Abstract

Kurt Jooss는 20C 독일이 낳은 表現主義 舞踊家이며, 훌륭한 按舞家였다. 그는 18才부터 Stuttgart 음악학교에서 音樂을 공부했고 1年후 Dramatic School로 자리를 옮겨 연극을 공부함으로써 그의 예술의 바탕이 될 수 있는 폭 넓은 知識을 쌓았으며, 바로 이 무렵 現代表現舞踊 理論의 기초를 이룩한 Rudolf Von Laban을 알게 되었다. 그후, 3年동안 Laban의 助敎와 主要 무용수로서 활동하면서, 그의 이론에 크게 영향을 입었다. Laban의 여러 제자중 에서도 Mary Wigman은 原始감정을 강조한 강한 표현주의적 스타일로 강한 개성과 진지한 안출력(按出力)을 가진 무용수로서 성공했으며, Laban의 이론을 가장 올바르게 實現했던 Kurt Jooss는 일찍이 23才의 젊은 나이에 Ballet敎師가 되었으며, 그후 Essen Opera House에서 Ballet Master가 되었다. 그곳에서, 그는 그의 主要한 Ballet 作品들의 台本을 썼다. 그의 작품들에서 볼 수 있는 예술의 주요흐름은, 어떤 因習的인 Mime도 아니고, 지나친 感想主義的인 상황을 만들지도 않으며, 인간의 內面世界에 대한 표현주의 무용의 깊이를 더해 가는 것이었다. 그의 독특한 按舞形式은 劇的이며, 당대의 社會的인 問題를 예리한 통찰력을 가지고 비판되는 주제성이 짙게 깔려있음을 알 수 있다. 본 논문에서는, 1930년대에 독일은 물론, 범세계적 Ballet 애호가들로부터 세계에서 가장 강력한 Ballet로 인정받았던 그의 名作 "The Green Table"을 中心으로 연구하며, 분석함으로써 그의 작품세계를 보다 잘 이해하고 Modern Ballet에 미친 표현주의 무용의 영향에 관한 理解에 重点을 두었다. 그래서 이를 규명하기 위해서는 1. 독일의 표현주의 무용의 전모와 몇몇 創始者들의 활동에 관해서 연구할 必要를 느끼며, 2. "The Green Table"의 作品分析과 3. Kurt Jooss의 생애와 業績 等을 연구해 가는 것이 바람직하다고 생각되며, 이와 더불어, 독일의 무용을 알기 위해서는 20C 初, 유럽국가의 무용을 全般的으로 記述함이 必要하다고 思料된다. 이렇게 연구한 結果로서는, 1. Jooss는 독일 표현주의 무용의 開拓者가 되었을 뿐 아니라, Modern Dance의 이론을 실천하고, 대부분의 현대무용주의자들이 내세운 Classic Ballet에 대한 의도적 부정과는 달리 傳統的인 Classic Ballet를 排除하지 않는 무용形式을 이룩한 革新的인 안무가였다. 2. 또한 그의 걸작품 "The Green Table"은 극적이며 사회적이고 諷刺的인 안무에서 時代의 문제성과 인간내면세계의 갈등을 완전히 새로운 藝術樣式의 肉體를 빌어 표현하는 무용형식에 기초를 두고 있다는 것을 보여주고 있으며, 그런 의미에서 Kurt Jooss가 금세기 최대의 특출난 무용가로 확신케 하는 산 증거로 볼 수 있다.;Kurt Jooss was an expressionistic dancer and a great choreographer whom German had ever had in the 20th century. He started to learn music from the age of 18 at the music school in stuttgart and, a year later, acquired much knowledge through studying drama at the Dramatic School, where he got to know Rudolf Von Laban who established the base of the theory of modern expressionistic dance. He was influenced by the theory of R. V. Laban for whom he acted as an assistant and a major dance. Among Laban's disciples, Mary Wigman succeded as a dancer of particulqr personality and serious choreographic power with a strong expressionistic style which emphasized primitive feelings. On the other hand, Kurt Jooss realized Laban's theory, became a ballet master only at the age of 23 and then one at the Essen Opera House, where he wrote scenarios for his major ballet works. His works were not the kinds of traditional mimes, didn't create far too sentimental situations, and gave depth the expressionistic dance. His Characteristics in Choreography are that it is dramatic and deals with social problems as subjects. In this thesis, I research and analyze his masterpiece, "The Green Table" which had reigned as the strongest ballet work and put an emphasis on the under standing of his artistic world and the expressionistic dance influencing modern ballet. To accomplish these ends, I consider it desirable to approach from 1. Expressionistic dance and creators in Germany 2. Analysis of "The Green Table" 3. Kurt Jooss's life and achievement At the same time, it's necessary, I think, to describe the dances of European countries in the 20th century generally. In conclusion, he was an innovative choreographer, who not only bscamea frontierman, but also practised the theory of modern ballet and didn't rule out the traditional classical ballet. He could realize that social and satiristic choreography depended upon a dance form expressing problems of the times through a body of completely new artistic style.
