation drill: This aims to improve student's ability to pronounce English words correctly. (3) Dialogue: The aim is to improve student's ability in English conversation through constant practice. (4) Application: This is to improve student's ability in using English freely according to different situations. At the conclusion of the experimental classes student's achievement in oral English was analyzed and compared with those of regular English class. Questionaries were given to the experimental class students at the end of the semester. The questionaries surveyed the students' achievement and attitudes about the experimental programs. Major recommendations of the study are as follows: (1) The teaching material should be reorganized and prepared by the teachers based upon the text book. (2) The hours of extra-curricular activity can be used effectively to conduct small group conversation classes. (3) It is desirable to devote more attention to those students who have better English ability by assigning them additional exercises. (4) Teachers should try to innovate different methods such as audio visual aids, songs, role playing dramatization and so on.
